Your quality is bar none, thank your for all your efforts bringing us this inspiring content! - your ficcacha might be coming out like pizza due to overworking it. Try mixing in the ingredients with a spatula until they come together and let rest for 24 hrs, make into loafs and bake. ✌️

Oh no, such a long break! I would love to see a (Couch)video dealing with your experiences concerning the different type of sails. Which ones are nice, which ones a must to have? Wonderfull videos! All the best from germany :)

We’ll have a pretty busy non sailing schedule in Europe but maybe will find time to create something.

Bravo as always beautiful. Question Mark, when you it the reef why the dagerboard was not damage? How deep does it go? I though it's will be hit before the rudder. Michel Montreal Canada
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle Год назад
The reason we didn’t saw the reef and it’s even very difficult to see on satellite images is that the highest points of the reef where around 1,5 m deep. The port daggerboard was on rudder depth, the starboard daggerboard even all the way down on 2.30m. The starboard rudder might have just scratched the top of the reef, both daggerboards didn’t even touch it. A couple of centimeters left or right might have made a huge difference for better or for worse 🙈
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle Год назад
We do use the daggerboards also downwind a bit to protect the saildrives

Another nice video as usual - some stunning locations. A question - what are the bits of rope on both the port and starboard shrouds?
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle Год назад
They function really well against resonance of the shrouds that occurs at certain wind speeds and angles. We’re too lazy not to let them out there all the time

Hi folks. I was wondering, can you estimate your average monthly fuel costs so far? Also, what do you guess your ave monthly food and entertainment costs are so far in the valley? Many thanks!!
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle Год назад
We used about 1500 liter of diesel so far in 1,5 year in total for engines and genset. Food will be just like normal depending on how much you consume and where 😎

@@CatGreatcircle Many thanks! I'm building a two video series on my little channel comparing the four circumnavigation rallies available now. I'm trying to give a ball park on exactly what the adventure will cost including depreciation, fuel, food, etc. etc. Your real life data will certainly help. Many thanks and keep those wonderful videos coming!

Been enjoying the footage of your voyage, got to love the performance of your Outremer 55. Am interested to know the background for not selecting the Wingaker that you had on the Lagoon. How effective was it on the squally Atlantic downwind conditions? do you find your current red symmetric spinnaker (stormlite 210?) to be a better choice? and comparing with asymmetric (lovely black/red colour choice!), is it more efficient than the Wingaker? thanks.
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle Год назад
The Wingaker was ok but most of them didn’t reach the other side in the ARC. It’s less noisy than sailing wing on wing but not a lot faster. The heavy duty smaller symmetrical spi was nee for us but worked really well in the tradewinds with more wind. When the wind is close to 20 knots or higher the VMG going dead downwind is hard to beat sailing angles. The big asymmetrical spi has a lot of potential as Loïc and Matthieu showed me in LGM going constantly over 15 knots in 20-24 knots of true wind, still in the range of the max apparent wind. We’re still a bit more careful as we want to be sure we can take it down when necessary
@joaomendes7048
@joaomendes7048 Год назад

Ms Blanik is definitely your daughter from another mother. You guys look like mother-daughter. So how long is the break and will you still post videos?
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle Год назад
Due to the cyclone season we can’t cross to New Caledonia before the second half of March. The downside of being up to date with the videos is of course that we don’t have episodes in stock. So unless something interesting happens related to sailing you’ll have a halfway break too..
@SuperJV4x

may I ask you a hypothetical? imagine there was a world war and a boat could not legally enter any nation (like covid) and only anchor or land where they would be unnoticed, uninhabited islands, etc. How long do you think a yacht well provisioned and top condition could sustain itself in that situation? thanks!
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle Год назад
If there is enough sun and you would be a better fisherman than I am probably indefinitely. The watermaker runs on 24v and the solar normally produces enough energy unless it’s extremely cloudy for several days in a row. When all the cans are empty you would have to rely on fishing and what you can find on deserted land
