As a clinical esthetician, I love your content & find it immeasurably helpful. Particularly your info on lasers & what to expect afterward, are so useful to me when explaining to clients.
Thank you Dr. Dray! After throwing tons of money into high-end skincare in an attempt to get rid of hyperpigmentation, I finally realized my folly. I now adhere to what you advise, and my next step will be to follow up with laser treatment if I'm a candidate. Btw, dermatologist Dr. Davin Lim also a has a channel here with excellent content focusing on lasers, fillers, energy devices and surgery. It's very helpful to learn more about the various options!
Thank you for educating us on all the different types of laser treatments, and talking about the pain levels associated with these. I knew someone who got laser for rosacea, and she was in pain for MANY days and her face was bright red all that time. She didn't actually complete the treatments because of the pain of the first one. Also, she didn't see a huge benefit. I'm thinking she got one of the old school treatments, not even the right kind for her condition!
I received two laser treatments recently. I carefully chose my board certified dermatologist and reviewed his credentials. We discussed the process carefully and the aftercare. He recommended petrolatum and mineral sunscreen. Burst capillaries, redness, and brown spots gone! I also had a few thicken spots on my forehead from rosacea removed. I’m so happy with the results!
www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07DB6ZX26/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I bought this from amazon and it worked very well on my facial face hair, they gone for good.
I was pitched on the idea of a BBL + Halo treatment. I am worried about thinning of the skin, scarring and and worried that, if doing the full face, some of my beard could stop growing. A beard that doesn't grow might look pretty strange.
I want to get a laser this year, I hate my disgusting acne scars!! I had a fraxel years ago and it helped but it was before I got my acne under control and I just got more scars! I truly appreciate that you are a compassionate dermatologist and you have always understood how traumatic acne can be even after it is gone!!😀
@@DrDrayzday no ?! yikes , i start laser treatments next week for severe atrophic acne scars. my cystic acne is gone but i still am prone to a little mild acne here & there. my laser specialist is doing IPL as well as fraxel 1550.
It sounds like the older CO2 might be the best for anti aging even if it has a longer downtime. Is it better than the newer fractionated laser? Thank you.
Thanks for the great content. I am revisiting this as I ponder another treatment for sun damage. When you said it feels like a hot rubber band flicking you I died, I have explained it as that since my first one a few years back. Now that I am more diligent about sun care I get these much less often. Thanks for all of the explanations!
One of the youtubers talked about the safety of the tretinon creams available on market, saying that there are toxic chemicals added to the retnioc acid itself, appreciate your take on this. Many thanks!
Dr. Dray, would you comment more on Vascular Lasers and/or Pulse Dye Lasers for the treatment of the appearance of broken capillaries and a few small acne scars? Also what is the general pain level of this procedure? And what is the average down time for this procedure? Thank you. I enjoy your channel and the products you share, and the links on where to find products.
Enjoy the perspective of a real doctor, thank you! Would love to have seen the actual devices in your office with a willing subject going through the procedures; pictures immediately s/p procedures; the final results, etc. Still a great discussion, thx! 😊 💜
Hi 🙋Dr. Dray! You are definitely a gem to have on RU-vid✨ Thank you for making videos that are educational and very helpful!🎉 Love how you discuss issues in a way that we can all understand👍 Keep making these fantastic videos because I know that they are helping many of us!😊 Appreciate you immensely! 💖💖
At 6:21 you state that Er:YAG and CO2 lasers have been replaced by fractionated lasers; the reality is that Er:YAG and CO2 lasers can be "full field" or "fractionated" .
Yes on the laser hair removal!! Thank you for the information (again!). I walk away from these videos with a new tidbit of info everyday and that makes my nerd heart so happy. Hope the rest of your week goes well, Doctor! :)
Hi Dr. Dray. Do you have any information on facial volume loss in association with the use of lasers? I've heard about people lossing facial fat/volume from therapies that heat the issues and end up looking older.
Can you potentially address IPL versus V-Beam for those with redness due to rosacea (generalized redness, not broken capillaries)? If I remember correctly I don't think it was mentioned in your rosacea video. Love your stuff + really appreciate you putting your content out there!
Vbeam is universally better for rosacea/redness as proven in many studies. Best settings for rosacea are 0.45ms pulse duration and 4-5.5 Joules with 10mm spot size or 1.5ms pulse duration and 4.5-6.5 Joules with 10mm spot size.
Thanks for this!! And yes a chat about laser hair removal would be great - especially the types for the face and whether it can cause facial hair to grow back worse like I've read!
