#laserdisc #physicalmedia #mysterybox I go through another mystery box of Laserdiscs full of surprises including: Batman, Star Wars, star Trek, boxsets, DTS, Criterion and Japanese imports!!
Fans prefer the Japanese LD of Batman for a perceived tiny difference in sound? Reminds me of some of the more nitpicky audiophile threads I've bared witness to, where rarity can colour the sound, so to speak. Not me shitting on a cool collector's item, but I'm always a little dubious about claims like these.
It’s apparently slightly better in dynamics and was on a fanres thread where they went into it so I have more faith on it than had it been just mentioned elsewhere.
I don't know about Batman but American Graffiti is so much better than the Signature collection its like a night and day difference. There are also Japan pressings that have digital tracks US pressings don't have. Like Raiders and Star Wars, and Star Trek TMP special longer version. And the rental copy of Golden Voyage of Sinbad.
Sorry to hear that but at least you got it signed. I wish I could’ve met Mike Hodges so badly. I would’ve stammered in full nerd mode and not known what to say. But it would’ve been nice just to be able to tell him how awesome he was.
I'm surprised to hear someone call 'Flash Gordon' a masterpiece! For me it's enjoyable, but not good enough to be a genuine masterpiece, & not really funny enough to be a 'trashy masterpiece'. 😂
I’ve loved it from the get go. I do adore the original serials but the film is magical due to Mike Hodges just going for broke and realizing along with Lorenzo Semple Jr’s script that you had to have an edge of satire and warmth to make that kind of story work for a modern audience if you weren’t going to go the full two fisted adventure route. It’s one of the films that for me feels like a complete experience that is entirely unique. It’s such a shame there wasn’t a sequel.
