Today I’m in Chicago IL on 7-28-18 and I’m sharing the Route 66 Lionel Model Railroad of John Ruh.
John & wife Darlene host a wonderful time for family & friends to visit their model railroad that features a trip thru historic on Route 66 from Chicago to California.
The layout started in 2002, and was inspired by model trains John remembers around his Christmas tree as a child Also his family history includes his Grandfather John T. Ruh who worked as a Bartender for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1936 through 1956 on a famous dormitory club lounge car called “The Little Nugget” which traveled from Los Angeles to Chicago.
With John today is Mike Erzen. Mike is a Chicago area Artist and he’s designed and build every area on the layout to represent a place on Route 66 with amazingly great detail.
The engines, cars, scenery on the layout are of the highest quality, and many items are custom and hand built.
This is just a wonderful experience to view.

This is a pleasant break, Lou! I love that Cat Parrot - hahaha! I used to have a Nanday Parrot - he'd shake hands, give you a kiss and bark like a dog. Never did talk, just bark. LOL. Route 66 theme is cool. This train setup is awesome! A lot of money and love poured into this. The detail is as amazing as his story. The car wash is freaking Awesome Sauce! The WigWam (TeePee) motel in Arizona we stayed in when I was a kid on our California vacation. Again - the detail here is amazing. And you helped with a cool donation? Mega cool train bro! With all those buttons to press - my ex-wife Cujo would have a field day there! She loved pushing buttons, especially mine - lol.

Rewatched video .. I drove over the Chain of rocks bridge regularly .Now its a bicycle bridge . O gauge is my favorite

interesting points ,if anyone else wants to learn about model railroad layouts try Stiklind Model Train Fixer (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my partner got amazing success with it.

I just bought Gina's Diner @ 05.19. These guys had amazing attention to detail, I think only someone fully familiar with Route 66 & Chicago could appreciate just how far they've gone.

Hello from Venezuela, these people really dedicated themselves to the super detail of collecting memorabilia from ROUTE 66. I enjoy seeing the firth Mc Donnald's, a lot of neon signs and especially the BIG BOY LOCOMOTIVE that you Mr Costabile gave then as a gift. You are a Gentlemen and Grateful person. This is the cleanest layout I've ever seen. I love the neon signs. Lionel is a different breed of hobby. Although scale has been thrown to the wind, this layout is a true work of art.
