Finally got around to welding on our cow headlock panel to finish them up. Only took three years to get around to hooking up our portable PTO generator, dragging out our AC buzz box welder and a grinder and getting the job done!
Clover Mountain Dairy is a seasonal Certified Organic small dairy farm located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Northeast Washington State near the town of Chewelah. In addition to being Certified Organic, we practice regenerative farming practices to improve the soil and for carbon sequestration. We are 100% grass fed and utilize managed intensive grazing (MIG) where we rotate them through our permanent pastures. Our herd is completely A2/A2 and we practice calf-sharing, not separating the babies and letting the cows raise their own calves. The mommas do a wonderful job! We process our own milk here on the farm. We gently vat pasteurize the milk and bottle it as creamtop whole milk, chocolate milk, Caffe Latte, and Eggnog (seasonally). We also make a full-fat cream top yogurt and assorted cheeses. All our fluid milk is bottled in glass returnable milk bottles. Our glass milk bottles are reused multiple times! The ultimate recycling! We market our milk through our local farmer's market and on farm sales. We are both military veterans and first generation farmers.

When I was a kid, they were called stanchions and made out of wood. But that was back east many years ago. You have a beautiful setup.
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 2 года назад
Stanchion is still a pretty common term. When I think of stanchion, I think of a lockup for milking. If just for feeding, I think headlocks. That’s just me though.

Hey Stacey, that looked like hot work. Seems to me the cows would soon learn to not stick their heads through that contraption. Anyhow good job. Guess the herd was too busy grazing to watch you. Stay well.

Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, if it wasn’t for the yearlings, I would have never bothered with the spacers. But since I had the welder out anyway, I figured why not? Hatfield sent the spacers to me for free since it was their mistake. Are you our neighbor up the hill?

Don't believe I've ever started a grass fire trying to be a welder. Usually I end up setting myself on fire...is your next welding job the stainless pipe for the pipeline? Keep up the great work!
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 2 года назад
It’s never too late to add something new to your resume! Actually, in regards to the pipeline, all the stainless pipe is in. I need to install a bigger vacuum pump, which I have and have already rebuilt (DeLaval 76) and run the PVC vacuum lines. Haven’t done much on it lately with haying and breeding going on.

@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 2 года назад
Yes, we are (slowly) putting in a pipeline. Don’t worry, we’re taking footage of it, so they’ll be a video. All the stainless pipe is in, and I’ve rebuilt the vacuum pump. I have most of all the parts and pieces, but I need to run the PVC vacuum lines and then some other odds and ends. Stay tuned!

How's your pipeline coming along I have headlocks in my freestall barn for years I just replaced all of them this year with your new pipeline are you going to have clean in place in the parlor with your nupluse claws or are you still going to have to take them into the milk house and are you going to have a automatic pipeline washer or do it manually
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 2 года назад
All the stainless pipe is installed. Yes, we’ll CIP the machines in the parlor.We’ll run our wash cycles manually. Next step is installing the bigger vacuum pump (DeLaval 76) and running the PVC vacuum lines.

How much did it cost to start up your milk bottling creamery? Im 13 and i wanna milk cows when im older except not on a small small scale like you guys, i want atleast like 30 but no more than 80.
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 Год назад
We built our barn ourselves with a minimum of hired labor and spent about $150,000 in supplies and equipment. That was 3 years ago, so prices have changed. Good luck on starting your dairy!
@isaacberlin6191
@isaacberlin6191 Год назад
@@vnthomas16 Thanks! i agree with your creamery movement! i think any dairy farm should have nomore than like 90 cows at the absolute most. The big farms make all dairy farms look bad. Also I do not like milking in parlors so i would milk in the old fashioned stanchion or tiestalls
@robert8451

Do you breed your jerseys with jersey or are you using beef bulls wouldn't be cheaper for you to buy jersey replacement heifers instead of raising your own or are jerseys not as available in your area
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 2 года назад
We breed both Jersey and cross with Angus. We’re a closed herd, so we’ll never buy in Animals. There’s no certified organic dairies around us anyway.
