It was literally so horrible, I do laser in my face for that zone too and my face looks smooth and plump after each treatment (as it should!!!) They ask me to shave but they also ask me to bring a new razor so they can shave me if they notice I missed any spots, they also don't just apply the laser straight up!! They apply a gel first and they constantly ask me if it hurts anything
This is so bad i had to close my eyes a bit, no one deserve this TREATMENT (pun intended) Everyone should always research before going to a beauty clinic just in case but also the doctors (or whatever we call them im sorry) should explain to the clients every details with what they're getting.
It's not supposed to feel good. When you sign up for this... you ought to know there will be some pain. I mean... who believed burning their hair follicles out was going to be enjoyable?
It’s not supposed to be excruciatingly painful, there might be some slight discomfort. Although that shouldn’t be from improper care to the patient or client, risking their health and well-being by being careless.
@@aalyyy. No. The entire comment thread went over yours. If you still can't figure it out... I don't blame you. I mean... you still haven't figured it out that brown isn't your color... and you definitely shouldn't be wearing things that accentuate your problems.
I just got my 13th laser hair removal treatment and the results have been getting worse; the hair seems to be growing back faster and thicker than before. This is unfortunately a common occurrence and should be talked about more.
I have done this before too, but instead of it getting worse nothing changed at least i think, the lady told me its just seems worse bc it looked better when i did it and after it grew it makes it look worse idk she said that when i pointed out that i feel like the hair is getting worse i also got an allergic reaction, its probably bc the lazer ur getting isnt strong enough after going to my dermatologist to do it its sooo much better bc they have a stronger lazer machine which is more gental, now its been 2-3 months and i still have no hair growning maybe u just need to find someone else to do it!@@LEELOLKH
That’s a bit extreme. We’re talking about someone’s potential livelihood. Perhaps a stern warning a threat and or temp suspension of said license until they are retrained and can pass certain tests/certifications. I agree in that the esthetician should have known better. Like come’on… for real. WTH
My friends that did these were told to specifically not shave or anything because either way the hair will be coming off on its own, and this was only a couple of years ago.😨
Med spa sounds dumb. If um at the doctor lets not pussy foot around like its a relaxing vacation. Test me out check me out I do a lot of crazy stuff i fall over i ride motorcycles I am willing to do some sketchy things sometimes, check me over for shrapnel, check me over for bruises or spots i didnt notive. Feel for lumps that shouldnt be there. Lets get it overwith time is money i cant afford to be there all day man the doctor has to clear me so he can save the next guy or even just notice if im one of the ones that needs saved for some reason
I had burns once but not due to not shaving. I remember telling my therapist that the session felt exceptionally painful. I asked if she could check the machine settings. She dismissed me and said that the pain was normal and that maybe my discomfort was due to my period coming soon. I go home and over time notice perfect rectangular line burns all over my legs. I of course called to explain and they asked if they could see the burns in person as proof. When I went back they admitted that after checking the machine, something was in fact wrong with it. They gave me the rest of my sessions free but I was too turned off by the experience to go back there. Since then, I bought a Phillips Lumea and have been really happy with it.
@@luciaayaso2260 it’s not because of being a woman in this instance, as the hair removal tech was also a women. And most hair removal techs are women. Unless you’re implying that women hate women? Then it’s an US problem.
To be honest, I don't have good relationships with women. Not even my own mother. Just my own experience, but I ve seen women be fake and mean to one another my entire life. Maybe one day, my outlook will change. Hope I didn't offend you. Your experience just made me think about some of my own. With no specific gender in mind, only that it is a real problem women face not being taken seriously enough when we express feelings of concern etc.
@@pinkbombshellcasing2672First time hearing about someone being sexist towards their own sex? Men do it all the time, women also do it all the time. Sexism doesn't have to come from the opposite sex. For a quick example a father shaming his son for being a stay at home dad when his wife is making enough "because it's a man's duty to make money" that's also sexist, the offender being the same sex as the victim doesn't change that
Also please make sure if you are darker skinned woman you get the RIGHT laser and settings!! It could be the difference between smooth skin and burns!!
Also for my dark skin queens make sure that their website or social media page shows models or customers of all shades. That tells me if they had patients with same skin tone as me and I can also rely on their reviews or not.
