Truly rare stuff, many thanks! I am getting goose bumps listening to the great singer Patryce "Choc-Let" Banks - I miss her so badly

The woman is Patryce Choc'Let Banks the brother in the green hat and glasses is Hershall"Happiness " Kennedy who also played back up on some of Betty Davis' (not the actress)early stuff. Hershall was cool he let me in backstage in 77 at the Norfolk Scope.

I know exactly where this clip came from. I believe this is from a Midnight Special that was filmed on the campus of the University of Chicago. Ohio Players and Tata Vega were on the bill. Thanks so much for posting this clip!

Let us never forget that Larry Graham played in a band that was just as good, maybe better than Sly & the family Stone.

Thanks! Larry Graham is the greatest funk Bass player in the Universe! He's out-da-site Bro! I caught on to his Graham Central Station because of his time laying down the heavy bass lines for Sly Stone. I figured he musta had some of the Family members with him ... he did when I saw him and played a lot from the Sly and Family Stone days. Larry is still great, but back in the day, him and Sly were a funky force to contend with! Wishing those two would get together again! Best wishes Bro!!

Freddie is busy pastoring a church in the Bay area and producing and recording his on FUNK/GOSPEL sound. Also his sister Rose Stone is producing her own cd right now. In the past they have appear on each others CD. Sly is also featured on a song by the group Babystone. There CD just dropped. The lead singer of Babystone is Sly's daughter and she she's got IT. The musical talent and the looks. Vet's not in The current (NEW FAMILY STONE) But Rose and her daughter perform in it.They JUST DID JAPAN
@LRayWilliams
@LRayWilliams 16 лет назад
(Update) Vet had a seperate band there were two bands under the Family Stone, Vet was in one. Cynthia & Jerry have their own. Vet currently is on the Praise and Worship team at Elder Fred Stewart's (aka Freddie Stone) Church.

Yes indeed, a rear treat !!! Larry without a doubt is one of the innovators of funk bass, may he continue to send out those melodic bass lines that keep us foot stompin and head noddin. Does anyone know the names of the rest of the band in this clip ?

My only gripe about this is that IT IS Not the full set that was originally shown on that airing. The Midnight Special on that date closed with G.C.S. doing a medley of "Release Yourself", which segued into "Its Alright" then back into "Release Yourself". Larry screamed "if the music makes you feel like cursin'" at one point, which is how it made me feel! After that airing I became a bass player!

Damnit where do you find footage for G.C.S. ? Why is it so hard to find stuff from them!
@LRayWilliams

Check out Sex Machine by Sly and The Family Stone speaking of Larry he played the bass like no other in History! That was recorded around 67 or 68. No one did bass blowouts until Larry did it with S&TFS years later Bootsy did it. A whole slew of Bassists changed their style or took up the bass because of LG. Me ? I played keys in a funk band but 30 years later i finally got a bass because...I GOT GRAHAM-FUNK-ITIS and it was left untreated fo 3 decades. Now I've got to play BASS till I die!!!

This is GREAT!!! Love dat Funky music! I know who Larry Graham is, and I've seen him in concert before. Also I've seen a group touring recently AS Sly and the Family Stone. Sly and his sister were in it, but not Larry Graham. So is this early Sly and the Family Stone? It sure looks and sounds like he and his sister are there on this, and looks like him in the green hat and glasses on the keys? Thanks!
