Making your own head tube badges would be seriously cool

I’d really like to see a paisley pattern etched onto a mech hanger 😎

That's amazing..... You could do bike badges on coloured anodized plate like that first card you did to stick on our bikes. It would be awesome to replace replace boring old damaged brand stickers on your head stock :D (Metal Save Old Bikes Head stock badges there's an idea...🤔) P.S id take a red one to replace my old brand sticker and make my bike POP! 😅lol jokes aside. I cant wait to see what you do next 😁👍

K...How about you take thin sheet metal and engrave 2nd life, proper crusty, bulky boys, what have you, within say, a 2 inch by 3 inch rectangle. Snip it out and using an old, bare headtube as a mandrel form into a curve with a rubber mallet. Now you've got a headbadge you could mount with a little J B Weld.

From a business pov, if you're planning to make batches rather than one-off custom jobs, top-caps are a very universal product, i'e modern road bikes, hybrids and MTBs all have 1 1/8 top caps, no matter the size of the bottom bearings They're also not really structural, once the headset is preloaded and the stem tight on the steerer you could remove it as it's not (supposed to be) bearing any load, so even if you have a high performance bike, a BrandX top cap will function just as well as a Chris King. A mate of mine had access to a laser cutter (for thin materials, mostly card and plastic I think?) at work in his last job. At higher power settings it could cut through layers on top of aluminium at least (paint, anodising etc) so we bought some plain black 1"1/8 BrandX top-caps from CRC and made some custom ones, both my bike's now say "Wonble Till I Die" 👍 Edit: If you do one-off jobs on custom components you'll find you spend a lot of time setting up the machine/alignment each time. If you want to sell bespoke top-caps you can make a jig that will work with all top caps, holding it in the same place every time, all you have to do is change the text/font in your designs, maybe tweak the kerning and send the vector data to the machine.

see if you can get anodized dork discs
@oheso

I've been wondering about dork discs that display a pattern at speed -- if it would need to be active (e.g., LED) or if something could be worked out with passive (just the shape of the material). For the latter, this sort of thing would be genius.

As a hobby framebuilder, this is very interesting. I’d love to be able to etch a logo on a head tube or down tube.

I would like it for accent parts like. Bar stem caps, grip caps, chain stay chain protector, headbadge... I like to name my bikes, so maybe a top tube nick name badge. Super cool adition to bike customization

If you do a seat post, you could make a cradle for it to hold it level and simply rotate the post if you have a design which wraps around?

Doing a head badge directly on the headtube would be a challenge for geometric reasons on all but the largest frame sizes, but you could of course do custom head badges. Different medium and scale, but Blue Lug here in Tokyo do handlebar wraps and chain protectors using various grades of nylon cord. The results are gorgeous. www.youtube.com/@bluelugbikeshop