This was just terrible to look at! I don't know what to believe. A provider who doesn't understand that this is harming the client's skin, or knows but doesn't care? Aweful no matter what.
exfoliating in between sessions really helped when I thought my hair wasn't reducing anymore...but it all depends on the individual...tbf I'm not seeing anymore reduction in the more stubbon areas so I'm going to have to find something else after my prepaid sessions are over
I think that's why the at home ones are so great, fraction of the cost (I got mine for about 45E) and you can check if it works. It worked great on some areas and others it didn't but having some areas with extreme reduction was certainly worth that money. Plus I don't have pale skin so I wasn't sure if it would work on mine. It didn't hurt either, some discomfort maybe. I think those stronger salon lasers probably hurt more.
@@rni4069 I'd say coffee with milk and my hair is brown black. I had no issues with the laser targetting my skin but I did sometimes hit a dark freckle and you'd feel that so if your skintone is actually dark brown I wouldn't try an at home laser. I tried it at a lower setting first and then at the highest and I could do upto three passes without an issue. It does get kind of hot so having a fan on you is nice. I did make sure when I bought mine that the reviews were good and it had a really high flash number for the price, some of the same price point wil have less flashes. It's still going strong for me.
@@Ifliethe ones at home aren’t the same. You can’t get a candela laser at home for example. I’m middle eastern & literally had legs that were more hairy than some men, 12 sessions of laser and I have almost nothing now. My last sessions was 2-3 yrs ago. But my skin is lighter and I have dark hair, so I was a better candidate.
Medical malpractice I think we need to be more careful about it. It really scares me creeps me out seeing surgeons actually inverting mens penises etc. This isnt what healthcare is about man
I got my facial laser treatment when I was 15. She burned my upper lip and the side of my face. Now I am 26 with those burn patches. And it's hurt me whenever I see my face. I'll never forgive her
You can wax your hair 10 days prior to a laser hair removal session, because the hair will be in the anagen phase and it's the best one to destroy the hair and not grow back. You can literally save up to 50% of the sessions you were counting on.
I've been looking into getting an at-home IPL device, I'm slavic and tired of the hair and near daily shaving, thank you for the gel barrier info, I haven't heard anyone else mention that!
For info, the intensity is lower than in an institution so you may not have the results u want usually its advice to use it as a "bonus" for the hair that are still there after u did ur sessions
Im not a professional but i would be very concerned with doing at home laser on my face. It feels very scary when near the eyes. even with eye protection the light was so bright and i felt maybe the eye protection not strong enough lol. I only ever went to get professional treatment for a year. And that didnt work for me on my face. I started electrolysis now instead... I did buy an at home laser though even though it probably wont work given my experience... I want to try my legs and rest of body at home.. it was a cheap deal from amazon so it didnt seem like a bad idea.... even then im concern3d but the face seems the most concerning to DIY
I am not skin specialist but that person who is skin rubbing after burning it needs serious consequences! Just stop it! People want help with something doesn't mean they sign up for torture!
Oh lord this video stressed me out!!!! I’m so happy you’re speaking up on this. I have seen videos around like this and I don’t understand how there are so many untrained technicians out there.
I can give u an answer as someone who is using the light pulse technique for my legs. So, the gel (5°C) is put to avoid burn because the machine is very hot when it is used. After the technician pass once it is removed. For info, u dont pass twice the same place even with the gel because it will cause burns. Hope you got help
This is 100 correct! She should have been instructed to shave no later than day before. I have scars to show for this and no one else should have go through years of hyperpigmentation due to sheer negligence.
The lack of eye protection is INSANE??? I get laser done and if I miss a spot they always shave it for me there when they find it (dry shave, so do your best before you go). Always have the have my glasses on even tho I don’t get laser on my upper body and absolutely NO rubbing. A cooling spray ejects right before the laser so it hurts less and they press real hard after each one for limited pain so it’s really not that painful at all. Much less painful than waxing (but having the cooling spray is dependent on the place). NO numbing cream, my technician told me they hate it bc they can’t tell if the power on the laser is too strong or not because they increase it every time with test spots. If you can’t feel it it might be too strong and burn you. And they always offer aloe Vera at the end, but it’s not completely necessary just a nice feeling at the end as the cooling spray basically does the job for me. If any of these things besides the cooling spray and aloe do not line up with a place you’re looking into, DO NOR do it. The general manager was telling me she wasted so much money on laser and when she came to the one I go to she finally saw a difference because the other ones were fake flops. I go to Milan Laser in the US, if anyone is curious, personally better than LaserAway.
