We bought one and my husband and son put it up quickly! We have our coop inside it. We love it! The chickens are safe too. They dug down a foot all the way around and had extra wire laid down. Then they poured concrete over it and filled the rest with dirt. It works perfect!!!

I keep my coop inside of mine also. I am going to try to modify it later and try to make a chicken tractor out of it so I can move it around. Will probably put a skirt around it also with the extra wire. Love what you did with yours though. Would do the exact same thing to mine if I was just going to leave it in that one spot.

@@cornbreadcreekfarm7458 if you want to keep it mobile and still have protection from predators digging under, do what I've seen others do with their chicken tractors, and attach sections of hog pen panels to the bottom of your chicken run/tractor. You then flip the hog panels up when moving it, and flip them down to lay flat on the ground when you've got it where you want. The hog panels laying flat on the ground around the perimeter of your run/tractor will keep predators from digging under and getting at your chickens.

I have that same run. I use it in the summer to grow tomatoes without having birds eating them before I can harvest them. In fall and winter, my hens scratch around in there until there's no weeds at all. They are great little workers as well as pets. Sorry for your loss. I totally understand how you feel. One of mine died naturally. She was very affectionate. She would hop up on my leg to be petted when I sat in a chair outside.

I got the same kind of Run for my girls, too! Mine is a 10ft by 20ft. They love it!!! ❤ I got an extra white tarp to cover the other end of the run, for shade. I did dig a 3" deep x 2' trench, all around the around the coop & lined the trench with 1/2" welded wire, & 2' up the chicken-wire wall. I filled the trench back up with the dirt & put 12" x 12" pavers all around the new run. We have skunks, racoons, coyotes as the main predators in our area. They already got 7 of the original flock...No More!!!! That was pretty devastating! Good luck with your girls!

I don't know what kind of chickens you have? I have had every breed (mostly) but if you want to know what a friendly chicken is...Cochins!!!!! They are 10 weeks old. I sit in their run area, I have a chair out there. (with my other birds/mixed flock) The cochins fun up to me and jump up on the arm rest of the chair and sit on me or on the arm of the chair. It is unbelievable. They are not the small cochins they are the 2nd larges chicken breed just under the Jersey Giant. I LOVE my cochins. Every chicken owner needs a couple of them.

I'm so sorry for your loss! The same thing happened to me with all my bantams. By the time i got out there i saved 1 silkie and i was so torn up and scared for her that i kept her in the house at night with me in a cage and put her outside during the day! I'm now starting to collect some more bantams and i considered buying one of these runs but, i just decided to build a bigger coop and run for them instead, i used 1' mesh wire for the run. It's VERY sturdy wire that's for sure. That regular chicken wire animals can still tear through it, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND you put up some 1' (inch) mesh wire instead!! The dogs that got my bantams tore right through the regular chicken wire! Instead, use that regular chicken wire to close in the floor of the cage for extra security, plus you'll be able to move it around the yard like a chicken tractor so they'll always have fresh grass to eat as well!! I can't handle losing another bunch of bantams like that again, it's just to heart breaking. I'm sure you don't want to go through that again either. I hope your new run works out well. Blessings and prayers for you

So sorry for your loss. It hurts even though they are chickens. I have the 18 foot model of this run for my 3 hens and 1 chick. They all seem happy. The run works well but I added a wrapping of 1/2 inch hardware cloth around the bottom section, over wrapping the bottom of the door and door frame because I live in the desert where everything loves chicken. I also replaced the plastic zip ties with metal ones because the sun and heat rot plastics in a month or two. The tarp roof tore out in a wind storm 2 nights ago so it now has a blue tarp tied on with mule tape. The back 2/3rds is also wrapped with shade cloth to keep the girls from frying their little brains in the heat. I like this kit and am thinking of getting another for turkeys. I had to have some help putting on the wire. Thank you for the video. A note for anyone getting this run who is worried about bird flu, it does not keep the smaller birds like wrens and sparrows out. They are able to go through the chicken wire and through the top of the door frame. The baby mourning doves are also able to go through the door frame, but are too stupid to get back out the same way. I have to leave the door open for them to fly out but some of them still don't get it.

Suggest using wire or clamps to secure, and put something more substantial for barrier from ground to 5 feet, maybe hog panel of some kind. Dogs can chew the wire ties off. so can most predators. I like the idea, will be getting some of these style shelters/runs for my flock.

