Melissa is slug hunting over a large corn field in west-central Illinois when she sees a buck that got away just a few months earlier during bow season. After having him inside 20-yards during the rut, this monster 9-point wasn't so lucky the second time around. For more, visit www.MelissaBach...

People that consistently watch Melissa's hunts would realize that she shoots far LESS animals than she lets move on by. Like me, she enjoys watching the animals as much as making the shot and harvesting the meat. She is careful not to make careless shots and shows far more patience than most young people I know these days. Managing our wildlife is a part of "protecting" our wildlife and environment. If people would pay attention to what happens to the wildlife in over-crowded areas (disease, etc), they would realize how necessary it is to keep these animals under control. Also, note that Melissa hunts a lot of private land (not my fav kind of hunt...BUT) and I believe private land owners still have the right in this country to manage their property as they please as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others or break any existing laws. I applaude Melissa for her intelligence, her respect for the environment AND for breaking the barrier of what was once a male-dominated occupation - outdoor Television.

***** I wouldn't normally reply to such a comment but I must ask? Would you talk that way to your Mom or Grandma? I am a both. My parents raised me to believe that only those with a limited vocabulary use foul and vulgar language and I taught my children the same. It is so easy to sit at a key board and say things that would not be said to a person's face. Thankfully, we have the right to free speech in this country but NOT hate speech. I would not dare to infringe on your right to participate in a legal activity that you enjoy or that would feed your family. I am grieved by the lack of respect I am seeing these days and I am saddened by the fact that tolerance seems to only run one way.

These animal rights activist really don't understand the ecosystem. They can't see beyond their nose and see the whole picture. Let me fill them in on a few things. Things have changed since USA was founded. More and More people have moved in and that means less habitat for the animals. The Fish And Game Commission was established to preserve the wildlife and to study the animals and there eating habitats, there territory, breeding habits and the list goes on. Animals are territorial and there habitat can only sustain a few. When they get over populated animals move into urban areas. Then people complain that animals are moving in and destroying their property. When in reality the animals were there first. We see people moving in and building big houses on big plots of land and destroying habitat for animals. Animal rights activist should put all their emphasis on protecting habitat not harassing hunters.

When habitats get over populated by animals the Fish And Game Commission issue hunting permits to keep that balance equal for all animals. And the money from the permits go into keeping and preserving animal habitat and for Game Wardens to keep a safe and secure environment. Yes it is sad that we have to kill off some of the animals but it is a must to preserve them. Man with his big homes and land plots are destroying habitat and this is the real reason for hunting. I live in a place where the deer population has got out of hand. Deer are being killed everyday by automobiles. I my self have hit two and totaled one of my vehicles. There have been 4 fatalities in the last year cause by deer. I have seen deer hit by an automobile where they are wounded (broken legs) and drag themselves along till someone shoots them. Also the large deer population causes damage to the farmers crops. They eat and trample food that is grown for human consumption.

MWRgibson R It use to be you had to draw for a deer permit and didn't know if you would get one. Now the Fish And Game Commission made it so all hunters can get a deer permit either sex buck or a doe. Yes hunters hunt for trophy. Trophy animals are the ones that have been around for awhile. They get old and weak to where a hunter finally shoots them. The younger and stronger push them out and the ecosystem goes on. We the people should put our emphasis on sustaining habitat for animals and not harassing hunters!!!!!! The Fish And game Commission work to keep a balance in nature, to sustain habitat and we the people need to work together to help them. Hunters and non hunters. Habitat is what animals need!!! I would rather see a animal shot by a hunter then to see a animal suffer from starvation or wounded by an automobile. Either way animals will get killed by hunter or by automobile. Much better by the hunter

why just go for bucks? Doe taste the same and plus you can't eat antlers. Deer hunting isn't just for harvesting a trophy buck, its to harvest meat for you and your family and have fun doing it. If you only get buck tags then I fully understand. I am a subscriber and I love your videos but thats just one thing I don't get.

+kyle turnwald where i hunt its not even legal for me to shoot a doe. it doesnt make one bit of sense. We have so so so many doe but not alot of big bucks because we are only permitted to shoot bucks.

yes exactly! my province (live in canada) doesnt realize its a terrible way to manage the deer population! aahha we would have more male deer if people could shoot female deer aswell, which would produce a higher and more equal male to female ratio within the deer population, this would long term = more whitetails. This is coming from a 16 year old, and is something that seems so obvious to me, dont know why people dont understand this. Also keeping around old mature females is pointless, as they have most likely stopped procreation (mating) after a certain age.

kyle turnwald usually when you hunt with an outfitter, like GTW, you are hunting for “Trophy” animals. GTW has a strict management criteria. For each farm there are a certain amount of hunters assigned so there’s no over hunting. So this means you can only hunt/harvest Trophy animals. This way most of the younger bucks get a chance to grow and mature. Later in the season is when does are taken to help thin the herd. Each farm that GTW lease or own are managed for the proper doe to buck ratio. Too many doe’s can cause massive over feeding which affects all of the animals. This type of management is crucial for a healthy herd to thrive. Also, ALL of the properties GTW manage are fair chase, open areas. So no animals are “High Fenced” easy deer. I hope this helped.

That is all I hunt with Shotgun and Slugs, I’m not a field hunter, I like thickets and swails/ and swamps, harder to drag them through that’s why I have a strapping 32 year old son for! He’s not a hunter! But he is strong and can haul!
