The acting is amazing. When they are talking about what God looks like .......For a one brief small moment, it's almost looks like the devil regrets his actions to rebel. Then goes back to normal. Amazing acting by Ewan McGregor.
@@vortexusa124 why is it a bad depiction of Jesus? He was a man. He got dirty and stank. He shit and pissed and farted like all us. He enjoyed the company of women. He got angry and committed violent acts. He was the son of God of course, but as much the son of God as you or me. He had doubts. He admits it. He was imperfect. He admits it. That is the triumph of his story: If I, a man, can do this, (give up worldly things for eternal life on faith alone), so can “you”. That was his sacrifice: His life as a man, living to be old, having a wife and children and all worldly things, living a happy worldly life but he gave that up in order to forge a path to heaven for all mankind after him (If you believe in this) I don’t understand some Christians insistence that Jesus was perfect and infallible. Where is the jeopardy and sacrifice in his journey if this is the case? He was not a superhero. He was not Superman. He didnt have all the answers. He was just a man who had faith but also doubt. Which is okay. He made his choice to sacrifice himself on that faith and fulfill a pact with his Father. On faith alone. He didn’t know for sure. He says it on the cross. He screams it in agony: “Father! why have you forsaken me?” Does that sound like a God who knows everything will be fine? He could have turned his back on the entire thing at anytime. And was tempted to do just that. But he didn’t. The idea of THAT Jesus is the one that inspires me. Not the perfect sanitized Marvel superhero that some “Christians” depict him as.
I like the portrait of Lucifer in this movie. It's like he's a deeply hurt individual, not the face of pure evil. He has much anguish inside him, just like Jesus. But unlike Lucifer, Jesus has faith in him and in his father. A nice scene.
I always thought there was more to this story about the devil honestly and Mankin and all this shit on earth 🌎 😒 but who really knows ???? It' may be a conspiracy?????
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and said: "Hello there, this the highground. If you jump, it will be another happy landing!"
Satan's story is the oldest story. A son unhappy with his father, unwilling to accept he is not in charge, and a desire to be in power. In control. That's all it boils down to in the end, Satan is just an angry, insignificant thing next to God and he wont accept it. Most people don't accept it either, pride keeps us from that acceptance.
Depends on which denomination of Christianity. There are 30,000 after all. Many depict Jesus as a mere man. Some say he was 'adopted' by god on his baptism. Others that he was both divine and mortal. The point is that the Trinity is merely one idea formed by an, admittedly large, section of Christianity.
@DragonBat362 According to the largest section of Christianity, yes you are right. I was only mentioning the thousands of other Christian denominations who have a different view then that. I find them fascinating.
Satan : Do you still remember him? Jesus : Yes... Satan : Anakin Skywalker ..betrayed you , You did what was necessary. Jesus: No I feel there is still hope.....I am sorry.....
Right? I find myself coming again and again to this scene...is such an honest heartfelt representations of God elusive nature to men...our general hope and dissapointment in his existence or lack of thereof...Jesús doubts about his existence and Satan hate-adoration is so amazing...like he misses him and hates it
Only beings of near equal status are able to have a casual conversation like this. It's clear the devil would not do this with someone he felt was beneath him.
@@smallhors848 - I don't disagree. Jesus is clearly higher status. He is special. I just think the devil wouldn't bother having this kind of casual conversation with normal regular humans. The devil probably views regular humans as beneath him. It would be like us regular humans talking and having a conversation with a Mouse (or even an Ant).
In my opinion, It sounds like a moment of self realization! He calls God “creature” just like he refers to Jesus. Then it finally sounds like the devil explains to him how he is feeling....2:28... in the presence of God.
