Large Scrapping Furnace for aluminium melting, waste oil fueled

Large capacity easy build Furnace powered by waste oil for seperating aluminium for scrap metal selling and recycling. See my other burner vids and tutorials here: ru-vid.comvideos Made from a 205L drum and using a waste oil burner featured in my other channel videos, this furnace can take small engines, gearboxes and other large pieces of metal containing scrap aluminium which can be easily melted and seperated.
The burner is the waste oil type and provides more than enough power to melt the largest and heaviest pieces. It's output is well inexcess of 300Kw and it used Waste vegetable oil or engine oil or any other combustable liqud.
The furnace would be perfect for melting aluminium Soda cans in bulk as well as lawn mower engines and chassis. The large capacity of the drum means multiple pieces of raw scrap can be melted before the remains need to be cleaned out.
The furnace is also capeable of melting copper so the aluminium from things like starter motors would be melted off then the waste oil burner turned up if needed to melt and seperate the copper as well. If the drum was insulated with some refractory or kiln wash, the effeciency of the unit would be much higher.
The furnace is demonstrated in it's simplest lowest cost form as a proof of concept that would well exceede the needs of most home users.

Very amazing to see the burner is mounted tangential thereby creating or diverting the flame direction in circumferential path exposing the substance being melted to wide heat area.If you allow I will apply your principle in my kiln design.I hope I will be successful on this idea.More power dear.

@glumpy10

yeah, there seems to be a lot of stuff that is aluminium with steel embedded that would be hard to seperate by hand. That's what the thought behind this was. After the ally and steel are seperated the ally could be either sold at the right price or refined further if need be. Where I am, aluminium motors are only worth steel value, about $10. If the ally was melted from them, I calculate it would be worth $50-70. If you could run say 4-5 in a batch, I think they would be well worth melting seeing it would only cost a bit of free time. I'm wondering about gearboxes as well. I think there would be a lot of steel in the gears but I'm curious how thick the ally casings are.

Let me know if you put a Vid up. Love to see other people build these things and put them to use!

@glumpy10
@glumpy10 7 лет назад
Atanas Tripzter I don't think it's much different in any first world country because we are conditioned and forced into it. I just bought 4 New inkjet printers. Cost of printer delivered, $89 ea. Cost of set of replacement Carts $124. How does that work? Luckily I refill the carts with bulk ink so save a fortune but it's much the same with anything. Cheaper to throw away than repair so that's what happens. Same as My 18 month old TV. Guy came out and said it's not a big thing but we'll just give you a voucher to go get another one. I said I like this one, just fix it . They wouldn't and just gave me the voucher to the value of the set to get another. I can't fix it myself and no one else would even look at it so it got thrown out. Then all these people come bitching on my vids about the environment and recycling because I burn and make a bit of smoke from some oil. Idiots!

I['m getting to enjoy melting ally myself! You can see on my Furnace Vid where I melted steel. Guys on the metal casting forums do cast iron with oil burners all the time and non of them have anywhere near the power these things Kick out. I do think you need some sort of proper insulated furnace to allow it to be pourable rather than just melt and slump. After what I did in a few minutes in my pretend brick furnace, I think there would be very little you couldn't melt in an oil powered furnace!

@glumpy10
@glumpy10 9 лет назад
IAN 4000 If you mean a door and a chimney, yeah, for sure! Not so much burn hotter as retain the heat already generated better. The reason I leave it open is for filming. Much more interesting to see the metal melting than just look at a glowing drum. I have more than enough power to melt the metal anyway and if you look at some of my more recent vids you can see I fire the burner straight in so it is pushing the heat to the back and it has to come forward again to escape increasing the over all heat retention in the drum. Of course to do this properly I should get some refractory and line the drum.

The burner is about 60 Cm tall by about 20 Cm across. It was designed to be fired vertical and that's how I normally use it. This was the first time I used it horizontally. As you can see worked fine even in the orientation it was not designed for.
@CryB4DieXIIV
@CryB4DieXIIV 9 лет назад
Oil Burner does it work better on its side?
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 9 лет назад
CryB4Die I think it does slightly . there is more surface area to vaporise the oil. It makes it a little easier to start and very responsive as the oil doesn't seem to be able to pool like it does vertically. That means it burns whatever you feed it instantly and it runs very hot but it also makes it a bit more touchy to get your fuelling right for a given airflow.
@CryB4DieXIIV
@CryB4DieXIIV 9 лет назад
What's that plate in the back of the drum?
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 9 лет назад
If you mean the one the AC is sitting on, it was just to protect the drum from the heat and Molten aluminium. I may have also put the lid I cout out of the drum on the bottom/ back for the same reason. The backsides seem to burn out of these drums faster than the sides for some reason.
