It's an unusually late fall run. The stripers are feeding on Sand Eels. I wanted to match the hatch so I used the Tsunami 7" Sand Eels with great success. Although I did miss the first cast fish which I estimated to be around 15-20 lbs. It's a long video as I did catch many fish on this day. Enjoy...

Next time take the same bait, twice the size. Start with the smaller one to find the fish and then go jumbo! Where there are small strippers, there are large. Check out the book "the right stuff" by Shawn Kimbro dude...

Great trip. I went out that day too and it was awesome. Thanks for the heads up on the eel. Good to know they catch fish. I find it hard to cast it any decent distance but fish were all hitting in the beach lip so i should have tried it.

I really never foul hooked a striper on a slow retrieve with a single hook. But it’s possible.

That's not a slow retrieve, I would retrieve it slower.

Reason you lost that first fish is your hook set is rather weak sure you’ll catch fish but you’ll lose more pit a lil better swing on that hook set remember bigger fish have harder mouths just a lil fyi from a old salt
@LesFishingMoreCatching

Yea I wasn’t really ready for it I think. Thanks for the tip and watching!

Also check your drag before your first cast. If too loose you won’t get a good hook set. Nice video!

Nice one Les, I have been eyeing that lure for obvious reasons ( the look ), however rumor has it that it casts like wet tissue paper. Cannot really see the casting range on the video, what are your thoughts on the casting range? Certainly commend your efforts, given you are more likely to cull bigger fish, the green diamond jig crew is only enjoying small schoolies.
@LesFishingMoreCatching
@LesFishingMoreCatching 4 года назад
It def doesn't cast as far as some lures but I had the wind on my back that day so it helped it get out there further. I was using the 7" model, the 8" is slightly heavier and may cast further. I did pick up a pack of the 8" to try another time. I did fish the other day using the 7" and was out catching everyone else and got into slightly larger fish. That video should be up soon as I still need to edit. Thanks for watching and tight lines!

He was casting well past the "strike zone", so distance didn't matter here.
@LesFishingMoreCatching
@LesFishingMoreCatching 2 года назад
I wouldn’t say well past cause some of my hits came as the lure landed in water in some instances but yeah that day they were much closer and there wasn’t much a sand bar.

Which size and lamiglass gsb model are you using? Thanks
@mikelight3446
@mikelight3446 4 года назад
Ok I see it now. Disregard. Looking at the 10ft gsb 1-3 oz lure rating. It listed as light power? I prefer to get Medium power but the lure rating goes up to 2-5 ox.. I normally cast bucktails soft baits and assorted super strikes up to 3oz a17 and 27s. What do u think? Thanks
@LesFishingMoreCatching
@LesFishingMoreCatching 4 года назад
I'm using the 9' GSB91MS. I would ignore the power rating and look at the lure casting weight instead. The 10' 1-3oz would be perfect. The 2-5oz models for me I would never probably use as I never use anything over 3oz. I throw 3/4th to 2oz mostly.
