Why isn't the world collectively working towards making this a reality. What can we do to speed up the process. There are so many people suffering day in and out on dialysis, there must be some way to speed up this process.

I wish physician have the power to drive direction of healthcare. There are a lot more factors to dictate. If it was me, I would dump billions of dollars into this.. But, for now... this is the situation.. if you look behind, each person will find a reason from their angle.. I see misey every day in the eyes of the dialysis patients. I know, I see it... @@TheVirtualNephrologist I have idea, I try to write for every charity company that I can about Kidney X initiative, with question about funding, maybe it will work, if you can do this from your or some higher people account, who is the most influential human in your circle, from theory of 5 handshakes if everyone in the world reach of 5 people, we can find someone with enough money to do this.

I was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome at one year old. I had a transplant when I was 8 years old. My mother donated. I lost that kidney at 19 due to noncompliance. I had to spend 15 years on dialysis before I was accepted onto a transplant waiting list. I did 3 years of hemo and 12 years of PD. This coming January 13 will be the 6 year anniversary of my second kidney transplant. I am doing very well with my new kidney. I learned the hard way to take care of myself and always be compliant with my medication, water intake, and diet. The artificial kidney is encouraging but like you said it is years away. Something transplant patients can rejoice over now is that a law was passed in the US to provide Medicare coverage for their antirejection medications if they have no other insurance.

January 1-2023 is the begining of a new era, where transplant patient will no longer have to worry about 36 months. UCSF has been working on this over 10 years now, I and other ESRD patients are praying this gets to us all. Years and years and there is always a reason why it’s not ready. Technology and invention has helped everyone else, but dialysis patients we are getting left behind. All we’re left with is hope ( smaller machine, but isn’t dialysis done the same way today as when when it was invented almost 100 years ago? )

People talk about how much kidney disease and dialysis cost for the country but dont give super good Projects like this money it is stupid. This will be so good being way more effective than dialysis. And people this will be golddn for people with autoimmuedisease that dont have to take 4 transplants in there life

Can not wait for this to become commercially available! This represents hope to so many. I know UCSF is working on progressing to live trials and I hope to get my partner accepted into them. In 20 years time these will be common and hopefully everyone who needs it will be able to get a bioidentical kidney!

I saw and Q&A with the Dr from the kidney project behind this device and according to him, RESOURCES / FUNDING is the issue and what's slowing them down. If he had to estimate the amount needed to purchase parts and labor etc it would be close to 10 million dollars. In this country that's NOTHING BUT WE ARE NEVER GOOD AT PRIORITIZING THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF CITIZENS. I sent them a message suggesting that they reach out to CELEBRITIES with CKD and who have had kidney transplants like Selena Gomez, George Lopez, Tracy Morgan etc. Who better to help fundraise, raise awareness and be closely affected by this breakthrough. We could all also reach out to them all on social media. Strength in numbers. Spread the word. We all have to be just as aggressive and not PASSIVE IN MAKING THIS A PRIORITY.

I don't know what point they are with this research but I have been following the news of this research for the past 20 years. At a certain point I was quite upset because they made it seem like a breakthrough. I thought they had tested it on humans and it had proven functional for at least 20 years with at least an ideal 98% success rate. But then everything got silent. If this were successful then transplant patient will never have any need for immunosuppressive drugs. How cool is that!

the problem with kidney transplants is that's it's a temporary fix, meaning your typical kidney transplant only last 12 to 15 years on avg. So its not a viable solution for anything long term. Not to mention you have to take immune suppressants so that your immune system doesn't start attacking the kidney, all the while leaving you more vulnerable to viral and bacterial infections. Sure it's a better option, than being on dialysis, but it's not a permanent solution. This is why artificial kidneys will be a game changer. It will be a long term solution, without having to compromise your immune system in the process.

Not for dialysis, but there are plenty of strategies for CKD, Like SGLT2 inhibitors, and now Ozempic... to prevent and reduce the risk of ESRD and Dialysis www.TheVirtualNephrologist.com

I have gone through kidney transplant surgery 4 years ago , but now my bp is a bit high , i am on tacrolimus 2*2 mg , mycofen 360*2 mg , prednisolone 5 mg , nifidifine what should i do to improve kidney function, i have 1.92 creatinine

They estimate the gfr to be 30. they Even said it is possible to Get 100gfr but in the meantime they Are focusing on getting the device to clinical trials with 30 gfr because you arr healthy with it

I really hate to sound pessimistic, but too much money is made from dialysis. They will make this as difficult as possible to get for people that need it it! 😢 if somehow this gets through, they will try to make it as profitable as possible. The welfare of a kidney patient is not priority!!!!😞 It's all about the mighty dollar!😡

Yes that is to strike the nail on the head. We were told the device would be ready either at the end of December 22 or early in 2023. Then suddenly the track went cold. The professor leading the research announced that due to lack of funds the project could not be completed till 2030!!!!! To me this sounds like a betrayal, a sold-out.I ve to ask whether the professors have been bought by the pharmaceutical industry

I'm 29 got kidney failure at 21, I've had a human kidney tranplanted for 3 years now the future makes me feel good, I say if this kidney is to fail that's it for me unless we get this tech, I can't go back to dialysis it's torture, I can't even work normal so life is shit very shit