I had fraxel dual laser done one month ago. My derm recommendeds two or three of these treatments for best results, only because I am older and my skin damage is pretty severe: pre-cancers, some small basal cell cancers, and brown age spots. After the first fraxel treatment I can already see some improvement in all the above conditions, as well as fine wrinkle reduction. I had about 8 days down time while my skin peeled. Pain was very minimal with the numbing cream applied before the procedure. I look forward to completing my laser series, and I am being religious about sunscreen and retinol every day.
So informative and interesting. As a skincare junkie I have undertaken both Fraxel and V Beam lasers. Fraxel was very painful but well worth it - my skin looked incredible the following month ( my downtime was 1 week as I had a deep version) V Beam was the only laser that worked on my thread veins as you suggest. IPL did nothing for me. Thank you for sharing your incredible knowledge x
So this has nothing to do with the video, but I wanted to ask if you could do a video about very dry lips and suggestions on lip balms to use. Thanks 😊
I listened to another derm video on this last night. The likelihood the collagen in a powder will actually make it into your skin is very very low. And even if it did make it there, it would have to work with the complicated way our skin manufactures collagen. However, if you are amino acid deficient then supplementing can help body function that in turn could have a positive affect on your skin.
Hi dr Dray. Thank you so much, very useful video. I have done fractional laser on around the eye area to improve the area as had really deep lines there . Initially 3 treatments then twice a year to keep results. The results have been amazing. And the more treatments I do the better is that area. I put a numbing cream before and take a painkiller and it is really not so bad at all. They also give a cortisone shot to speed up the recovery. The treatment has been a miracle and a great alternative to botox which I really didn't want to do. Thanks again. Looking forward to your videos as usual!
I just had my 2nd IPL rejuvenation session! I was actually surprised that it doesn't hurt and the machine here doesn't need any numbing cream to reduce the pain unlike the videos I've watched in YT.
Thanks for this video! I have several spidery blood vessels on one of my cheeks that is visually noticable and makes me really self-conscious about it, and I have been wanting to know how to get rid of them.
Can you specifically talk about under eye laser sometime? I’m really interested in what you have to say about treating under eye wrinkles with laser resurfacing
Just started a new job in an office with big windows & lots of sunshine... to celebrate the new position, I ordered myself 2 Coolibar cardigans! Can’t wait to receive them :) Also, you mentioned spider veins briefly, and I would love to hear some information of causes/prevention/treatment of those. Thank you!
Thumbs Up!! Had to go get my (Amazing day with Dr Dray) notebook out to write down all this great information!!! Thanks a bunch!! I’m not quite willing to jump on the laser table yet (fear of the unknown) but always think about doing at some point! If only I could go back in time and wear sunscreen and stop picking...UGH (picking pimples is still so hard not to do/feels better after a good squeeze but the inflamed spot Is right there looking back at me!!! Have a great Wednesday!!
What kind of laser do you use on 65 yr olds with some brown spots and some sagging skin? Is it ok to use lasers for older people, can we still produce collagen?
How often can you get an IPL? My aesthetician (at my plastic surgeon's office) said I can do it quarterly for maintenance, however my husband who is a physician said that is way too much and will damage my skin.
It depends on the skin concern being treated and the wavelength. Several sessions are needed for things like photodamage on the neck, but "maintenance" is more about you using photoprotection to maintain the outcome the ipl sessions achieved
Thank you for your content - it's so nice to have an unbiased, scientific source. I am 35 years old with post acne hyperpigmintation (a revolving issue since I was about 25 when the spots started to take longer to fade), some minor sun damage, and did have melasma during my pregnancy 7 years ago. The office I go to for botox recommended I try the Clear & Brilliant laser for my discoloration complaints (I already use great sun screen, prescription retin a and hq on and off and have for many years). Do you think it's worth a try, or a waste of money? Thanks!
Hi Dr Dray , I’ve been recommended clear & brilliant to treat similar issues (pigmentation, melasma, sun damage). Is Clear & Brilliant not an effective laser? The shorter downtime compared to a stronger laser seems like an advantage, but if it’s not effective at removing pigmentation and melasma I don’t see any point in undergoing treatment with Clear & Brilliant. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you for the great information, I have been waiting for you to do this video since you mentioned it! I never thought of making sure to get the "all clear" from a dermatologist before getting laser treatment, so smart. I will do just that before proceeding on with laser therapy. Warm wishes from the north!
