Larry never really wanted to be a coach BUT He said said if He got talked into it He would only sign a 3-Year Contract. He Believed that if a Coach was going to be able to make a difference it would happen in Their first few Years. Larry has always been a Man of His words So that was Why He only Coached for 3-Years. I Heard this in a Interview with Larry on here "somewhere" on YT. Some People think it was because Larry started to have heart problems BUT That's Not why, He Said Only 3-Years & He Meant Only 3-Years.
Larry won Rookie of the Year. Larry Bird finished top 2 in MVP votes every year from 1981 to 1988 He finished 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, and 2nd. This streak began during only his second season in the league! Absolutely insane stretch from Larry Legend. The ONLY players besides Larry to win MVP three years in a row were Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell.
I think one of the things that gets missed by so many 'so called' basketball fans, is that Indiana State University were a 3rd tier college , They literally had never even made the NCAA tournament before or since. Bird was all they had and he took them to a National Final against Michigan State , who were a traditional NCAA powerhouse. This is like the Kansas City Chiefs (picked them because they are the superbowl champs) playing against a High School team with one great player. Also in the 87 NBA finals game 4 , After Kareem Missed the free throw, the ball clearly goes out of bounds off a Laker hand. It should have been Celtics ball and history would be different
I did not get played, LA won that series. But yeah, you expect it to go in when he's shooting when it counts most. He did it over and over and over etc etc etc.
