I have green Crimson Trace lasers on all of my carry and home defense guns. The biggest advantage not mentioned is the ability to shoot from unusual positions without even seeing your sights. Shooting from the hip , under obstacles or from behind cover while only exposing one hand and one eye instead of having to lean out with half your body. I practice 50% w laser off just to be sure I'm proficient but Ive never had a Crimson Trace laser fail.

I see people posting, “if it fails, if it fails.” Then use the iron sights! People want to make situations so difficult! Hands down a laser is a much better aiming tool for awkward situations that may call for a shot being taken without being able to use traditional sighting. Especially at night.

I love my Crimson Trace Green. It's a great backup if I lose my glasses. Also, Iron sights, and point of aim (instinctive) shooting are great for targets in front of you, but if you are surrounded by 4 or 5 attackers in a small circle things can get complicated. The ones in front are easy (sorta), but the laser sure makes me more comfortable following up on the 2 or 3 behind me. Making a quick turn or twists to the left and right (not to mention the attackers close proximity) means there will only be time and ability to use close body point of aim. The laser will make this more sure, resulting in less 'loose lead' flying around. Nothings perfect. I chose to protect myself, and plan and train accordingly, both with and without my laser (just as I train with both my strong and weak hand). But I'll take any edge I can get.

@rowerwet
@rowerwet 3 года назад
In a threatening situation, the perp isn't going to stand there square on and wait for a shot. They'll be side on at best, probably moving sideways. A laser lets you keep your eyes on your target and the situation at large, instead of trying to align three dots on your gun. Put the bright dot on the target and pull

I wish this vid had less of an "infomercial" feel about it. I like the laser on the S&W 642 simply because not all defensive shootings are at Get Off Me range. Some are a few feet immediately after you've taken awkward cover. Not having a laser does not mean you give up, but having it does mean you don't always have to get behind your sights to try and stop the threat. Lasers are great tools, but you have to be able to use your irons. Practice.
@carlrooker
@carlrooker 4 года назад
Several people that have been commenting have been missing the point. All three Shooters did a much better job with the laser than without. There are reasons for that. When I practice, I practice with the sights and with the laser. Lasers are much better in low-light situations. They are also better when you're in combat, and cannot take the preferred shooting stance. Lasers are terrible in high light situations. In my mind, the biggest advantage of the laser is that you are concentrating on the Target, and not on your sight picture. Also, your field of view is much bigger if you are using the laser, so you are more apt to know what's going on around you.

For me.....Rock Island Armory 1911 government model, with Crimson Trace grip laser. Summer, winter, and everything in between. If it's dark, or I'm inside under artificial lights, the laser is used. In bright sunlight, I go back to iron sights. The laser is DEFINITELY worth the money you spend for it. Grew up in a "gun culture" family. Veteran U.S. Army. But....if my C.T. laser ever quits, another would be ordered the next day. Doesn't matter if you are a novice, or an expert shooter, I feel every defensive handgun needs a laser sight.

I have a laser on my pistol and I am a great believer in them, but this comparison was stacked in the laser's favor by the fact that the pistol used was of a type (.380 caliber pocket pistol) that is known for being very difficult to shoot accurately. If the pistol being used was a full-size 9mm with high contrast fiber optic or night sights, the difference between laser and non-laser would be much less dramatic.

I've heard alot of the negatives to lasers but none of them hold thier weight. 1. "Lasers are for lazies" - Who said that the fundamentals should be ignored? 2 "Can't see the laser during the day" - Why are you using a laser when you can see, identify and use your sights anyway? 3. Batteries may go out. - Really..... Come on. The battery may go out on your car but you still driving it. Keep them fresh. A pack of batteries cost 2$. 4. "Lasers are expensive" - This is the only valid argument that makes some sense. A good laser will set you back a little. But, so will anything that you believe will be dependable. Bottom line...... Lasers are tools not a crutch. Used right, they are extremely helpful. This is why military and law enforcement use them. I'm a mechanic, the more tools I have at my disposal the better off I can be.

