Latent heat:
The heat energy which has to be supplied to change the state of a substance is called its latent heat.
Latent heat does not raise (or increase) the temperature. But latent heat has always to be supplied to change the state of a substance .The word ‘latent’ means ‘hidden’.
The latent heat which we supply is used up in overcoming the forces of attraction between the particles of substance during the change of state. Latent heat does not increase the kinetic energy of the particles of the substance, so the temperature of a substance does not rise during the change of state.
Latent heat is of two types:
Latent heat of fusion
Latent heat of vaporization.
Latent Heat of Fusion (solid to liquid change):
The heat which is going into ice but not increasing its temperature, is the energy required to change the state of ice from solid to liquid (water). This is known as the latent heat of fusion of ice (or latent heat of melting of ice).
The latent heat of fusion (or melting) of a solid is the quantity of heat in joules required to convert 1 kilogram of the solid (at its melting point) to liquid, without any change in temperature.

To anyone who's still confused.. Let me help you dear!! ❤ Latent heat means Hidden heat. When you heat a substance, for example Ice, it absorbes the amount of heat which is given to it and makes the heat hidden.. Let me explain it with the example:- 1) Take some Ice cubes into a beaker and place it onto a bunsen burner. 2) Place a clinical thermometer🌡️ into it and allow the heat to flow through it. 3) Mark your observations after every 30 seconds. Observations:- You'll see that the ice cubes will melt at 0°C which is the Melting point of water. Also, you'll see something suprising and strange, it won't increase the temperature after 0°C. Like, you'll see the Ice being melt but you won't see the actual Temperature. This happens because the ice absorbs all the heat which is given to it and doesn't allow the heat to flow anywhere. So, it won't flow in the clinical thermometer and it won't show the actual Temperature. Now after sometime, it converts into liquid state, which is water and again, the clinical thermometer starts to increase its temperature (because the state got changed). Now, you'll see that at 100°C, the water starts boiling and again, you won't be able to see after 100°C. Same in this case, the water also absorbs the heat which is given to it and doesn't allow it to flow!! So, you'll able to see the water boiling but the temperature won't change from 100°C, like in Ice's case, it wasn't changing from 0°C. Hope this helps!!

Your Teaching is so simple still I m confused with the term Latent Heat. I guess I have to rewatch it 10 more time to get it correct. And Your Explaination is very good. I m below level intelligence.
