As the days roll by and we get one step closer to getting the keys to our new home and moving in to our house, we're not taking van life for granted. We will have to live in the bus for the first few months of house renovations but in this week's video we're driving home for Christmas.
This week we drive to Edinburgh Christmas Markets as we make our way down the country.
We've wrapped up buying a house in Scotland and are road tripping back to Wales for one last time to enjoy Christmas with our families and pack up our stuff ready for our new chapter.
Winter camping was a blast last week but living in our tiny home - our cosy van with heating and a shower beats the camping in the forest in minus temperatures!
Even though we've just bought a house we can still highly recommend a camper van conversion any day! The freedom it gives you is incredible. Living in a van will never get old and we'll still make van life videos whenever we get super bored of the house renovations!

Here's a tip: for fake Christmas trees that "shed snow" just spray with a extreme hold hairspray or spray or non flammable glue. Works for ours.

My advice is buy a mini digger. The amount of different things you can use a mini digger for will save you thousands in the long run, plus you don't run your own body into the ground. The amount of money we've spent on hiring diggers over the 20 years!!! of renovating, we could have bought a mini digger 5 times over. Good luck, and I look forward to watching your progress.

I was on anti-anxiety meds for 7 years on and off until about 2 years ago when I also moved to a new place. Wishing you guys all the best

My wife and I had so much fun at the Christmas Market in Edinburgh when we went in 2021. We didn't even know it was a thing and we just happened to stumble upon it. Such a magical thing to do in that city. And The Scotch Whisky Experience was an amazing thing to do as well!! I have fallen in love with Edinburgh and need to go back soon.

As for the giant reno bit - lol - don't be afraid to have more than a few projects going at once -- measure in weeks and months, NOT hours/days -- never feel guilty or afraid to take a break -- be kind to yourselves so it doesn't all start to feel like a burden -- be realistic and know that everything will take time - years even, but you're doing it and we love watching and supporting your journey :)))

If I can offer one piece of advice for your future homeownership... when starting a project, decide which one of you will be 'the boss' or 'in charge' on that task...One boss the other is the worker bee or apprentice. Do this for every major project and sometimes the minor ones. My husband and I learned to do this (the hard way) when we started working on our first 'home improvement' project over 45 years ago. Yes next week we celebrate 46 yers of marriage and 49 years together... .so I think this advice works 😉. Best to you both. I just started watching you a few months ago and really enjoy your channel

One of my favorite cities ever! Oh and the haggis, the whiskey, the castles! FREEDOMMMMM! . I need to get back there and do it proper justice I was there just before RU-vid started. You could always put an old camper or something on the property and let people stay there for a vacation in bonny Scotland for help with the renovation in return. There is a bunch of people doing stuff like that in Germany and it gives people that don't have great finances the chance to get out and see somewhere new and you get a few more hands to help you out :)

yes! I loved your comment about how there's no need to rush it. We recently renovated our kitchen and our mantra was: Blood, Sweat but No Tears. When we got overly frustrated by something we stopped and took a break for as long is it took to come back to that task with a fresh attitude. If we were tempted to argue, we new it was time to stop and take a break. It made the process so nice! All our friends were complaining about how stressful their renovations were and we just had fun! We learned new skills that we're both so proud of annnnd the whole thing just feels fused with a lovely intentionally joyful essence. I highly recommend it as a mantra!

Om gosh I love you two gorgeous human beings! Fairly new to RU-vid channels and I’m fully immersed now! I spend a guilty but delicious hour or so every week hiding from the chaos of life watching yours and others video’s (Kara and Nate, The Newby’s, Travel Beans etc.). The furthest I go these days is to the local mall to escape the heat 😂. Thank you for your brilliant adventures and I can’t wait to see what you do with your beautiful home! Guys, next time you're in Edinburgh, you HAVE to head to Cafe Marmalade in Leith for Breakfast/Brunch - they're the best breakfast in the city and lots of Vegan options for youse (and Gluten free if anyone else reading needs that). Aubrey and everyone there are brilliant humans to boot.

Park Custard on some large very sticky rodent control mats so the mice have no access to the wheels, also check that no mud flaps are closer than 6 inches to the ground. Jack her up, slide the mats under the wheels then lower her down on them. Also check that they can't climb down onto her.

you mentioned being patient and kind to each other during this project. But, I think it's important to also be patient and kind to the house. So often when I do big projects I just get lost what what needs to get done, deadlines, setbacks, etc that I can grow to resent the project. A full house renovation and restoration is going to take a toll and I recommend trying to take a step back everyonce in a while to remember the whole picture and why your doing this project in the first place, as well as why you love it. All coming from almost 15 years as a DIYer, maker, assistant house renovatior to my dad, and artist.

Craig, checking in, as someone who slowly weened off her antidepressants recently, it can take MONTHS for any symptoms of depression to reappear! I was on antidepressants for 6 years, and weened off over the span of 3 months of decreasing dosages, and I'm still doing well today (a year later), but my doc was very clear that it's the 1-3 month period after you've taken your last dose that you need to watch out for. You'll probably be fully in home renovations by then, so PLEASE, talk with Amy and both be on the lookout for any signs of mental dips or dives in the upcoming months. A day or two isn't a big deal, but if you notice depression symptoms last more than a week, make sure to talk with your doctor again. Good luck, my friend, I hope you both have a blast in the new home!

Craig I’m so proud of you for coming off the Anti-Depressants. I grew up with my father learning to control his Bipolar, now knowing the intricacies of finding the correct medication to deal best with the ups and downs of life. I’m so happy for you and Amy every Sunday to see you both growing and flourishing in Scotland. It’s so inspiring I’m nearing the end of my 20’s and feeling the urge to find a place to called Base Camp, you have both Truly inspired me to look into Scotland. I love Chris Broad. I’ve been subscribing him for years. And just recently found y’all’s channel because of the video with Kara and Nate. But I’ve been binge watching. My other half and I watch your videos every week, and we're so excited for your move to Scotland! My aunt and uncle actually live in Ballater too. I would say watch out for the flooding, but you guys seem pretty set up on the top of the hill! As an aside, I'm an asbestos consultant, and I just wanted to point out its worth being aware of the stuff before you start tearing out bits of the new house! I'm happy to chat to you guys about it to give you some honest and practical advice - you'll get very different opinions from people, from those who couldn't care less about the stuff, to those that are terrified of it. I took such joy in knocking walls out of my friends HOUSE and watch it grow into a HOME that's filled with Love and Memories from us all in our 20's camping in walls taken back to bare Granite, to having Children and now into our 50's and Children all grown up. My soul sister no longer with us she died so suddenly but the Home we helped create is there strong and constant and a anchor for her husband and children and me. The hardest thing sometimes is to stop and think is what you about to do... what you are doing is it that you really want it like that or is it more just to get a job done... Stopping maybe hard while you save or firm up your idea but well worth it both in time and money you will save in the long term. You have all time in the world so embrace and enjoy creating your Home 💜🥰💜
