Climbing aroids need a few things to mature:
- LIGHT!!!
- Time
- Support
- Food (I use Growth Technology Australia Foliage Focus. Get it from GrowingGrounds if you are in Australia: growingrounds.square.site/)
I'm pretty happy with the light & food I provide the plant. So I thought let's see if changes to the support can help this plant to mature further.

I’ve started using empty 2L bottles, I cut off the top and bottom, and the glue strip (where the label is attached). Then I cut the middle section in half so I end up with 2 pieces of approximately 6” wide and 6.5” tall. I stack these along the back of a moss pole using Velcro tape and overlap the plastic just a bit. One plastic bottle gives me a 6” x 12” backing. It really helps keep my poles moist and keeps plastic out of the landfill.
@michelejones4282

How do you connect the plastic to the wire. Or is it a whole moss with the plastic as backing?🤷‍♀️

Love your poles so much I've now got 50 yes 50 of my plants on poles in Hope's of getting the mature leaves you have, I've only gotten one that has been extended so far but they are all doing well, thanks so much for this channel I'm a huge fan. And yes I do have a plan for when my plants are huge like yours, I have a large rumpus room that my son currently occupies but he will eventually move outside to his own tiny home, so I'm going to get a huge plant room, I can't wait.

( What was happening?..🤔) What I liked the most and It's thrilling when You're about to cut it into 2 part...because I can't imagine when I have to face this situation...( I don't know what to do?... The plant is so big, beautiful and lush..) And finally you did it well and it looks easy!..😊 I appreciate it! You are our BEST TEACHER!. GENIUS!!. I'm soo happy that the top part is growing beautifully and happily with new leaves on new plastic backed pole...and the bottom part is also showing new shoots.. Jan...I'm soo proud of you!.😊.. At the beginning of the video ( 3 weeks earlier) I was surprised! when you appeared from behind your giant plants. I thought you were sitting on the couch... It turned out you were half lying down with a relaxed posture.😀.. Relaxing comfort is what all of us wants, so we can enjoy our little jungle in our house/ apartment.. Hi: Enjoyed this video very much...a quick question..how do you keep the leaves looking so healthy and green? You mentioned that the larger ones can't be put in the bathtub, and spraying would seem difficult with your carpets....wiping them is the option of course, but that's a lot of time spent with so large a collection...it's very obvious where your love lies...congrats on a wonderful, helpful series...can't wait for the next one!

@@sydneyplantguy Sorry...I forgot you have that nice terrace you can use...the plants must love a good bath now and then...with our winter chilly weather here in Tuscany, putting out greenery outside for a clean up isn't possible...so we use a ground-floor bathroom shower..works like magic....hauling them around is a chore, but they are so much better off, and seem to grow a lot healthier. We don't have the taller moss pole aroids, but many smaller peace lilies, ferns, and other tropicals....all in a day's work. Again, many thanks for informative, fun videos.

Awesome vid. Question - I'm 3 months in to my first moss poles and some of my plants aren't rooting into the poles as well as others. Have you tried watering your poles with clonex when this happens? Does it help? (I think the real reason is I stuffed those poles too tight, but I'd like to remedy this in the extension pole)

Another killer video Jan! Unrelated question but pls HELP... I just bought a Verrucosum cutting that has 2 nodes rooted into it's moss pole. The leaf is beautiful but has been getting more and more droopy for the 3 days I've had it. It's going to start browing or die if I don't help it soon! It's got medium / bright indirect light, a moist pole, 70% humidity, 22ish degrees, and the base is planted in MAB. The only thing I can think of to help it is to plant the base in moss with some Growth Tech rooting hormone. Maybe the base which has no roots and is too dry. The plant looks de-hydrated to me. Maybe I should air layer the nodes for now as well? Any tips appreciated!

Thank you so much for your content!!! I’m just starting my “go big” journey and am curious why a larger diameter pole with an equal increase in moss (compared to the plastic backing) for the roots to grow into wouldnt result in larger leaves. My inexperienced logic reasons that if the sphagnum moss was doubled or tripled in volume via increased diameter, that would also support an increase in leaf size. Wondering what your thoughts are. Thanks in advance for your gracious sharing of knowledge!!!

Wouldn’t the bottom plant grow larger leaves faster? I would think the top cutting would go through the process of shedding all of the buried leaves and then growing a new underground root system, stunting its growth and I would think the bottom cutting being re-potted with fresh soil and a new pole would grow larger foliage faster since it already had an established root system and large leaves. I’d love to correct my thinking if it’s wrong so can someone help explain please?
@sydneyplantguy

The bottom leaves are older and are already deteriorating, while they will re-shoot and can produce large leaves again soon, the plant is just not as easthetically pleasing :) of rooted properly, the top half will not shed leaves :)

Soooo I have a question for Yan or anyone else who may know... I have a monstera that's about 2 years old. Very big and wild and never put on a moss pole. I did use a wood steak that hasn't been much help for the last year maybe but she's a bit unruly. Can I still repot her onto a moss pole? Although the bottom may look a little weird because of the shape of it now but should I leave her or try to change her? She isn't growing as much anymore. And she's currently in a pretty large pot. Any advice?

Ultimately there is no right or wrong ... it really depends on what you want the end result to look like. I personally would take a propagation, root it & then start in fresh on a ole. However, I if we're talking about a deliciosa, I don't think you really need a moss pole for growing purposes, maybe for propagation purposes eventually :)

If you don’t have a greenhouse with perfect conditions. So please people who live there. Don’t think or try to grow your plants like this, they will never grow as big, and don’t need to.