"And all the while it makes you believe that you and he are one and the same and that..that...that's...well that can be quite confusing." It is actually an insightful quote: whatever you define God as and whyever you do so, being able to tell the precise difference between what is, and what isn't...can be very unclear. On the one hand you've got Satan who defines God by the power he has over what factually is, and he likes to believe that it's possible for one to be as powerful as him, or like him, or even somehow control him thus indirectly being him. The "confusion" can make people arrogant. And on the other hand you've got Jesus who views God as an idea of love which influences people's souls and therefore has some degree of control over their decisions, more so than a person with free will, and he thinks that by showing off how spiritually strong his love makes him, he is being the same as God. But the trouble is that him showing off doesn't automatically put the idea of love into other's souls if they refuse to care/believe/pay attention. He doesn't understand that morality isn't a means of controlling people, it is a faith. And faiths sadly can be wrong. And he is a preacher of the faith, not the actual faith, he is not infallible, he is dependent on other's faith in him as well. The "confusion" can also make people arrogant, albeit in a different way than Satan's. So yeah, "God", isn't about right or wrong, it's about what is believed in, and what isn't believed in. Here Satan is trying to get Jesus to believe in selfishness, and there Jesus is, trying to find some way of holding onto hope in order to make his feelings of selflessness be positive ones.
@@prenticevaughn1996 oh. We always play with the devil, sometimes we win sometimes we lose. Atleast he wasn't stupid enough to kill billions of people unlike his father up there.
It's actually a perfect representation of the Devil. He's not some horned creature or a seductive angelic traitor, he's YOU. You make the bad decisions in your life. Your bad conscience drives you to hurt people. The Devil just encourages you to do it cuz he knows despite your potential for good and greatness, you're desire for evil ans mediocrity is oh so tempting. It's honestly quite brilliant.
"Re-told the whole thing on a whim with little differences that must mean the world to him." Yeah that happens a lot in fiction: the wind in the willows, Star Trek, the biblical apocalypse, Aladdin, DC, Marvel, vampires, Were-Wolves, ghosts, around the world in eighty days, The jungle book, Dr Who, robin hood, king Arthur and Merlin and all that lot, James Bond, Transforms etcetera. What is this modern obsession with almost exactly the same thing being told repeatativly with no major originality thrown into the pot?
The Devil projects his own failings on to a perfect God but I don’t like the idea of Jesus asking the Devil what it’s like to be in God’s presence. He knows. It makes the Devil too sympathetic.
How would he know, he never felt god that is exactly why he had doubts and why he had to believe, if he just knew he wouldn't have had to believe. And I don't think it makes him more sympathetic, he is a liar as he says himself so it's probably just sharade and Jesus knows that
Jesus in the film is on the quest, looking for his Father. Knows the Father but kinda not and this is so powerful. He has no doubts about God being his Father and yet, Jesus is unable to communicate with Him. He asks Satan about God's presence as if he doesn't feel it in himself. He asks Satan because it appears that Satan know Father somehow better. In the film Jesus knows of the Father, he knows what Father wants him to do, but he doesn't know the Father. He is fully convinced God loves him deeply and cares for him, but at the same time there is this silence and feeling of loneliness somewhere underneath Why would he need to go to the desert to fast, pray and meditate if he knew everything? What would be the point of these forty days if he had known everything right from the start.
If Lucifer punished the sinners so he's actually a good guy? Or a dude just doing what is tasked for him to do, Or Because the one above failed make a contingency plan and just go with the flow of events?
@@christbenitez8797the Bible never says that the devil punishes sinners in hell. The idea comes from Roman Catholicism with questionable reliability. What is said by the Bible (more specifically the book of Revelation) is that the devil along with his other demons will burn in The Lake of Fire alongside unrepentant sinners for eternity.
It is an intresting question. And the aswer is different if you will seek it in the three great abrahamic religions. In Judaism Satan or if you will take an entity with a similar role is Samael. Who actually is not evil he just have a purpose that in our eyes it may seem so. He has the duty to tempt and accuse and if it is God's will even to destroy. But he is subservient to God not a rebel. In Islam they have a very different version of both judaism and christianism Satan is not an Angel but a Djinn creatures made by God from fire without smoke who refused to bow to men when God made them. The interesting part is that Satan and all Djinn can be saved and forgived if they repent of their sins. The Christian version well we all know Satan is casted into a lake of fire to burn for all eternity. In my personal view God would not make the mistake of creating a rebel Angel. Actually he would not make a mistake at all. He would not create Satan knowing what he would become unless God wanted that way. The figure of Satan is very complex I myself a schollar of occult and other stuff strugle a lot to understand his figure or his role. I changed my mind a lot of times about him and every time I feel close to a conclusion something always pushes me back. Maybe it is not for me to know. But If we consider that Satan is evil I am quite sure that he would not accept peace with God even if God would be the one to offer it.
