Late Season Idaho Elk Hunt | Icon Tour | Ep. 6 

This video really brings justice to what a lot of hunting actually looks like not just killing stuff first ten minutes but actually hunting and seeing the low moments

Most of us can only live this vicariously through people like you.

Hunting the rain is just part of it on the coast. We tend to hunt the thick timber bedding areas. With the forest cover and being on the none wind side of the mountain it dampens the rain or storm a lot and those are the pockets you find the animals. It’s the motivation part that’s tough, coming back to camp drying off and getting warm then wanting to put on your gear and go back out. Hunting with buddies makes all the difference, got to push each other.

I have so thoroughly enjoyed watching this Idaho Elk Hunt series. Though you might be unsuccessful in your hunt, the scenery has been absolutely beautiful and breathtaking! I'm gonna have to add Idaho on my "places to travel to."

In the rain we do just what you do, hang out in the trailer or tent. Tyler needs to put his Yankee hat back on for more good luck!

Sometimes a hunt is a hike. That was a good hike! Always good to be outside!

Man, the opportunity to hunt is something we can’t forget to appreciate. Even in the weather, miles, bumps, and bruises.

Putting in those hours this year. You will get the one when it’s time. Don’t let the rain and bad weather wear you down. It always gets a little easier when you have good friends with you to go through the same struggles as you are.

It’s good to see how you trudge through positively, even during challenging times.

Rain is my nemesis when hunting. I love getting out in a light snow, but rain just seems to drive the animals to bed.

Good video, it’s good to show the work and suffering that doesn’t always result in a critter on the ground. That’s what hunting is and it’s wonderful (even if it doesn’t feel like it in the moment).

Things don’t always go according to plan! I just broke my foot 10 miles into the selway on a bear hunt and hiked out on a broken foot. You’re doing better than me! Beautiful country you guys are in.

Rain or shine just keep on grinding! Also there is nothing like a good warm fire on them bad weather days to help lift the spirits.

His dedication is the best thing about his videos, he keeps on keeping on. I love that he post the bad hunts also it shows new hunters that’s it’s not all sunshine and rainbows but when the sunshine shows it’s all worth it

Kudo’s Ross for keeping an optimistic attitude on your hunt. Hunting in the rain can be so tough in those Burn areas because those elk will lay low in the thicker timber. I have had some very good luck hunting elk in the rain in non-burned areas where the forest is really thick and there is a canopy. It’s a pretty bad sign when you pull out your raincoat and your puffy more often than you do your spotter is your wingman indicated. Good luck on your next episode. Great episode. I was on edge waiting for that gun to go off. Sucks to have all that confidence in your rifle and shooting but the animal just doesn’t stop. Cool part is you get to keep hunting.

Definately hard to want to go out when it's raining, best thing about it though is there is usually less competition. Great series, can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

I've been on a lot of nature hikes in my days. some of my best times. I hate the Rain do not like getting soaked. but man right after a good rain the best.

Yes, that was one of those messy hunts that comes along once in a while that we have no control over. Still it was an interesting and enjoyable hunt and elk were seen, just not that many elk. This is what hunting is all about. On those rainy days, sleep is good to catch up on, nothing else to do except play cards 🃏!

Hunting in the rain is sometimes better especially here in the pacific north west. Your right about the snow but it rains more than snows here.

Here in south west Washington I just put on the best rain gear I have with me and head into the timber and hope for the best. Good luck.

Rain can make or break a trip for sure! If it’s cold I’ll sock in and just read etc for the day. If it’s not (Arizona, NM) throw on some rain gear and send it!

I don’t even like duck hunting in the rain. Hahahaha. I’ll hunt all day in the snow, don’t get wet. Same with work, I work on power line. I’ll work all day in the snow, hate working in the rain. Keep on pushing, only way for success. Have you heard any wolves or seen any sign while out? Keep it up, look forward to next episode!

Seeing some cool country and a few elk. I grew up hunting in the rain all the time soaking wet. I live in a drier place now and don't hunt in the rain much. If it's raining and the last day I'll hunt but will skip days it's pouring if I have time.

Living on the oregon coast rain is pretty much a given if its not raining its probably foggy so good rain gear and keep on hunting cant let it stop you

Elk or no elk there is nothing like being out in the woods and enjoying gods country and good friends. Good question Ross, hunting in the rain is never ideal but, i feel like having good gear would help you stay out glassing longer I need to invest in some 😂

When I was you age I didn't let the rain stop me from going out hunting. I'm older now and I find it just as productive to find a glassing spot out of the rain.

Good to see someone showing that you have to work for it. And not every hunt fills tags, but they are still considered successful.

Nothing can be more frustrating than starting a fire in the rain.

That was a pretty exciting start to a hunt! I have hunted in the rain multiple times while deer hunting. But, I was lucky and was in a ground blind both times so it was not that bad. I do think hunting like you do (via stalking) would make a rainy day pretty rough and draining. But, our ancestors prob. didn't let rain stop them from hunting a meal and we have rain gear in todays world. So as long as you have rain gear I would have to say it wouldn't be to terrible I guess.