I had one experience with laser and never again. I grew damn hair I never had .. the best electrolysis that’s permanent but hurt but lasts a lifetime literally
@@nevermindmine should be fine as it doesn’t touch the skin . They put a light electro clip thing on each hair strand and electrical current goes all the way to the root and bye bye hair. But it does take a lot of time as they will need to catch the hair cycle to get it. Do not shave the hair as they need to see the hair to get it. It does hurt but no pain no gain though
I got these treatment some years ago, and the instructions specifically were NOT to shave. The dermatologist did give me eye protection, though. Not all laser treatments work the same way, at least I never shave as they told me not to do so, and I never had any skin burns.
i recently had to get rid of my body hair for the first time as i was going to an international school and my parents thought i would be bullied for it and they told i needed to get rid of it my mom suggest the laser hair removal saying you soon will only have to do it once every 6 months but she never had done it before, she waxed so she had no hair and tried it out, and felt nothing, and told it was safe for me but keep in mind, i had never removed my body hair before so yes when she started doing i could feel a small burning sensation and eventually it started getting more painful the more she did and i told her it was burning, she told me I was fine, and then eventually, when she did another zap i got badly burned and bursted out crying, she immediatly stopped and appologized and then just shaved the rest cause i was in tremendoes pain, by the next day you could see this huge burnt mark on my arm, its been 3 weeks and i still have it but its healing, my mom feels bad but if only she saw this video
Well if its burn then u are reacting to it and its a no-no for you 😔 i do light pulse for my legs and i do test on my skin every session and if its show reaction u can forget it, the technician wont continue
@@saadiaarfak7081 Yes; this is obviously an averse reaction to which treatment was ceased. My question was about how to treat laser burns. You might have misunderstood :)
I feel so bad for her. She probably has pcos and because of the insecurity she wanted to go have it removed and probably didnt have enough money for a professional so she settled for this person which clearly has no idea what theyre doing
Stopping retinoids would be ideal: Retinoid products accelerate skin cell turnover, so they have sort of an exfoliating function - this means that the top, dead layer of skin is constantly being removed and the underneath layers are exposed to the elements. This makes your skin more sensitive and likely to be sunburned (this is also why retinoids are meant to be used at night and it's highly recommended to wear SPF during the day) - bc the laser is also doing additional damage to the skin and makes people more likely to sunburn it may just be too much for the skin to handle and increases your chances of being burned by both the laser and the sun.
@@safyre1704great answer! I was just thinking it’s because it makes the skin more sensitive. Do you think the same rules would apply to vitamin C and acids (AHA, BHA, LHA)?
@@nenamichelle I hesitate to give a full on answer because I'm not a derm, I just worked in beauty retail for a decade. But overall yes, acids generally have an exfoliating function. That said some are gentler than others and can be used during the day when paired with SPF (Vit. C and salicylic acid, for instance; or alternatively lactic acid tends to be gentler than glycolic even though both are AHAs). If you're getting any kind of procedure done I would consult with the clinic or practitioner doing the procedure as to best practices to be prepared and minimize any potential skin damage.
I was always told NOT to shave before a treatment, and to not even cut my hair with the scissors for some reason. I was also told that shaving it would make it grow thicker, which I always thought was a myth. Needless to say, it only worked for a while. my facial hair came back after about a month. Super disappointed:(

@@XpetraXpazlX But I have PCOS:( and the hairs are already dark and thick. Btw, have you tried electrolysis by any chance? I’ve been thinking of that as a solution. I’m currently shaving my face pretty much everyday, or I have a neckbeard and a mustache :((
Omg it's painful enough without all these fails. My technicians did everything right and so far still hurts alot, I can't imagine how much pain this video caused her
Thanks. We went to 2 different places and the first place didn't say anything about shaving and yes, the place smell so strong of burnt hair. :( Do you shave right before or at least 2 days before so you have some hair growth so the laser can pick up where the hairs are ? Do IPL remove hair permantly ?
I have a IPL laser from Brown at home, the newest one as I got it almost free as a tester. I always shave right before using machine to have them as short as possible. The laser should burn the root of hair (therefore on longer hair will not be effective). You really need lot of patience and do this every week for at least 3-4 months. First improvements visible after 4-6 weeks. It definetely reduces hair growth and slows it. Hair gets weaker or dissapear. Even if all hair are gone in the area they might reapear after several months or the hairgrowth can come back after things as pregnancy, ilness. It is definetely still nicee than wax or shaving.