For those mocking the use of lasers as a crutch consider a couple of points. 1. If one has a broken leg or even more to the point a leg with permanently reduced function a crutch may be just the thing that is needed. I am shall we say well aged and wear trifocals. In bright light I have very limited ability to focus clearly. In low light it is a no go. I am seriously considering the laser approach for that reason alone. 2. Also consider that in a real fire fight there is a high likelihood of having to shoot in suboptimal conditions where acquiring a standard sight picture is, shall we say, challenging. I see no reason to "fight fair" and in a sportsman like fashion.

I like the laser on my pistol. I have a TLR-6, and it has a flashlight also. However, I have it set for the flashlight and laser to come on at the same time. The flash light doesn’t allow the threat to know I have a firearm pointed at them. This gives me a level of surprise and disorientation. The laser alone doesn’t allow me to properly assess the threat at night time, and it gives away my position if I’m hiding behind cover. So I say if you’re going to use a laser, have a flashlight too.

Love the comments from range warriors. Yes laser does allow you an advantage in certain shooting situations and disadvantage in others. Calmly punching holes in paper w no return fire or threat of death is an ideal situation. If the laser fails you simply revert back to using the sights. Under fire with someone shooting back at you a laser is easier to pick up than a good sight picture using iron sights. Especially at night. It will however give away your exact position. Better make the first shots count !

Laser grips with the laser above and behind the trigger have a neat little feature in that if you are in a situation where there is real concern you can place the trigger finger over the laser in the standard "yes Mr. Range Officer my finger is outside the trigger guard" position. When you move the finger to the trigger you automatically light up your target.
@nobody2021
@nobody2021 2 года назад
my feeling is that if you are ever shooting at someone in this calm "take your time" way, then you're probably not defending yourself. shooting like this, and forcing yourself to shoot quickly and accurately are two very different kinds of shooting. if you haven't trained adequately at quickly drawing and firing, or quickly readying your weapon and firing, then you're not practiced and you're not prepared to adequately defend yourself. self defense with a handgun is largely about muscle memory and you can't replace that with a tacticool laser, you cannot simply buy muscle memory.

This is pretty misleading. Sure on a static range with a flat one color surface area to shoot lasers will help inexperienced shooters that can't get proper sight alignment and sight picture, but shooting at moving targets or any sort of fast fire looking for a laser isn't going to cut it. This just reinforces not getting proper sight alignment and sight picture and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. They gave them the crappiest, smallest and least controllable gun to shoot with.

Just my two cents. If anyone is thinking about getting a laser, either built in or add on, I would recommend a green laser rather than a red laser. Green is much more visible.

I occasionally have to shoot a racoon that is fighting with my dog. Usually in poor light or by flashlight. With a laser, I can keep the gun a bit low so I can see the fight clearly with both eyes and then shoot without fear of hitting the dog. If I use the gun sights, the gun blocks out half the target/fight.

What does a laser do better than a RMR? Especially in daylight and the laser could be washed out. Not to mention there's allot Moore movement to track in a laser than a RMR. Not to mention all this emphasis on hitting the target. When you should ask yourself should you be shooting the target. Is it actually a threat? A light is a superior accessory to take up that Precious rail space.

Were they shooting with their eyes open or were they trying to use The Force to guide the bullets to the target?

This video has convinced me to carry the laser now instead of the flashlight. And yes you can see the green in daylight. I don’t care if the laser is off a little still worth it.

Like everything else in life, if you want to shoot well with a laser, practice with one! None of these people have ever shot a laser before, they are bad examples.

Under pressure I'll take the laser every time. Many purists seem to think it is a sign of weakness. I also like power steering and brakes on my cars.

Lasers are faster for people with little or no training and slower for people with any substantial training or experience. There's more limitations than advantages with lasers, but for subcompacts with virtually no sight radius or functional sights, it has its place. Put this on a full size or a compact and you're doing more harm than good.

Did you take a second and reread what you just said? They gave you an all case scenario. A chick who had never shot, a guy who liked guns and shot sometimes, and a former marine/cop that has professional firearms training. It helped every single one of them not only acquire the target quicker, but give them tighter groups.
