Foraging for edible wild fungi and healthy berries, post Covid Lock-down, South Island, New Zealand.
Hawthorn Berries are reportedly very good for your heart muscles. Rose-hips are loaded with Vitamin C, and make a delicious infusion/juice (after straining through muslin to remove the hairs and seeds).
Velvet Shank Fungi are reportedly anti-cancerous and are very pleasant to eat. Shaggy Parasols are right up there with the tastiest mushrooms - like Birch Boletes and Porcini.
Please do your own research, and proceed cautiously, before eating any wild food that you are not already well familiar with.

Thank you Nana: Google has only just shown me your comments. Glad you are enjoying the videos and appreciating all the simple, free and wonderful aspects of nature. I've been flat-out recently harvesting Turkey-tail; Mullein; Hawthorn & Elderflower Blossoms (for my Tonic Wines). Happy times and good health to you.

Great video as usual! Chlorophyllum rhacodes and C. brunneum are hard to tell apart. They both are present down here as well. I just refer to them as Chlorophyllum sp.

Thanks for that Tyler: I hadn't realized there was a close relative around. These ones all look like 'rhacodes' to me, with the stem thickening towards the bulbous base. These ones are also very tasty, which it seems 'brunneum' are not. There's always more to learn when it comes to mushrooms. www.mushroomexpert.com/chlorophyllum_brunneum.html

Thanks Bryn. Yes, I have had one in my veggie garden for the past week, eating all the moths. Surely the friendliest little wild birds around.

@DiarmuidNZ
@DiarmuidNZ 4 года назад
Thanks Jason: yes, even after a few frosts. I found a good edible Birch Bolete today, plus a few big old buggy ones. It's definitely the Shaggy and Velvet-ty time of year now. Just waiting for more rain to bring on more wonderful winter fungi.

Did you forage Loquats in the south island?
@DiarmuidNZ
@DiarmuidNZ 4 года назад
I have a Loquat tree in my back garden but it doesn't produce much, so the ones I used for this summer's Loquat wines were indeed foraged from Common Land in Canterbury.
