If Latadidi could pursue classical music instead of Hindi film music, the whole country would have become a fan of classical music. Her voice has that strength and appeal. One just wants to keep listening to her voice and brings peace to one's mind.
How one would wish that the whole country would follow classical music. Consider this: Even classically inclined music directors like Khem Chand Prakash, Naushad, Anil Biswas, Madan Mohan had only limited impact on musical tastes of the audience. Laxmikant Pyarelal began with _Kahe Tarsaaye_ in Kalavati in the early 60's. By the 70's, their music had lost the classical touch, because the audience didn't appreciate classical music. In the same way Mehdi Hassan's classical based songs & ghazals have a dwindling proportion of the audience. In fact today many program hosts in Pakistan mock Ustad's style. Comparatively only a few knowledgeable people in Pakistan & India have deep appreciation to the extent of worshipping Mehdi Hassan, Mohd Rafi - Hariharan, Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan and younger ones like Prithvi Gandharv, Pratibha Baghel ... The unfortunate fact is most people (90%) are unable to appreciate swara, laya, taal, raag...

Super classical singer i have ever heard.her voice is so soft and smooth. She sings the high notes and the lower notes with such smoothness its unbelievable. Lata ji said in an interview (interview with Javed Akhtar) that she regrets about the fact that she couldn't become a classical singer due to her family circumstances. It was one of her biggest regrets in life. Her base was classical music. She learnt classical music from her father and later Ustad Amanat Ali Khan of Patiala gharana. In many interactions, she urged people to listen classical music more.

Here you can experience the ability of a gifted Kalakar.Who can do complete justice to the tradition of pure Bhartiya Classical music. She also proved her versatility by constantly learning from other Musical Wizards. She managed to avoid cheap gimmicks of western instrumentation & tunes most of the time. It was impossible to stay in Business without that Compromise, However, She avoided it most of the time which her Sister was unable to do. Around 1950, Mr. P.R.Bhide’s institute ‘Topic’ had produced a ten- minute film on Raag Malkauns in Lataji’s voice. ( In 1959 After Sanyas was known as Swami Vijnananand, founder of Manashakti Kendra, Lonavala.) ‘Topic’ stands for ‘Theatre of Propaganda and Culture’,the promotion of culture project. The institute had made around thirty short films on numerous topics for ‘ social education and awareness’. All these short films and their negatives were handed over to ‘Famous Cine Laboratory’, Mumbai, for their preservation by TOPIC. After some time, Famous Company informed in a letter to TOPIC that in a devastating fire of 1953 all the films and negatives were destroyed. That letter is published along with this article of special issue of magazine ‘ Manashakti Diwali 1992 ’ . However, Lataji’s 10-minute soundtrack was recorded on a tape. Mr. Bhide used it for his own study and experiments. The three articles here mention about the outcome of Mr. Bhide’s experiments. After listening to the Malkauns, many were relieved of their backaches, headaches, stomach aches, toothache and so on. One should read the original articles on Music Therapy published in Manashakti Diwali 1992 & 1994. Those were the first - ever experiments in what is today is known as music therapy
