Wenxiu was the Last Consort of China. She was the rival of Empress Wanrong but she was never the favorite of Emperor Puyi. She is an incredibly intelligent, happy woman with high self-esteem. 1. She was the only one realising that siding with the Japanese was a wrong move. She advised the Emperor against it, however, he was blinded with greed to take back his power, he pushed her aside and isolated her. 2. Wanrong constantly bullied her. Even when they were living in the Forbidden City, Wanrong wrote many letters to her to mock her. Wenxiu once wrote back to the Empress to correct her spelling. 3. In many photos, she is seen laughing, stretching her arms up. It's rare to see a happy, smiling woman in the Forbidden City - probably WenXiu was the only one. 4. One of her brothers criticised her divorce publicly on a newspaper. She wrote back to him on the same newspaper and advised him to read the laws again because everything she did was according to law. She's truly an inspiring figure, given the context of the society she lived in.

Although Wanrong had a western education, she still clung on to the outdated and empty "Empress of China" title. To die later so miserably alone in the end WenXiu on the other hand, was more determined to break free these centuries old Manchu custom and to live the life she really wanted. She is the more successful woman and died being loved

Thanks for bringing up the story of Wenxiu. There are many pictures of her from her brief time in the Forbidden City where she looked like a very cheerful and kind girl. I find even funny that somehow she and Wanrong sometimes dressed alike like twins, which seems to be on purpose and not by custom. It's sad that things went bad for them and that they grew apart because they seemed to be friends at the beginning, but also the culture within the inner court and the strained lives they had to lead there made it difficult for them to remain in amicable terms, specially if Puyi was starting to despise Wenxiu (because it meant that everyone had to look down on her, servants included). I also think that it was a bitter blow for her to be demoted to commoner, since people from the banners took a lot of pride on their rank, and even more if it was a woman from the harem, it was like loosing identity in the world. Her sister was married to another Aisin Gioro, I believe Puyi's cousin and kind of recall she got divorced almost at the same time, so it was a scandal within for what remained of the Qing nobility. What I wonder sometimes is why if she was the first option for Empress, she was made just Consort Shu instead of Noble Consort, specially if we think that Puyi seemed not interested into expand the harem, should he got allowed to stay longer in the Forbidden City.

I think the matters about the love of family members are most important. How he looks or she looks was not the case, what she can do to keep family and friends around her together. It is not important anymore when they decided to separate from each other. They bad-mouth each other against something he lacks being romantic to her and paying more attention to something else not treasuring what she did for the whole entire clan. Chinese kept saying that since the Qing took over China, everybody live under their government getting better and better than before. Their fathers led China to another stage of laws while the terrorists in the country still hold grudges against them. robbery, stealing, kidnapping, attacked them in many ways.

A major Factual Error: Wenxiu was NOT "the Last Consort of China" as the video claims. (For that matter nor was Wanrong the "the Last Empress of China"). Both were married to Puyi in 1922. Puyi, known as Emperor Xuantong of Qing, had already abdicated in 1912, which marked the end of the Qing dynasty as China's central government. Pursuant to the Instrument of Abdication, which remained legally valid until 1924, the government of Republic of China continued to recognize Puyi's imperial title and treat him according to the diplomatic protocol befitting a foreign monarch over the next 12 years. In other words, from his accession to the throne in Nov 1908 (when he was only 3 years old) until Feb 12th, 1912, Puyi was the Emperor of China. From that day onward until 1924, he was merely the Emperor of Qing Court (as recognized by Republic of China), whose legal status was reduced to a nonprofit corporation of ROC. In was against this backdrop Wenxiu and Wanrong married to Puyi in 1922. Wenxiu was therefore legitimately the Imperial Consort of Qing between 1922 and 1924. She of course had nothing to do with "the Last Consort of China", however, as China ceased being a monarchy more than a decade before her wedding. 1922 was already the 10th year of the Republic era. The person who was the real "Last Consort of China" was in fact Imperial Noble Consort Wenjing (1873-1924), who was the consort of Emperor Guangxu of Qing, Puyi's predecessor. She was effectively the true governor (in the name of "regency") of the abdicated Qing court during 1913-1922. Upon Puyi's wedding the regency ended and Puyi personally took over the authority of the Qing Court. His imperial title would last for two more years until the Republic finally rescinded its recognition of all the remaining titles & privileges of the Qing court. Thereupon Puyi, Wenxiu, and other imperial nobles formally received the citizenship from Republic of China. The imperial clan was evicted from the Forbidden City and went into exile in Tianjin International Concession Zone subsequently. (Then and there Wenxiu filed for divorce).

She has a gutsy character and doesn't think much of social decorum/ etiquette. It is the norm that any woman who becomes part of the emperor's circle of women cannot leave the palace anymore. So, if the emperor hasn't visited her in marital bed, she might die as a virgin there.( Earlier part of the Qing dynasty). During puyi's time, he only has 1 concubine. Belt tightening ,you know. Treasury was plundered by empress dowager cixi and war

I don't judge their marriage as bad, I think the way they run everybody inside the dynasty is not well being. Like she could not bear a son for the king, they disgrace her and place her in a cold environment. The laws against intelligent and nice ladies in the kingdom shut them out of socializing in a good way. Like now they run everybody in USA the same way. Men have every right to raise their hands and loudmouth about her and when she opens the story of how they are after her family. They are all disregarded how she cares and has love for them the whole entire time. They said it is all about jealousy, I don't think so. It is all about this group of people empowering themselves over another group of victims just because they think being evil could win all and being nice and simple to each other sincerely will not help anything at all.