God All Mighty so Christianity is all just perpetuated bullshit? I can understand the Catholic religion being a scam considering their history with Martin Luther and even their current mysticism about people claiming that the Vatican is withholding vital information in regards to the truth of reality itself. It isn't hard to believe that certain groups distribute misinformation so that the true power can be held in their hands. While the common people place their idealisms and hope on false promises. Even in the Christian bible it's stated a king used Djinn to build a temple. I was fascinated by the recent Aladdin movie. Since that has to be inspired from some form of truth. I than began researching into spirits being servants to humans and stumbled across a website with detailed information about every deity in known history. Their preferences, what offerings they prefer, and with people on that site actually claiming they witness these things and have miracles performed . Although they can't perform miracles such as vast wealth like lottery tickets and these people stress the fact that it most likely isn't immediate . This could also explain how some royal houses have these creatures or deities displayed as a sigil. This isn't the first time I've entertained this idea. As I theorized when I was younger if perhaps spirits are just energy, why can't we use it? They can obviously affect the physical world to a degree. With the addition of hearing accounts of people completely separate from this community , encountering dark entities that wish for them to be worshipped and in return they will give whatever they want to the worshipper. I however withdrew myself from the thought of even delving into it since it could just be a trap of satan . Using greed, ego, and desperation to further delude those lost without Jesus. Satan is said to be the father of lies after all . But as time goes on, and the suffering continues, the unfairness of our world. I start to wonder, why does God truly allow this? Why did he allow Satan to live? Just so he could serve a purpose to bring people closer to God? Just for the beauty of choice?? God could easily make a perfect world but he doesn't. And how could it be viewed in any other way than his sick fantasy of watching a simulation play out. In moments of anger and frustration I find myself cursing, saying that God is nothing but a child with powers of absolute authority. Since why would a God get angry? Why would he even have human emotions? It doesn't make any sense. The counter arguement would be of course "he molded us in his image". If that is so, than the only difference between us , the devil, God, Angels, and demons is that they have the power to control reality more precisely than we do. That their understanding of how to control it is far more vibrant . Otherwise, without that , they're just like us. In my personal opinion , there has to be more to this place than simple survival. I can feel it and my intuition has been astutely accurate in my life . For example, primitive tribes who have no idea of the progression of human civilization, dont know the wonders we enjoy. So what is to say that doesn't apply to humans vs whatever else is truly out there. Or maybe this truly is all enigmatic and we only have one life that Is by a remarkable brush of luck . A 525 billion to one chance . However in all those cases, that still doesn't disregard the suffering , but can only make one ignore it.
Actually, this has a potential for a nightmare scene in the upcoming Kenobi series. We did see Obi Wan in a cave in the teaser so, this scene in my opinion, just mine, is a perfect foreshadowing of Obi Wan having a nightmare in that cave recalling all of the events that have happened.
@@Ben-pd2bx Those are some excellent points. The Obi-wan nightmare scene did feel short. The show had a missed opportunity for Part one to show Maul killing Satine in his nightmares as live action sequence, more scenes of Boonie Piesse as Aunt Beru talking with Ben, or Obi-wan saving a local Tatoonie resident who is mugged by Jabba's thugs in Anchorhead.
@@yasuhohirose2340 this was just a random brainwave from me. When I saw the nightmare scene, I was like "woah slow down there Jesus I only made an assumption." 🤣🤣🤣
One thing I don’t think people understand is that the reason he played with Jesus and Satan here is because the devil is ego and doubt, and while Jesus was the son of God, he was also a man and these things he also had to struggle with. Phenomenal acting.
It’s not accurate . Which I hate in movies , it’s not hard to make biblical accurate movie about Satan , you have the Bible right there beside you . Use it
What the directors and producers on this scene and plot forgot to remember and apply is that Adonai was less ignorant like how he spoke on this scene with Lucifer and at the Age of 12 was already knowledgeable of The Almighty Father and is even able to talk with authority infront of elder Scholars and about the scriptures.. Why would he ask was there a face when at a very young age he already started to focus on The Almighty Father's business? Would the idea be on his care more of The Almighty Father's features?
This is an interpretation of certain story not the literary re-creation of the Gospels. They showed their imaginarium and invited us into it, to see Jesus as they understand him.
