The largest battle in the western front was battle of the bulge.

In fact about half of the steel used to make the tanks that fought at Kursk was supplied by the US, along with a majority of fuel used to make them run. Less flashy but just as important.

Slavic peoples and Germanic ones always fought eachother, we always battled and always payed the highest pricess for victory. Every conflict was as brutal as tech could allow it, it was always a fight to the death. Makes me wonder what would happen if we worked together for once.

Of course I don't know first-hand, but the Eastern Front had to be a nightmare 24/7 for anybody that participated in it... attrition on a biblical scale not unlike it was in The Great War, World War One...but with a bunch of technical advances in mechanical and air warfare. Even with that, the bottom line was to just kill more of your opponent than what your side lost. How horrible it must have been to see the dead and dying all around you for as far as you could see. Losses that weren't counted in the tens or hundreds of thousands, but millions. In looking back on it, the world was probably lucky, in some morbid and sick way, that Hitler was mad enough to open two major fronts at the same time or the history books may very well be quite different than they are now. Scary thought.

Maybe because ww2 is a big war and soldiers now are fighting like a guerilla style where the wars are more on bombs, mines and sniping. Just be glad that we did not experience ww2 and hope that ww3 will not come soon.
