There is no shortage of LED alarm clocks and at £18.99 this one from LATEC is by no means the cheapest.
The clock follows a format most of us will know, with a large, bright, clear colour LED display with a range of controls on the rear and large Snooze and Light buttons on the top. The clock has an internal battery or can be powered permanently through the USB charging port. It comes with a well printed and easy to read user guide and a short standard USB charging cable. Build quality is excellent and although rather lightweight, the clock feels robust enough for extended daily use.
Setting the clock is easy enough, all the rear buttons are large, easy to operate and clearly marked. Here you can configure the time, the two separate alarms, and select from the range of alarm sounds on offer. There are thirteen sounds available and although small the sound from the built-in speaker is excellent with none of the alarms sounding harsh or tinny. There is a backup battery to remember key settings when the power is off.
When the alarm is set the large soft-touch button on the top can be used to temporarily silence the alarm sound to snooze for about five minutes. Next to it is another easy access button to set the front panel display light level.
The clock will run for about three days on a charge and will automatically turn the bright and colourful display off after a few seconds. Tapping the display will turn it on again, as will any noise over 90db, a handclap will do the job. When plugged in the display is always on, although the 4 stage light level can be changed. The display shows the time, current temperature and has a low battery level warning.
For what it does this is a great little clock. It looks good, sounds good and is easy to use. On the other hand, it is rather short on features - no radio, external charging port, etc - with many better specified and cheaper rivals. However, it does what it does very well and that may be worth paying a bit more for.
