THe first time I saw this, my heart stopped. I knew something was up. Before Lara turns her head to look at her pianist at the beginning, someone yells out "Chante pas Lara" ie don't sing Lara!

I was at this concert in 2001, we sang together: we love you, I love you... And for 22 years now, every day I have listened to this song of mutual love❤❤ And to know that I was able to help her a little bit during a difficult time for her warms my heart. I am a fan forever...❤❤

For some context, I am no Lara expert, but from what I understand, Lara was having some personal and health issues, going through a really rough patch, which the fans knew about, so they worked with her band leader ,the pianist, to sing this song for her, the title in English being I Love You and they changed it to We Love You, then Lara realizing this starts to dialog with them giving us, the crowd singing "We Love You!" and Lara responding with "I Love You!". Beautiful unique moment.

Sorry to hit you that hard Jess with this Lara request. Absolutely one of the greatest vocalists in history right here (Angelina is sneaking up on her at 17 yo). An anecdote about what you just saw in this video: During an interview on a French radio in 2019 ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OiAwSWzotD4.html ), Lara was talking about the 3 best moments of her career. She said that her duet with Johnny Hallyday was one of them but not the first. Another was her duet with a Belgian singer called Maurane, and finally, that moment with the audience at that concert in Paris in late 2001. Eighteen years later, that moment remained in her memory as one of the best. After seeing your reaction, I added a dual French/English subtitles option to the video, so you can follow the original song too 😉

Je T'aime (I Love You - lyrics Lara Fabian and probably her most famous song). A fan yells "don't sing, Lara!" looking bewildered she hears her fans start singing. Lara starts with "you caught me off guard!" As she starts another fan cries out "don't cry. Lara". Her fans had contacted her pianist and arranged this epic and beautiful tribute to surprise Lara during a personal crisis of losing someone close a few days before this concert. So 6000+ (some say up to 8000) joined in singing her song and when Lara sung: Je T'aime (I Love You) her fans responded: On T'aime (We Love you!). You would think that this was Freddie Mercury's last concert performed before a sold out concert!!

Her performances are always só engaging. She is unique.

The pianist stopped playing because he wanted her to stop singing, when he stops you see her head turn as if asking what he's doing. He didn't stop because he was shocked, he stopped because the fans had contacted him at some point and arranged to sing her song to show her they cared. She was having a bad year, her record label, the same one as Celine Dion had refused to allow her to release music in North America, some say at the behest of Celine herself(though i saw no proof that Celine did) Lara had also had a relationship fail, again no information available. The other thing I noticed was at the start she was singing Je'taime to the imagined partner in the song, but as the song goes on the emphasis becomes the fans who are singing On'taime(we love you) to her. Her body language on the last Je'taime of the song shows just how much emotion she's trying to project back to her fans. This is truly a special performance that neither Lara Fabian or her fans will forget.

So... the auto translate captions are all wrong! The audience has pre-arranged with her band that they will sing this one to her! And someone in the crowd shouts out "Don't sing Lara!' which takes her completely by surprise. A powerful and heartwarming tribute for a very great artist.

Nice reaction :) This is the greater moment in Lara's career i believe.. the peak.. the top of the Everest.. the Olympus or what ever you want to call it. This is the moment every single artist in the world dream of and i haven't see many reach it (i haven't see this happen to anyone else actually). Think of it.. she starts study music at the age of 8 and to reach that level you need to practice every day for endless hours, think the pain the frustration and the sacrifices she did all these years to reach it. She is very frustrated at the time due to personal problems and the criticism she gets at that period. Her fans knew about it and they wanted to express their love and support to Lara. At the right time the right place with the right song (Je t'aime), a group of Lara’s fans approaching her pianist and musical director Pierre Grimard before the concert and agreed that they 'll begin to sing the song "Je T'aime" before Lara. They change the words "Je t'aime" (I love you) to "On t’aime" which means (We love you) and the magic happens. Lara hasn't got a clue of what happen, look at the begining when the pianist stop playing she gets surprised and turns her head to see what's happening. The surprise gets bigger when the fans start singing to her and after the first "on t'aime" she can't sing, the emotions are very strong and she fights to keep her tears. This is the moment i believe she realises that all the pain the frustration and the sacrifices she did in her life was worth it, that this is the top an artist can reach in his life. Money and fame are importand but are nothing compaire to the feelings she got at that time. I can't imagine how she felt and what was crossing her mind at this moment, her song she didn't even know if people 'll like when she wrote it, become the most importand song of her life, a priceless moment for her and her fans. On t'aime Lara.

As far as I know she had a trouble time and she had also found out that Celin Dion (management) had prevented her career in the USA. Lara’s fans made an agreement with the pianist and sang the song for Lara. Have Celin Dion fans ever sung to her to comfort and support her? I think at that moment she felt that the USA is not the hub of the world and that she will have a great career like that.