If you can afford to, buy some 1/2 hardware cloth/wire to run the circumference of your pen about 2 ‘ high. This will prevent your girls from getting their heads through the poultry wire and tearing their crops which can be life threatening. Also provides extra strength to prevent larger animals from tearing through the original wire which is common. Be safe and proactive instead of sorry you didn’t do it sooner. God Bless

I don't know how you can live there right next to all that road noise. It's enough to drive one crazy. Maybe you should cut one or two of those pines down to make room and plant Thule or some bushier non-deciduous evergreens to grow as a high hedge to muffle the road noise. That chicken run from Amazon is a good idea. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am encouraged to get one.

Those trees will either crush the house. Crush the shed or crush a car when it falls in the road. Has a very thin line to fall in. There are 84 of them also. That is so awesome you love your chickens like I do. Our oldest hen is 15 years old. The oldest I ever had was 18 when a dog got her sitting on eggs at my uncles when he was chicken sitting. I was so mad! I was 24 when she died. (59 now) I would skin the whole thing with welded wire or the small hole panels. Poultry wire keeps poultry in but does nothing to keep predators out. I had a stray rip right through the wire. I also flange the wire 2 ft on the outside on the ground so diggers have a harder time. Metal panels for the roof. Today mine are as predator proof as I can make it. I'd also auger it to the ground. We get high winds

I bought one of those two years ago, and I love it! It has held up well (the tarp was replaced with one the goes all the way down both sides, since the original tore up in the wind). I ran the chicken wire down an additional four feet on all sides and buried it, so nothing is able to dig under the walls and get in. My only concern is the gaps around the door are big enough to let a marten in, but we do have grey squirrels here so maybe we don't have marten in my area (fingers crossed).

I finally got smart when I was trying to put the netting under the bottom pole of the frame, I took some half bricks I had laying around and stuck the bricks under the supports that would normally anchor to the ground. That gave me a extra 1 1/2' between the ground and the bottom frame pole! Made it a whole lot easier to work with the netting and get it under that bottom frame pole! Of course I didn't figure this out right away, I had to do a couple of them before it clicked! Better late than never! 😀 Another thing I came up with, since I really didn't trust those zip ties and possibly a predator chewing thru a zip tie? I cut thru every hole in the netting, so I had two somewhat straight wires that I could pull tight to the other side of the netting and wrap each piece of the wire around the netting several times using my fingers to keep wrapping the wire around a solid hole in the netting! ( on every hole of the netting for the whole width) Really strengthened it a lot, even without using the zip ties! But I still added some zip ties anyway just as a extra precaution! Actually looks a lot better too then having the netting flopping around at the bottom with just a zip tie every so often to hold it together! I can tell you it's a time-consuming project wrapping the wire on the ends like that! I have no doubt though that it"s stronger holding around the bottom frame pole, as well as looks better! If you don't mind spending the time? It's a pain to do on every hole of the netting! I'm glad I did it though, a little more security in case a zip tie fails the wrapped fencing wire will still hold it together around that bottom pole!

Are finishing our new coop made from pieces of our old usable coop ( hardware cloth, 2x4s and 4x4 posts ) T-111 siding and metal roof from a hurricane damaged shed and a hurricane bent carport like your run. Can't afford all new supplies, too expensive right now. Lost 3 chickens to foxes a month ago, so know how that feels. Have had almost every predator kill some over the years - neighborhood dogs, bears, hawks, eagles, foxes, rat snakes and raccoons. Put up a game camera and see what shows up at night! The chicken run comes with enough netting left over to put an apron all the way around it but I think that is a great idea. I will probably make an apron to go around it with welded wire. We bought one smaller (6.5 x 10ft.) But because we live in the country and chicken wire is not predator proof we also bought 2 x 4 in. Welded wire and put on top pf the chicken wire. Don't forget to add 1/2 in. Hardware cloth to the bottom rail for about 2 ft. Out ( for digging predators.) Bury it a couple inches under the dirt. I am going to plant wild flowers around the outside on top of this soil. We zipped tied this run to one we already had just to add additional run space for our chickens. Soon as our new little girls are big enough I will be cutting a hole out of them so everyone will be able to go back and forth between the two runs. Helpful hint, Amazon has stainless steel zip ties, use these and you will not be replacing zip ties for a long time. Texas heat really does a number on plastic zip ties.

This is my first time watching your channel. I know it happened a while back but I'm sorry you lost your hens to predation. I like your new set up which gives the hens one more layer of protection. We should always do our best to protect our animals. I'd love to see you build one of those fresh food growing stations. I don't know what they're called but it's basically a 2 x 4 frame with a wire mesh top and you plant seeds in the ground under the mesh. The chickens graze on what ever grows through the mesh and the plant lives to grow another day. They love it.