@@marta9127 i appreciate the clarification and response. Just seemed personally troubled of the question. hehe I find it even dangerous for the soul to go different in relaying Jesus Christ off the scriptures. Thanks.
@@christbenitez8797 tackling our nature is a good point and i respect that. i Guess what i go against with or is not into are things that projects a different impression or like putting words into The Lord's mouth. 😐 We need not to dare such extent of danger just for the point of measuring human nature. It's what supposedly should define us different from id wearing faith/religion from a living existing Divine relationship. But i got your point and appreciate your response. Thank you.
When Yeshua/Jesus Christ asked the devil what God was like...I felt like it was akin to a son asking his brother what their father is like and the brother having a not so great relationship with him while Yeshua wants to know him more and knows he is good.
I would be very interested in hearing other interpretations of the last shot in Garcia’s Last Days in the Desert. I have my own idea but whatever Garcia’s meaning, I feel that it is going to be missed by most viewers.
The brilliance of Jesus in this scene can’t be overlooked. He was testing Satan while Satan thought he was testing him. “Have you seen his face?” Satan response reveals that he doesn’t know the word as well as Christ and that he is truly arrogant. God clearly has a face. Exodus 33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. John 14:9 He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, ‘Show us the Father’? Jesus is making fun of the Devil to his face and he never catches on…
Interesting contrast between the story of Jesus temptation in the wilderness and Ephesians 5v28. "In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church-" and yet we see in the wilderness Jesus starving his body which is sort of self abuse. Also when Jesus said, "Man can not live by bread alone but by the Word of God" it might have been a clever response by Satan to say, "Well how saying the Lord's prayer then, 'Give us this day our daily bread'" The Matthew ch3 story could have been improved by making it that Jesus magically made wheat grow super fast on the desert soil there as a fulfillment of Isaiah 35, "1The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, 2it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God." But don't forget that the bulk of the wheat plant is made from carbon dioxide out of the air.
There is much to be learned from Christian mythology. The first and most important thing is that Christianity is based on earlier myths from the eastern Mediterranean.
Devil isn't wrong. It is how an omniscient being would amuse themselves. Think I'm wrong? If you believe in a God, how would you keep an omniscient mind occupied? Simple. You introduce chaos, and disorder. You introduce evil. This, by default means that God cannot be benevolent. Simply need to take a look at the world around you to see all the evidence of that. There is no satisfactory argument to the contrary, though I invite you to try. Enjoy your life. Be a good human. Do what you can with this finite amount of time. You dont need a magic sky man to accomplish that. The only thing you need is the person you see in the mirror, every morning.
According to sand people who knew nothing about the world a century after Jesus (of which there's no actual historical record) supposedly lived. Sorry. Your information is as useless as theirs.
Does the bible 100% confirms Lucifer is Satan? Or is Satan some other guy? Really curious The video seems to be Lucifer the fallen angel just asking questions to his former boss
Neither are the biblical devil, but Christians tend to be too dumb to understand this and still use Lucifer, Satan and the Devil interchangeably. I was born and raised Catholic until I actually read the book and holy shit do people get pretty much everything wrong, make up a bunch of untrue things (much like the Bible) and ignore inconvenient things, while claiming to follow the best selling piece of fiction.
Jesus Christ and Satan battle it out many times during the course of history in Jesus's life even the demons are afraid of him when he casted out demons from a man and the demons were sent to a bunch of pigs and Jesus Christ also confronted Satan when a man begged Jesus to help him when his son was possessed and all Jesus did was say "Leave him" They did. Jesus Christ was the son of god who took away the sins of the world and he died to save us. Jesus won over Lucifer several times and Jesus knew the world was messed up even then from the dawn of time and till the end of his life. When Jesus Christ died he became great and then he came back after 3 days I will die and rise again in 3 days and he did. Jesus was alpha male not the kind of alpha male you would think of him as strong but in his heart he was a lion Jesus will come again and when he does it will be huge. Every kingdom will shake and every nation and its people will fall onto their knees because Jesus Christ is the King Lucifer will battle it out with Michael and he will lose. The devil just confuses you only if you let him. Jesus Christ was the lamb of god who took away the sins of the world and he was made to suffer because he let himself become easy prey. Jesus will come back. Jesus stated when the Rapture happens he will come like a thief in the night. He will come back and everything will be peace and full of love and there will be no more wars no more tears just happiness and love.