The old type of laser hair removal felt like a snapping rubber band. This worked for me. But when they changed to light therapy it never worked and gave me hyperpigmentation!!!! So I would warn others - I’m fair skinned with UK ancestry but go olive tanned in summer. It’s not just people of colour that need to be concerned
Hi Dr. Dray- New subscriber here!! I love your videos, as they’ve taught me soooo much! I do have a quick question though... Would you recommend IPL Laser for Melasma? If not, would you recommend any other laser? Thanks so much!
I’m so happy I found you. You are a mine of information and I just love to listen to your RU-vid videos. I’m 59yrs from the uk with olive skin and have been using cerave products for 4yrs since we started holidaying in Florida. I also started to buy differin when it became available over the counter, but after listening to one of your Q&A’s, found that this will not really be of use to someone of my age. My skin it’s pretty much clear of brown spots but perhaps a little saggy with open pores. Can you please advise what would be useful for woman of my age and skin type. Thank you so much in advance and thanks again for your informative videos. .
Dr. Dray, I notice the Snow White Cream contains mineral oil. I’ve always heard that was not a good ingredient in skin care products. What do you think? I find your videos SO helpful! Thank you! :)
Had mine six months ago and love it !!! Getting my second next week for a little tweaking but doing the entire face again. However I have noticed two small white blotches on one of my cheeks maybe some hypopigmentation. I am very fair. Will this resolve itself or get worse with the second treatment? Thanks doc
I love your videos Dr.Dray and continue learning so much from them. Thank you for sharing your expert opinions. What do you think about Ultherapy? Drs are talking very positive about this technology but some consumer have had very bad experience.
It's always great to know all about what's out in the dermatologist world....it grows every month and year...have you seen the NIRA yet I'm sure you have and your option on it as far as could it really happen...thank you for caring and sharing..please say hello to your sweet mom💞🙏🙏🙏🙏
Your video was soo helpful. I just started doing IPL for rosacea only one so far tomorrow is my second and hoping to see some difference after the 2nd treatment. Have you performed many IpL for rosacea?
Thanks for this info on lasers! Since you told us you were publishing this video on your Wednesday "Cosmetic Corner", I've been counting the days like a little kid.......really! lol! I would LOVE a video on laser hair removal. And Botox. And fillers. And all cosmetic procedures you can think of! 😃👍😃👍. I so appreciate you making us educated consumers! We are so fortunate to have a Board Certified Dermatologist teaching us and replying to our comments every day of the week. (And I'm not forgetting about the recipes, weekends with you and your mom, and everything else you include in your videos.) Thanks doc! Rita
Dr dray! Thank you for so much information. Would you recommend fraxl laser for hyperpigmentation and dark/sun spots? My face is a bit darker than my body because I always covered my body but not my face from the sun. I live in a Tiny island and there’s only one dermatologist and that’s the only laser she has. Would love to hear your thoughts
I have a CO2 laser surgery scheduled soon. It has the ability to be fractional or ablative. She is a well respected head and neck surgeon who has done fellowships in cosmetic surgery. Fingers crossed.
I'm due to receive fully ablative co2 laser in one month for acne scars & I'm absolutely terrified. I've gotten 4 fractional laser treatments done with mild improvement in scarring but I'm so sick of these scars that I'm seeking a more dramatic effect. Since hardly anyone performs fully ablative lasers anymore, the only person near me who does it is a medical doctor (not a dermatologist. ) He said he performs about 2 per week & has never had a client whose experienced negative side effects. I'm just so nervous 😓 😟
Hi Andrea! Loved this video, as usual. ❤️ You are just amazing. I have truly enoyed this series! Wondering if you could add 2 videos to your list? One on sebaceous hyperplasia (my issue) and another for teens (my issue also lol). Speaking to teens about sunscreen and why it is so important to start wearing it daily, even at their age. I have twin boys, almost 17 years old, and I am pulling my hair out trying to get them to understand why. Their grandpa having skin cancer isn't even enough. Plus they have fair skin, have been burned before, and have a significant amount of moles already. They say "oh it's winter". They don't understand snow reflects light right back into the car at their face! Of course they know everything right now..but maybe a video just for teens/tweens to watch in "teenspeak" would be good? What do you think?
Dr. Dray! Here is product rec for u. The tinted sunscreen from Thinksport face everyday, which is s budget alternative than the elda md, and it also has iron oxide in addition to zinc oxide!
What would you recommend for enlarged pores and uneven skin texture. I'm 19 and started Retinol about a month ago to help with it but would like a little push.
