Xanadu was going to be the first themed mega resort on the Las Vegas Strip. Although the casino never materialized multiple resorts in the future used design features that influential architect Martin Stern Jr. used in designing Xanadu.
The appraisal of the Xanadu project also gives a glimpse of what the Las Vegas Strip was like in 1975 including what were the cheapest and most expensive room rates on the Strip.

I really appreciated this video as Tandy McGinnis is my great-grandfather. If the Xanadu would've happened I probably wouldn't be here today but it would've been really cool if his dream could've come to fruition. Thanks, Vegas Visual for the awesome historical documentary.

I was there in 76, they had Caesars, Circus Circus, MGM, Rivera, DI, Stardust, Sands, Flamingo, Dunes, Sahara, Harrahs' that was pretty much it...Not to forget Downtown which had the Horeshoe, Binion's and the Fremont as well.

Very cool. The 1970's and 1980's were the lost decades of Vegas when the economy was up and down, gas prices were up and Atlantic City legalized gambling in the late 1970's so investment into new casinos in Vegas was essentially non existent. From MGM Grand 1973 to the Mirage in 1989 there wasn't really any significant casino built.

I liked Vegas in the 80's best. The old Vegas was giving way to a new, more luxurious Vegas, but had not yet gone overboard as it is today.

I was there my first trip I had a 1962 Chevy impala 2 door we went to palm springs then over to Vegas we had so muck fun they really took care of you then we didn’t buy much outher them N we’ll 😆

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand what/whom the orator was describing. They’ll never be another place like “ old “ style Las Vegas built again. A wonderful by gone era.

Amazing work! This was very well done. The Xanadu is the concept I really wish happened. What a great design. Instead they built the biggest eyesore on the strip.

The architecture somewhat reminds me of the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World in Florida.

wow the map, i didn't know the Tropicana had a golf course at one time. Wow those suites are huge prices at 8:30. Wow Howard hughs was really forward thinking on snapping up Strip land. Wow the Xanadu was really influential to casino design in vegas. AMazing Wynn story of his start and investments. This was fascinating and well put together Kev. 💯💯

Thank you, Howard didn't like the mob and also didn't like crowds (severe case of germaphobia) so he bought strip land and kept it vacant. When Hughes moved to Vegas he had just sold TWA and had about $500M in cash in the late 1960's. His accountant said that he would have to pay income tax on the $ 500M unless he bought something so that is also why he bought a bunch of casinos and Vegas land.
