Should prospective buyers be concerned about safety in the city of Manta? The following is a brief summary of a recent article that was posted in CuencaHighLife on July 6, 2024: While murders nationwide in Ecuador have dropped 20% since January 2024 they have increased 50% in Manta and Manabí Province according to the National Police report. As of May 31, 68% of all murders in Ecuador have been committed in Manabí Province, the majority in the city of Manta. According to InSight Crime, there is “terror on the streets of Manta” as the battle for gang control plays out. “The extent of extortion and terrorism has risen to very high levels in the community,” “Politicians, businesses and public employees in the city and province work in fear of the gangs. The Ecuadorian government decided last week to relocate the police and armed force command center to Manta in the hopes of reducing the violence but brute force alone is not the answer. And a solution seems distant and unreachable.
Good afternoon and Happy Friday! So the short answer is, no. We have been here for over a decade with zero issues. Our clients, friends, and locals still walk the streets, walk around restaurant row in the evenings, walk the beaches, walk to the mall etc with no worries. The US is still considered much more dangerous by the majority of foreigners here, as we don't worry about daily mass shootings, school shootings, road rage shootings, and regular acts of violence towards the general public like there is daily in the US. Just a couple days ago you had the 45th school shooting just this year in the US and the 386th mass shooting in the US this year. The issues that were going on here were majority related to "that business" and the people involved in it. So unless you plan to get involved in "that business", you don't have much to worry about;) Another example, across the street from our office is a multi-million dollar beachfront neighborhood with some very high end cars such as Maserati, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and even a recent Lamboghini. All of those people still drive around and live as normal. All of this being said, we always invite everyone to come down and visit the area for yourself, talk to the other expats and locals, and see how you like it. Worst case scenario you enjoyed another vacation, but best case scenario you get to start living like a vacation:)
The building does have a full backup generator should we ever lose power, but the power has been fine recently. The only issue we ever had was earlier in the year with the El Nino system that caused a drought in the highlands and effect supply, but that is not a regular occurrence. The last El Nino we had was in 1997 so we are usually just fine for power:)
Good morning Randy, the HOA has not been established yet but we always estimate $1.50m2 give or take a little. Internet might run you around $40-$50 per month for good reliable speed with fiber. Have a great week!
We appreciate your comment however we must note, we actually employ multiple locals personally and as part of our team. We have a large network made up of local professionals and local businesses that we send a great deal of business/clients to, thereby helping them increase their success. We have organized and donated thousands of dollars to local charities and fundraisers, as well as participated in multiple charity events to help raise money and exposure. We will also note that due to the large amount of marketing, exposure, promotions, and sales with local and foreign clientele, we continue to increase the local economy, which in turn adds more jobs. Over the years we have been working with some of the largest developers in the country and helping them market and sell their home and condo projects locally and around the world, in turn helping to employ hundreds if not thousands of local craftsmen and personnel, and again increasing and supporting the local economy and businesses. We have received formal thanks/gratitude from 3 different Mayors, the head of the Department of Housing, tourist board members, and many other high ranking Ecuadorian professionals. It has been an honor to help bring much deserved positive attention to Ecuador and our area of Manta, and we enjoy giving back and supporting our area, that has welcomed us in as family. One last note, we also work with many local realtors and help them to sell their listings as well. We have a great standing within the local realty market, again helping other locals to increase their income and lifestyle. We are honored and thankful to be a part of this incredible and loving area we call home.
We already have the first new clients/owners moving in now with more scheduled:) The HOA has not been established yet but we always estimate $1.50m2 give or take a little. Yearly property taxes will probably be less than $400 for the whole year lol!
