This 2- cyl. B&W diesel anno 1926, has 100 HP at 320 rev/min. In the golden age of Danish industrialization there where more than 200 engine manufacturers in this small country, Denmark, with currently 5.5 mil. inhabitants. Often with their own foundry. With 450 different engines on display at the Danish Engine and Machine Collection on Djursland, this is the largest collection of vintage engines in Northern Europe.

we are taught to open the statring air valve of air bottle slowly, to prevent sudden shock wave to the starting air system/manifold. But here, they opened the air bottle valve very quickly.

Three more questions if you don't mind: What was an engine like this used for back in 1926? What is the fluid that looks like oil at 2:52 and why is it flowing out in the open?

The engine pulled a generator for electricity production. The fluid with oil bubbling through is glycerin. It is used as it is heavier than oil, and does not mix with oil. The arrangement with oil bubbling through glycerin, is used as a visual indicator that oil is reaching key lubrication points.

What was the fire flash at about 1:59?

It's a combustion burst from the start-up pressure release valve. The valve prevents compression from blowing of the cylinder head, when pressure is high during start-up.

It's a compression release valve, designed to prevent the engine from blowing of the cylinder head during start-up, where the compression is higher than normal.
