“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone. Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on. The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eHSyk4SGtuY.html is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella. Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SyILdRAOS88.html
Yess, Lara is amazing!!! Other great performances are her version of Caruso and also Je T'aime (the Paris 2001 version is definitely the best one to watch)
After watching this performance, there is no doubt why Dimash considered her to be an idol to look up to and learn from.❤️ She is stunningly beautiful and may be the best female vocalist in the world. 🦋 As you noticed, part of this song was A Cappello and her timing as she came back into the music was perfect. So many skills and such passion and excellent delivery.🌹🫶🌹 🥰🥰Hugs from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦

She is the real beast live. Her performances from the same concert as this song are insane! A later performance like some of the concerts she did in Moscow with Igor Krutoy on the piano (Mademoiselle Hyde/ Lyubov pokhozhaya na son) are a very good way to appreciate Lara at a more mature age. Italian, French, English, Spanish or Russian, Lara "The Ring" will make you feel every word, no translation necessary!
Such a beautiful song and not many are able to sing it. However, there is another version I listen to every other day and I am sure you will love it just as much. Group is Forestella.. a South Korean crossover quartet. Please react to that version .. they are unparalled !!!
Lara's songs are rich and varied 15 records over 140 songs don't be content with her early live performances from the 2000s with these vocal performances Lara is much more than that some spectacular tracks "I an a Wa"ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mKLdLox918A.html "l'oubli"ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3ob-a4tPNcg.html "dance"ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nHYi7rYD1yk.html "par amour"ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rjrTd8VeP64.html "tango"ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9p1UrKzYti0.html "papillon"ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dzWit_mevK0.html and many more to discover Lara Fabian is a true artist, author, composer and performer. a sunny woman who catches you like a moth in the light. lara the best of humanity....
I listened to this performance of Lara for this song probably hundreds of times on my own, then a few thousands more when watching reactions on YT for it. Not once was I able to watch the whole thing through without crying like a baby at the end of it. The original song itself is hauntingly stunning, the lyrics hit you like an arrow straight through the heart, but Lara's voice just takes you places. Dark, hurtful places in this one specifically. great video Nick, I hope you revisit Lara soon ! LOVE YOUR CHANNELS!!!! some of her popular live performances that I adore are Adagio (in english , from this same concert, which I think you might have already reacted to, but if not: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jKtNuLG5jAo.html ), Caruso (in Italian dialect, here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BP2KnLemT78.html ), Quedate (Spanish, here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cX0CPdBV75E.html ), Je T'aime (French, EMOTIONAL!!!!!! here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qO3b-MyyTZg.html ), I Will Always Love You (English of course, here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wB4sr1JqJ-c.html ), and lastly Parce Que Tu Pars (French, here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gEM4VYYqZvo.html ).
I recommend Lara's concert “en toute intimité”, where she performs, of course, her own songs, but also some of the great hits of French chanson, including Charles Aznavour's song “Comme ils disent”, by Charles Aznavour, who successfully denounced homophobia with this song forty-six years ago, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NMHym4N4UXo.html
Please react to Kristina från Duvemåla (Kristina from Duvemåla) ”Du måste finnas” (You have to exist), sung by Helen Sjöholm. It’s from a Swedish musical that was written by Björn and Benny from ABBA. It’s such a powerful song and Helen is one of Sweden’s most famous singers. The musical is based on the classic Utvandrarna (The Emigrants) and is set in the 1840-1850s when many Swedes emigrated to America because of famine. There are English subtitles to the song in the RU-vid video by ‘baflat’, highly recommend!
if I gave my singing career, my love and my life to someone who didn't care......I'd feel the despair Lara evokes in the classic performance.........remain watching at the end to see her emotional exhaustion
@Rene_Moor3095 Thanks ! I did listen to Dorota performing " Je Taime" in French and "Je Suis Malade" in Polish (couldn't find a version in French).....yes, she has a powerful and evocative voice and her interpretations were moving. ........
@@Whitewolf1827 we all have our opinions, including @Rene_Moor3095, above....I agree Lara's interpretation is the "Gold Standard", but I appreciate all good and great vocalists and will give them a listen.......performing music is not a direct competition for me
@@larryc3860 it isnt but i have a pet peeve against people who sing n mispronounces words in a language they cant perfectly speak now that being said if Dorotha sang it in her main language i wouldnt have any negative thing to say about it
