Thanks for the clear tutorial. I appreciate that you skip the repetitive parts. If I need to see something again, I can rewind or rewatch.

This is an incredibly useful tutorial, thank you so much. I've previously designed and made a laser cut box (an arcade controller), but I did that "manually" in Inkscape by designing the parts separately. When I decided to make a dice tower I wanted to learn how to do so in a 3D package like FreeCAD. This tutorial is almost word for word what I needed.

Thanks. Very useful tutorial. Planning to use these steps for my next project

This is a perfect intro for a noob like me. I've never worked with a CAD program but this got the ball rolling!!!

Very interesting. Looking forward to the continuation. I usually find it hard to remember the alias so I have developed a method that helps me. Each alias begins with x_. For example, x_width, x_length and so on. When I type Spreadsheet.x_, a list of all aliases will be displayed.

Very nice tutorial! However, I am struggling with creating the pockets for the floor tabs. You draw reference lines for the angular alignment and the middle symmetry and leave them in place, after drawing the rectangles for the tab pockets, then you create the pockets through all. However, if I try to pocket it, I get an error message, that it is not possible. Deleting the reference lines makes it work. I am using version 0.19, has this changed from 0.18. Should I use Datum Lines instead for reference lines?

Support in youtube comments is really hard. No pictures, no attachments, etc. My first guess is that you added the reference line as regular geometry. Is it dark blue? If that's not it, please post on the forum and share your file.

@@sliptonic Thank's for the right pointer, I drew a solid line. I've figured it out! :)

Love it! You zipped thru the selection of references for the floor a little fast. I've watched the video 3 times trying to pick up the details. Do you talk about using reference geometry on any other video?

I don't think I've addressed it specifically in a video before. I cover it at length in the the book though.

Assembly is very difficult and complicated which is why FreeCAD still doesn't have its own assembly workbench. Assembly 3 is promising and will probably get a much closer look after v018 is released. The author is maintaining a fork with it now so it can be tested if you're willing to compile it yourself.

Great Video. How do I show the 3d box in the upper right corner?
5 лет назад
that is only available in the v0.18 builds. (daily builds) (he mentions that he uses this at the beginning)

Thanks for this nice introduction! most of my projects are a little bit trickier than that ;-) for lasercut things i try to stay in an 2d thinking - so i would have done the tabs from the same perspective like the plate itself was drawn. thats also because i think i have read somwhere that it is saver to reference a basic sketch that is not mapped to a side... a complicated finger-joint box i have done is at github.com/s-light/BreadBoardBox it is not super clean from the workflow.. as i did learn and changed my approach at some point ;-) thanks for the detailed videos you create! (i learned today how i can get rid of the extra lines ;-) → refine! )
