If you can, try these settings at the upper floor of The Observatory in the Divine Era. Some of these settings can be noticeable there, for instance, Shadows on Ultra will display dynamic shadows from moving objects and also a big FPS drop, Screen Space Reflections will impact metallic surfaces, changing Volumetric Lighting to Ultra will cause a huge FPS drop even though nothing seens to change from Very High to Ultra and, Ambient Occlusion on High makes a difference on brighter areas. After testing on different types of maps, the best settings I found for best quality with lesser FPS impact was: Master Quality: Medium - seems to need at least 6GB VRAM; Shadow Quality: High - small difference from Medium but on some places, some NPCs will have no shadows on Medium; Detail Shadows: Off - didn't notice changes; Antialliasing: Off - didn't notice considerable changes to be worth, SMAA and TAA causes around 5 FPS loss; Grass Density: Full - had almost no impact even with Detail Shadows on; Reflections: Low - noticed small change on some objects but couldn't find anything noticiable, even on water. Went with Low as Resentec seems to have found more meaningful change; Ambient Coclusion: High - makes a difference on brighter areas; Volumetric Lighting: Low - didn't notice any change above low. Even though in the video, Resentec seems to have found, the FPS impact increases a lot the more you increase this; Screen Space Reflections: High - small FPS loss but brings better details in metalic surfaces; Terrain Quality: Very Low - this one made no difference at all.
i followed your settings almost to the T with just a few minor tweaks. i'm running a 4090 and i9 but still got heavy fps drops in higher tier content with larger mob density. these settings work great man and dare I say, the graphics even look crisper and somewhat better than set to ultra. thanks a bunch man, subbing for sure.
I also have massive fps problems on high mob density areas, playing on 3070ti and 11400F on 1440p . The ingame graphic settings doesn’t even matter, if ultra or low I always get about the same fps and dropping to like 60 when 10 or more mobs show up. Tried like everything , overclocking and undervolting, always the same fps drops. Doesn’t even matter of online or offline mode.
You shouldn't be getting heavy FPS drops that are noticible with a 4090 even at 4k. I'm on a 4080 with a 7950X3D at 4k on Ultra and I haven't dropped below 80FPS at any time. My FPS is locked to 120fps.
@@ripleyhrgiger4669 thats just how not optimized the game is lol, ive got a 4070 ti with a 13700k on 1440p with a 175hz monitor, generally no matter what i do with settings in this game, the fps is all over the place
Thanks man. Just went and fixed my settings based on this video. Hopefully my PC won't sound like a helicopter trying to take off next time I launch this game.
Do bear in mind that some people have pointed out the performance is spotty regardless of settings. I don't think they have performance 100% sorted out yet because it's still in early access. The full release is slated for 21st of February so hopefully we'll see some big changes then!
Best guide for Last Epoch ever! Thank you for showing the differences between the various settings... Even though I have a 4080 Super, it was a mess trying to perform @ 1440p w/ 165fps, but now that I made a bunch of adjustments based on your guide (and the latest NVIDIA driver), I hardly have anymore annoying issues that use to make this game nearly unplayable (some areas are still better/worse than others though, so it's not quite fully fixed on their end yet). There must be something at those very high/ultra quality options that seemingly don't make much of a visual difference, but still has a huge effect on the stability of frame-rates.
I really appreciate this video! But please make an update after you played a bit of 1.0! they changed a lot in the engine, I think they mentioned lighting and they revamped how terrain looks and is rendered
Ambient occlusion has big difference on sunny locations with grass. "Very high" adds shadows on grass and its looks much better than "low", but at 1:28 there is no difference, so it is bad example for that setting, i think. Otherwise all good, thanks for the video!
I usually always keep anti-aliasing off because I have a high enough pixel density monitor that it doesn't show jagged edges at native resolution anyway.
doesnt really matter what graphics settings you run game runs bad on some zones anyway, atleast for low / ultra doesnt matter on some zones maybe 5-10fps max
U encounter a whole lot more reflections while not noticing it... just look at the ground u walk on for example for a change... but then again this video is obsolete after 21Feb...

Great video. I'm going to use every setting you suggest. I would love to see you do the same sort of comparison video with Baldurs Gate 3. That games really stresses out my cpu for some reason.
as of Feb 2024, it definitely LOOKS like a polished mobile game, but like an unpolished beta PC game even though its going live in 5 days. So they really really gotta improve the edges and looks. It has the same feel as POE did back in 2013/2015 when POE went into open beta for all those years.

I set everything to low except textures on medium and terrain quality on high. Good performance and nice graphics even though I would have liked to see fsr 2
Your specs seem fine for the recommended settings! The Quality setting might need to be a little lower because it expects 4Gb from the GPU, but at medium there isn't much difference between high very high or ultra.

Sadly I am super disappointed with the visuals of this game :( the trailers and footage I've seen looks INCREDIBLE but with everything maxed out at 1440p it just looks bad imo :/ some of the textures are good and some are just outright awful, also this game has some of the worst AA implementations I've come across D: I've had to use Reshade MSAA just to stop my eyes getting stabbed by all the jaggies! lol
I think the biggest issue is lighting and textures. Hopefully we'll see a big jump on the 1.0 release - I'm going to do a remake of this video when that drops to keep things up to date.
