With the plum tree, I don’t know if you have already mentioned it in a different video, but a lot of fruit trees have alternate years for good fruit crops and then the next year, they tend to smaller crops and turn their energy into the tree itself. Then the cycle continues Hope it survives to next year though 🤞

Mary Maria - if you see this, I used to have a homestead too. I learned by reading books and going to organic farming conferences. Elliott Coleman has several books that are handy. (he's also on youtube) We sold some of our produce to food co-ops and had members of our farm who bought shares, and I canned the rest.

Composting is great, but if you have a dehydrator, dehydrate some of fresh-picked carrot tops (leaves more than stems) and you can make a mildly spicy green powder full of nutrients. Same with beet greens, radish greens. etc. Dehydrating them gives you an herb for flavoring foods, and nearly all the nutrients of eating them fresh, except you can serve them in soups, stews, sauces, etc, in the wintertime!

There's lots of things you can grow indoors. Look into small container varieties of tomatoes (Tiny Tim is 12" tall) peppers (Grandpa's Home is also 12" tall) sprouts, microgreens, salad greens, radishes, etc. I hope this helps.

Gardening is such a great hobby - it's so satisfying to be able to grow your own food, and even more so to be able to preserve it for later. I've only been gardening for a couple years, but I've already learned so much and I'm always excited to learn more. I would encourage you to keep at it - even if it's just a small backyard garden, there's nothing like the feeling of being able to go out to your garden and harvest fresh produce that you grew yourself.

GO Becky! So proud for you and of you! You look like a pro out there. Love that you are mixing flowers and veggies- my Grandfather ( who could grow anything!) always mixed his stuff and he had the best gardens in the world. He even grew corn and sugarcane in his front yard so the elementary school kids down the street could take field trips to see it ! Love from Louisiana!

I just love watching your videos! My garden is about the size of one your garden beds! I was wondering if you would do an experiment with the bed that wasn’t used this year and plant a full garden in one bed (tomatoes, peppers, carrots, onions etc)?!For those of us that have small gardens I think it would be fun to see how you can organize and plant 1 bed that produces all of your food and how much you can actually get out of it!

Have you tried 'hanging' a garden? (Like hanging baskets) It's a great way to use space that would otherwise go unused....especially when your space on the ground is limited.
