OK I have to visit that shop..Merritville is not too far away from where I live (near Lewiston, N.Y.). Now that the bridge restrictions are eased up I'll have to take a trip to that shop. Looks like a gold mine for model train fans. Enjoy your videos the best model railroading videos on RU-vid.
It’s funny you mention the train station that was turned into a model restaurant. That’s the Atlas Roadside Inn, which shares tooling with their Suburban Station Kit.
Send in the clowns... Harrison, I believe your viewers are most likely steaming with anticipation about the mystery purchase. In addition to that, I hope you didn't pass on the Atlas BNSF. As for the circus, you're going to have to add another layout branching off the Mainline as a circus back in the day was typically held in a field outside of town. And you may want to add a small carnival including a ferris wheel into the mix. Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍
Hello from Germany. My English is so bad, so I use a free program - I hope you can read in English what I mean in German! ;-) In minute 6:45 you can see a fall platform that was used to supply locomotives with coal. Of course, these crash platforms could only be erected where the topography allowed it. In addition, this type of coaling is personnel and material-intensive and originated from the early days of steam locomotive coaling. The coal wagons, which were delivered to the coaling level, had to be unloaded by hand, shoveled into the hunt and then either unloaded by crane over the coal box of the locomotives or poured directly into the tenders using the chutes. The model is manufactured by Pola No. 671 for H0 gauge and No. 216 for N gauge.
Wonderful memories with this Lark spur visit! I live in Montreal's West Island but visited Lark Spur many many times when visiting family in Merrickville. They have passed on now, and we have not been in several years. In fact my 'dive' into DCC began there back in 2003, purchasing about 20 decoders to convert non-DCC locs... Great memories.-CL
This is award winning. All that was viewed is a winner! The circus scenery looks like IHC, you got a gem. I wish I had a hobby store like this in my tri- state area. Way to go. 👍🙂
BlacknRed81 those 86ft boxcars are still around, they are used mostly in the Midwest area for example......Michigan. You won’t see them hardly at all in the western part of the USA.
We had stores like this in the U.K. all closing down and all now mostly online ,there is nothing like going into a model shop and looking around many times I’ve gone in and said I just get a coach or wagon and come out with a locomotive ,dvd and more than one coach I have a nice Amtrak streamliner from athern and a BNSI loco from Bachman. ,take care 👍🏻😊
Now you need what we call the lock and key to go with your show. The key to open a show has always been the merry go round. The lock is the Ferris wheel. The lock closes the show. It's the first lights to shut off. The merry go round hits its music and spins to open the day. Have you ever looked at the mechanical carnival models? They are amazing! I would love to build my own. I've never seen a model of the gravitron or starship 2000. Both same just starship is bigger. Trailer mounted a version of what most pilots and astronauts have to endure to become what they are? 65 mph at 3 1/2 g's of force. I was the man in the center at 1 time in my life. Man did i put on a show in there! Floating in the air walking the walls. Not a life choice. Just helping him get started. Teaching new people how to set the rides up. Maintenance the machines and tearing them down and packing them up. Was my younger years. Didn't really have a direction a goal or even a future. I liked building machines and cars trucks. The best was I got to see more of the world and meet the people. Seen places i couldn't afford to go. Places most can't dream about going cuz they can't afford to bearly go to carnival let alone go to an island inside the 🇺🇸. Lucky i met someone who owned a carnival.
That arch bridge is gorgeous!!! And the circus? Wow! What detail...and what a price! Now you have to make room for it on the layout. Good luck with that! And you'll have "the elephant in the room". All that roadbed...FREE?? Can't beat THAT price!! All in all, a great tour video, Harrison.
That model power building kit that said Luigi's Trattoria is neat. In Stoughton Massachusetts we actually have the restaurant called Mario's Trattoria.
Yes! Those are massive HO scale 86ft Autoparts Boxcars. Quite cool pieces of rollingstock. They were able to become so long due to the light weight of the autoparts being shipped. Some are being replaced by just containers I believe. But those boxcars are quite common between Detroit and Kansas City. Atleast thats the only line Ive seen them on.
I made sure to play this video on the tv so that my wife could watch along side me. I was like “oooh look, they have the Rapido LRC’s in stock.” Hint hint, wink wink. Thanks for the tour! You always do a great job advertising for Jeff. He should give you more than free cork. ;) Hint hint wink wink. Haha. I’ll be going for sure during his annual no tax sale.
Nice tour of the hobby shop SMT! Those 86' auto parts boxcars are most likely Walthers products judging by the coupler setup. Athearn also made these cars back in the blue box days, however while the car itself is quite good the coupler setup had quite a bit of binding as they were a piece that shared the mounting holes with the truck. Cool circus module too! Take care!
Id say your correct . I have 2 mantua boilers and they look just like them but to fit a chassis on a Pacific it don't work too well I tried to anyway. But I want to build 2 mikados and then i have a chassis for a Pacific i know where im getting the boiler for that its at my loco flea market if its still there .
Great trip! I would love to see a more detailed video upload about the people, animals, attractions inside the circus, your plans for the circus on you're layout and maybe a future circus train.(diesel, stream, electric)
Oh I knew you were going to get something this is awesome. I wish the hobby shop i went to had a consignment section. But i plan on going to the flea market I want to see if there is something there for me lol like ez track for a train around the tree is what im looking for. Awesome purchases Harrison. rock on! 6:44 thats what's it for moving coal. Looks to be for ship yard like when titanic era steam ships
Coal dock bit seems to be part of the Walthers steel mill set and the " converted train station " looks to be the old Atlas Howard Johnson restaurant kit. Not surprised you didn't know what it was as HoJo was well on it's way to oblivion when I was your age or younger ( for reference I just turned 59 last month) and is essentially extinct. Also further confirmation of the boxcars as 86 foot auto parts cars. They used to be common as dirt passing through my home town here in Chicago's northwest suburbs heading back and forth from the GM plant up in Janesville WI until the plant shutdown 10 12 years ago.
SMT - The restaurant building was made by Atlas; it was a modification of the Atlas depot. The Hershey car is actually an ice-cooled refrigerator car; it has the ice hatches at each corner of the roof & hinged doors instead of sliding doors.
SMT if you really want to see a BIG train store, you should check out the Scale Model Supplies in Saint Paul, MN. They have a huge stock of new and used trains, in various scales.
I don't Know where this shop is, but some of their prices seem really steep? Their used building section had a few interesting items though. Congrats on the cork deal.
If I could bring my Friend You And I Together to go Train shopping It would be Awsome But Covid isDampening our plans for Model Railroading. By the Looks of it the Show in Feb just May be Cancelled. Damn it.we’ll find a way to Model Railroad.