Hi, at the beauty clinic I go to, the nurse will be shaving down our hair on the spot to the correct length (around half-1cm left) and we're not allowed to shave 1 week prior. Although after my first appointment, I didn't even bother to shave at all anymore since the hair growth had slowed down a lot. After shaving, they'd apply a gel to protect our skin from the heat so we won't get burned and it only feels warm on the first couple of sessions. I was on my 5th session last week and I don't feel anything anymore because the amount of hair has lessened significantly so there's barely anything the ipl could target other than a few strands. It's semi-permanent, the doctor said that when pregnant, the hair might return due to hormone fluctuations. But otherwise, you're set for life after 6-12 sessions most of the time. Context about my type of body: I have a medium skin tone and black fine hair
I guess it depends of the laser but I guess it should be not hair at all because it burns you dont want that burn hair, they burn the root inside, but again not all lasers are the same so investigate the best laser and how they are used
My technician always helps with the shaves even if I shaved before coming. She gives me eye protectors but no gel, she changed her machine a few years back that doesn’t use gel barrier. I go to her for years (changing body parts to laser) and she is always kind and ask if it’s too painful.
ARNP here working in Medspas, she 200% correct!! Id also add that IPL shouldnt be used for laser hair removal bcuz its a, not a LASER and b, its OLD technology. IPL has its place, and for what it does it does a good job, but hair removal is not it!! Always ask what machine they are using before you buy a package of treatments, make sure it isnt IPL. Make sure they clarify its NOT an IPL. Yag and Diode are the best lasers for hair removal, its the type of laser not a brand, HTH!!
as a person with hella sensitive skin barrier after years of acne trauma and is scared to even touch their own face...this literally sends shivers down my spine
This is why I decided to go with a dermatologist to get my hair laser removal is expensive but at the end of the day they are professional on the human skin.
What kind of gel barrier are you talking about with ipl? And what if we don't use anything, will it be bad for the skin? Cause usually they recommend to just shave and ipl.
I get laser hair removal on my face and right when I saw that the hair wasn’t shaven or she wasn’t wearing any eye protection on her I was like nooooo. 🤦🏻♀️
Aaaaah her poor skin!! Even I saw the burn after the first pulse, I can't believe these people kept going! And then that super rough rubbing on the fresh burn 😢😨
🤩Thanks for giving tips on the right way to beauty. Do you have any tips for the type of laser you could try if you have a darker pigment? Is there anything good out there yet? I have good skin and don’t want scarring from the wrong treatment
What a crazy coincidence that this video popped up! I literally just got an at home laser hair removal device and was thinking I needed to grow my leg hair out! Not that I wouldn’t have done research before using it, but I’m glad to have this question answered!
What about moving the hairs with a rolling tread, like the way it's done in so many Eastern countries ? No burning or side effects. Except the hair grows out again after a while. Would love to hear your opinion.
I'd like to know which technology is the most effective. I've wasted money in the past with a clinic where I went regularly and never saw any results and then I went to this other place and 2-3 sessions later, I was practically hairless. I wanna try other areas, as I only did the legs, but fear wasting money again.
I just got my 13th laser hair removal treatment and the results have been getting worse; the hair seems to be growing back faster and thicker than before. This is unfortunately a common occurrence and should be talked about more.
People seem to be confused about whether to shave or not. I just started laser hair removal sessions and they informed me to shave 24 hours prior. I also Googled it prior to my first session and every source on Google says to shave 24 hours prior. The reason is because shaving reduces the risk of burns, blisters, and inflammation. You don't want the heat from the laser to be absorbed too much by hair above the skin. It's common sense when you think about it. The laser is supposed to target the hair follicles that produce the hair. So, get the hair above the skin out of the way so the laser can do it's job efficiently. If the laser is targeting the hair above the skin you may have negative results, whether it's burning, blisters, irritation and redness or it may take longer for you to see those results you want. Why risk it?
I got burned years ago from this. I'm still trying to get my skin back to normal. A new skin layer covers the hair folical, causing ingrown hairs under the skin. The area is very dark and textured people of color be very cautious when doing this procedure.
I have hope IPL and it is soooo perfect! I have sensitive skip but no issues with this. Now I shave once in few weeks only before the "treatment". It is ideal for people with pale/ white skin and black hair.
I agree with everything she said except the gel part. There are modern ipl devices with cooling system and doesnt require using gel. Ofc you can still do that for better safety, but it’s not a must thing to do for some of these ipl devices.
I have an at home laser remover and i instantly knew what was wrong. You shouldnt EVER see your skin visually burn and smoke while using a laser. Always shave before using it, no harsh rubbing, don't go over the same areas more than oncein a session
I've literally only had 1 session of laser hair removal and even I know better than what was going on in the video. As soon as I saw it, I was appalled. Where I go, they made a point to inform me about the procedure, what it would be like, how to reduce the odds of unwanted side effects, preparation/protection, etc.
