As you know maple season has come to an end. Therefore, I thought it was time to switch gears and share a little bit about what's going on at our dairy farm!
We are located in Western New York and have just shy of 6,000 head. If you have any questions about dairy farming and our operation please ask below and I'll make a video!

Your dad is pretty good with a stick welder. His massive amount of experience shows up in that last scene with him welding.

You got that right. Dad can literally fix and do everything and anything. I'm pretty spoiled having a dad that can do it all.

Great videos. I love to see what goes on in your world. As others mentioned, we'd hate to see your dad get injured. @1:34 cut-off disks break, and when they do they fly outward, slicing everything in their path. Best to wear a full face shield, and keep the guard on the angle grinder. @3:02 when welding galvanized metal, the zinc coating turns into highly poisonous fumes. You need to be sure to strip the coating off the area you're welding, and also wear full fresh air supply welding gear.

Look for 'Cold Galvanizing" paint wire brush the welds and paint so they last as long as possible!

You got me curious about that as well due to a project I have with some galvanized grain bins and I see at least some types say they work as a primer which is what I would be after and Nikki's project as well. Zinc rich paint is what it is although I expect like anything there are superior products within that field. I did a search and one that struck me for its explanation was this one ( of course stupid expensive LOL ) www.fastenal.com/products/details/0815248

ya gotta love mud season in the northeast! makes life interesting next will be the blackflies, then the heat still dont know what part of the adirondacks ya go to just you or does yer dad get to come along to for a little vaca

We still use almost all old international tractors. About 5 years ago we replaced our headlocks just like the headlocks your dad just replaced.

I didn't know you had a Dairy side of your operation.I grew up on a family Dairy Farm.I left at 19 And since 84 Been a professional truck driver still to this day.My Brother stuck with the cows a one man operation and some part time help

Hopefully you dad and warren had plenty of milk to drink while welding galvanized metal. The fumes will get to you, that is an old school fix. Great job looks very nice!

I really hope Your Dad ground of the galvanizing before he started to weld. If he never done this then please ROAST him and make sure he does ok, as we want him around for a lot longer.

I am impressed with your dad being able to weld those pipes using stick as it doesn't look like that thick of a material and so easy to burn through with stick vs mig, curious what rod size/type he was using on the headlocks. Have you done some welding yourself Nikki and regardless, by all means video yourself welding even if it looks like bird crap ! . I think your dad is in need of a full face shield though for grinding etc ( I hate goggles because I have to wear glasses and they fog up instantly inside of them )

Cool stuff! There alot of work but man it makes working the caves faster. Do you guys have a vet that comes out weekly to do heard check of the dairy cows? I enjoy the mixture if videos. Having been on a farm some growing up and with my dad being a vet it's neat to see other operations and hear how they do things.

@@MapleFarmer just use the fork as teaching tool. If they fail work quick enough there are alway time wasteing events that can be curtailed during learning. Like eating and sleeping. Good motivation makes very careful workers