Sorry to hear this! my worst nightmare! I got the same run. I've raised all my birds from young. Setting this up was kind of stressful because I don't have help so it took 3 days to literally finish nicely. This is definitely for adult chickens if anyone is reading. Your little pullets will get out the door space, and theres a tiny space around the bottom, I sunk the cage in the ground.

We have a run like this. Unfortunately dogs got in twice. First time they tore through the chicken wire and killed 24 out of 25 chickens. Then we added goat wire around the sides. Dogs got through the double latched door and killed 2 bunnies we got after loosing our chickens. Now we have an electric fence up around it and only a snake got in and sadly killed another bunny. It’s a lot of learning as you go. Now we have chickens and bunnies. Added sensor alarms (to scare what may jump over the electric fence). Just heard them last night 🚨 sadly my game camera couldn’t capture what it was). Ultimately we trust God to watch over them and give us wisdom to care for them. He gives and He takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord. So sorry you lost chickens to dogs too. Hope the new set up is working well for you!

As I was watching you cutting the chicken wire I was thinking, you might want to bury it in the ground so that way you don't have to worry about predators like pulling it up and crawling up underneath there also I heard about predators actually pulling chickens by their heads through the chicken wire That's pretty gruesome thought I know but I did hear about that so I thought I'd tell you

I have had 20 plus chickens for years. The secret to keeping them safe is a good.......a good and secure coop that you can securely close up at night. Chickens go into the coop and you close it up and then let them into the run the next morning. Another tip, regardless of make, brand, function or design ......Never, and I mean never rely on any type of automatic chicken door. Get lazy and count on some contraption and it will fail. It will fail to close and at this point it is a gamble if something figures that out. Runs are for daytime use. Other than neighborhood dogs which are easily discouraged with standard runs, ALL predator attacks occur at night.(except birds of prey) Racoons, possums, foxes, coyotes, etc all prowl the night. It is the Racoons that pull off chicken heads if you allow your chickens to run about in a run at night with wire large enough for them to reach in and grab one. They cannot get the entire chicken through the wire so they eat its head. If they are closed up at night, no issue. Leave them in the run and yep, you are flipping a coin. One of the greatest dangers to chickens are Hawks , Eagles, Owls etc, even a tiny little sparrow hawk can kill a full grown chicken, these economical runs put a stop to that. As tempting as it is t o allow your chickens free range, that is a for sure eventual death sentence. So a run for daytime and a good secure coop at night with a human actuated door is the solution. These runs are fantastic used as intended. They are for daytime use and protection from birds of prey and neighborhood dogs during the day. At night you must close them up in a secure coop. Never fear they will go in the coop and roost all on their own, all you have to do is close the door. Chickens are easily taken from the roost, so like I said, never rely on some automatic contraption. It will fail, just a matter of time. Kit

I've watched enough videos to have reservations about the complete safety of that run. I just hope raccoons / possums don't cut that chicken wire with the strength of their claws + or teeth. I've heard that their teeth are scissorlike, but their claws can rip thru chicken wire like a paper bag. Coyotes + dogs + perhaps large foxes would also be able to jump up on that + maybe tip it over if it isn't quite heavy. Weasels + rats would be able to squeeze through the circles of chicken wire + could potentially kill your whole flock if they can enter the part of the coop you don't seal up with hardware cloth. I am seriously considering buying one just to pull around the yard for a few hours while I'm out watching them eat grass + forage. But I wouldn't dare leave them alone in it, just in case of a high wind or persistant preditors that would dig under it or climb on top of it. The tarp on top may act as a sail in a strong wind. I'm praying that what I heard isn't really right , but I'd hate for you to lose the last 3 precious birds due to not fortifying extra well with hardware cloth under the bottom + up on the first few feet of the walls. God bless 🙏

There is one problem with this type of coop. If you put a tarp on it, it then the tarp definitely sags after a rainstorm since the roof is flat not peaked. Other than that, this works well for chickens.

That chicken wire (mesh) will keep your chickens in, but I don't think it will keep dogs and other predators out for long. I built my chicken run using 1/2 inch hardware mesh. It costs more, but it's much stronger than chicken wire.

Good luck. I ordered the same and parts were missing, parts not labeled per instructions. Not secure. Put 1/2 hardware cloth all the way around 4 ft up & lay bricks or cinder blocks around the bottom so nothing can dig under it. The chicken wire that comes with it will keep your birds in but will not keep predators out. Hard cloth us essential in protecting your birds