Hello Dr. Dray, I am wondering if Lasers are preventative when it comes to aging and wrinkle formation? I have heard a few dermatologist say this but cannot find credible information confirming this online.
Thank you so much! Very informative! Does the IPL laser for broken blood vessels/redness from rosacea also help with the occasional small papules? thank you
Hi Dr. Dray! I know this video is not recent but it has been so helpful for me right now! Yesterday I had a Revlite (Q-switched) laser session performed by my dermatologist to target hyperpigmentation in my face. She gave me all the recommendations you are mentioning, but even though she said it would take some days to see the results, it was really reassuring listening to you explaining exactly what is happening to my skin (my face was red for about 30 minutes after the laser session and right now I have bigger darker marks were the spots used to be... I am waiting for those to peel). Thank you!
@@underthemooon Hi! In my case, it took about 4-6 days for the spots to become scabby and then go away. Now they are completely off. My doctor checked everything was fine and my skin was great for about a week... I was so glad! But now I am worried because some of the brown spots are coming back even though I have been applying sunscreen every 2 hours and have avoided sun exposure (hats with SPF included). I am afraid I might be experiencing post-laser hyperpigmentation... I have read it happens to some people... Anyway, I will see my dermatologist again in a couple of weeks. Good luck with your hands!
@@m.graciela1652 Thank you so much for your reply! My Derm said that sometimes certain spots may come back after the first treatment and that they could go over it with the laser again for a second time in those cases. I've been wearing tons of spf too but mostly I cover up. I'm highly prone to freckling/age spots even if I wear sunscreen, so I've found that I have to wear clothing like lightweight long sleeve shirts and driving gloves in order to really prevent spots. Thanks again, and good luck to you!
Hi Dr Dray, thank you for this presentation! So informative. I may have missed this, but did you mention which kind of laser is effective in shrinking large pores? I have a strawberry nose. Terrible.
Thank you!! I’m scheduled for picosure laser in 2 weeks. I have a fair complexion and very little hyperpigmentation, but my hope is that it’ll refresh my skin and help with fine lines and wrinkles. Do you think I should consider a different laser for what I’m wanting? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!💖
This is so helpful! Thank you for such an informative video. May I make a suggestion, hopefully not to give offense. You have lovely skin, of course. But the lighting in some of your videos gives you a sallow yellow appearance, which I'm sure is not your coloring IRL. I'm no tech expert and don't know the solution, but it is something you might want to look into. Once again, thanks for all your help!
GREAT video that anyone considering laser treatment MUST watch! One of the best Dr. Dray on RU-vid! I live in the Dallas area so I have several choices for dermatology. Do your research friends! I actually have TWO dermatologist that I see. One specialist is for skin evaluation like moles and checking to see if any sun damaged spots or areas might need to be taken off and biopsied. So far no skin cancer. He is very conservative and I like that. Also charts my skin so he keeps track of any area that may change. I go at a minimum of once a year. The other dermatologist specialist is for laser treatments and other more cosmetic concerns. A few months ago I had my first Fraxel laser treatment and your description is spot on. My results are fantastic and I can't wait to have a second treatment. Because of the cost and down time, probably will schedule for 12 months from my first treatment. For me it was a week at home :). Also I would be interested in seeing a video on hair removal. Years ago I had my underarms done over I think it was 5 or 6 treatments and it has been really good. I'm considering other areas. xo xo
Thanks for spreading more of your great knowledge this week!! Ive got a Dr. Dray notebook started!!! Im loving the japaneese sunscreens you have recommended along with the elta md tinted as my last layer and the small amount of coverage it gives!! 😊
Yes! Some places that do lasers have nurses do it which can be okay for some but since my laser treatments will be to heal scaring I went to a plastic surgeon who has written scholarly journals on lasers, help develop lasers, a professor and is a graduate from Stanford University. My skin is olive so I kinda need to be SUPER picky.
Hi there, I’m wondering what your thoughts are on Laser Genesis facial treatment in particular? I don’t think you mention anything about that type of laser treatment in this video (unless you refer to it in other terms?) If you’ve touched on it before can you direct me to that video please? Ive been following you for a while & have seen many of your videos, but just don’t recall any mention of it. Is it a procedure you perform? Pros/cons? Thank you in advance!
New to your channel and currently addicted to your videos! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge in such depth and detail! Honestly wish you'd write a handbook on personal skincare so I could study without just going into Dermatology myself 😂
