it was the heroin, he's 13 yrs clean now, thank God for that...he is amazing, an incredible talent...he's always worn the bandana on his wrist....God bless him...
Steve was raised in Texas, about 30 miles from where i was raised, we are both hillbilly then, i reckkon....i thank God he survived his addictions, just like i am surviving mine, and he has been able to continue sharing his gifts with us all..
I grew out in eastern Kentucky i we all love Steve he is a folk hero I got a chance to see him live in Atlanta Georgia a couple years ago he was amazing
There is a live version of this song on "shut up and die like an aviator" - it's got a full band with guitars, drums, mandolin even bagpipes. That version is great, but to see it done so simply and just as effectively with the mandolin alone is awesome and shows what a master Steve Earle is.
Steve's an amazing live artist, what you see is what you get or vice versa.... here he is pretty close to when he got taken away, still could make it on his own... some got it, some don't.... glad he's clean now and we had the oppurtunity to enjoy his musical genious for so long time.
Sh!t i like watch this far too much More than twice a day. Watch Steve Earle more than twice a day. Wanna know why? I got an addiction. My addiction is called Steve Earle. Its been a great! Music is a natural high given to us by great singer/ songwriters who only get better as they. master their art. Music Is Life That's Why Our Hearts Have Beats.
I just saw Steve do his Jerry Jeff tribute tour in Santa Fe. Great show (we had to line dance forever to Copperhead Row as extras in the movie Only The Brave).
There was a Rock Radio program in Houston (KSRR 97 ROCK) who interviewed Steve back in 1989 or 90. Steve was hoarse and said he felt pretty bad but the DJ badgered him about singing playing to a canned backing track. Earle politely declined 3 times and pointedly said, "I'm gonna save what I got left for the fans tonight." I've thought that was very responsible of him. The DJ was a guy Handled "MOBY". We haven't heard anything about him since.
Steves personal life has nothing to do with the great music he worte. He is an artist and playes what he feels. You watch too many soap tv shows. Love him or leave him. Don't cut him up! We all have shit going on!
Idk about that. Steve has written some really great songs bc he had alot of stuff in his life that most of us will thankfully hear in song and not live
There's a story where Steve say's Townes himself told him he looked horrible and better slow down a bit. In the midst of his heroin years in this clip and thank god he got better.
Do you have a video of Cocaine Cannot Kill My Pain from the Texas Connection? He sings that one with such pain its on the verge of disturbing to see but is so emotionally done... If you can find it check it out, best Steve performance I've seen yet
I'm glad his guitar didn't sound like the others, cas then we wouldn't have Steve Earl !!! That guitar or instrument you play sounds so GOOD !!! Love that song !!!

I think he looks amazin'and it's so cool he is playing a plugged in mando.....this guy is a lot smarter than people think..he's articulate, witty, has great musical taste and is so beautiful....
I don’t think he looks bad either. I know he had a drug problem but I don’t think he looks crazy. I’ve seen some old footage of Johnny Cash where Cash looked lucky to live through his addiction.
Steve Earle woke up hungover and still a junkie and sees his son playing with daddy's pistol so Earle goes out on a campaign to ban citizens Rights. Then he befriends a convicted murderer on Death Row and wants to save him. Not exactly a friend of yours is he? Try using your head for something you actually know about. I have lived long enough now to be disgusted with you children especially those who leave vapid comments on videos. What you say about drugs you learned from your government which means you know nothing so far. Firearms or Steve Earle? I will choose firearms and Steve Earle can keep his freedom of expression which he has and it was paid for and protected by the blood of citizens who you don't even know. Maybe he can write a song about that while you all cream your encrusted panties. Moment of silence please...
@bassmasterkt it's Little Rock not "little rock", I'm a born Arkansan who married into Texas and aint never goin' back again, but I still have respect for Arkansas, Home of Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash
Texas is legendary for producing first class musicians...Austin is the Live Music Capital of the world and lil ol Lubbock is an incubator for Austin bound musicians..I'm a native Texan and believe there's only two states..Texas and not Texas.....regardless of what you think about the Lone Star state..Texas' musicians speak for themselves..
i think this was not a good time in Steve's life, i have loved his music for years, Jerry Jeff's, too, both wonderful talents who have seen their share of the hell in life...but, God bless them both, keep rockin'!!
He does talk a lot, check out some of the interviews he's done. You should hear him go on about Bush and the war! I love'im, seen him live a couple of times, and I like what he says with or without music.
Read his book, he tells about leaving tye hospital in Nashville and standing at an intersection, stoll wesring his hospital gown, trying to score drugs 😂
steve earle wasnt actually born in texas according to legend, but did first set foot in texas soil furnished by his grandparents and carried around in a shoe box.according to legend
hey, some of the best musicians in the world were born and raised in Texas, or grew up there. don't make fun of Texas please. i am a native Texan and, all things considered, i am proud of my home state.
Steve financed every crackhouse in Nashville until he'd sold his last guitar, I've heard him say it was mourning Townes that started it and his own brand of Townes's self destructivenes that kept it going. The fact that he's still with us is a gift from either god or Stephen F Austin
@@TR-yi8up Mmm. That timeline is a bit messed up alright, in that case he'd already been to rehab countless times and was successful once..(apparently before his problem even started! Idc who you are, that's some Nostradamus shit!) Love Steve Earle, and his late son Justin. You do get the feeling that having talent this pure isn't easy. Makes sense, cos if it was everyone would be doing it! (And doing it Justice)
It’s sad watching people this way. I suffer from severe alcoholism so I get it. I pass ZERO judgement. It’s a severe sickness. Anyone who says addiction isn’t real…punch that person in the face.
The brain causes addictions are genetic . Many of my family members hsve passed away due to alcoholism, the youngest, my cousin, she was only 23vyears old The brain, that one organ that tries to control us, it will win, if you don't try every 2nd of every day to stop it from taking over it will kill you. I am the only child from my mother, grandmother, great grandmother who has fought like fuck to not follow in their footsteps. I broke the cycle. I passed ma knowledge on to my kids. I educated them. Their father died because of it too, before he was 50 yrs old. He chose his own path. He chose alcohol. I chose my kids. I chose life. He chose death. My kids, They do not drink or smoke. They never got involved in social drinking either. One is now 30ys old, the other is 28. Everyday since they were young, i gave them my all. I see the rewards of my hard work. It fills my heart with such joy . They seen how it affects and kills . By The Grace Of God Goes I .
When I said he looked creepy, and blaming the 80's, I guess I'm referring more to his earrings, the bandana on his wrist, that sort of thing. The scary eyes and mustache could be the coke.
