Evelyn Wood loved the belt, reproduction belt clasps, the white flower - in fact, these are the kind items I gravitate towards when thrifting. Glad to know there is some one else who out there who gets joy from beautiful found objects. Fun, fun, fun - the bugle brooch is sweet. I've been very influenced by Rachel Ashwell of late - buying lots of cotton rose print pillow cases and sweet little pin dish type things. Meet ya at the thrift shoppe.... 😉
Jayne I call it treasure hunting and I love it so much! thrifting, antiquing, garage sales, piles of junk on the side of the road! I love searching for lost little treasures, and I can't help myself! It is nice to know that there are others that love it just as much!!
Another fabulous thrift haul! I love the black cardigan and think it will be lovely with little pearls on it. I also like the whit flower and green too. Cannot wait to see the refashion of that one!
I love all the Bangles and I love the Belt and I like the black sweaters. I also like the blue hat you have on in the video .I also love your chaises chair your sitting on.
I want to say your mad skills and the joy you get out of them are so amazing, please never change. I was helping a lady clean out her place under bad conditions and she asked if I would sell some of her dresses. I was going through them and found some brilliantly crafted alterations. She said that there was a dear lady she met in drug rehab who had done over her wardrobe just for fun, and she had such keen skill she had improved things in comfort and style without accepting payment. She said if I sold those dresses I should look up this lady and pay her. Then she told me her name and I literally cried. In my work with urban women who fall through the cracks I knew who that was already, the drugs and alcohol and bad choices in male companionship had left her barely able to dress herself, let alone sew anything. Once she was a sweet, talented lady such as yourself. Please tell all your ladies and gents that a clear mind is the best high, next to thrifting! God bless you.
Happy to hear you wear slips under your dresses and skirts. I do not believe women realize that slips give a finished look. Thank you for so many sewing tips I learned in Home Ec class but had forgotten and the new tips I seem to learn every video.
I like the black pleated cardigan. I could see it being used in several different decades and being dressed up or down. Thanks for sharing the gifts from your Mom. My mom also had a gift for knowing the perfect present. Your treasures brought back memories of unpacking her surprises. The necklace is divine!
Everything is beautiful, I agree, the little trumpet is to die for. But so are the earrings and brooches. You have such taste and provide the best ideas for upcycle. Thanks.
WOW!!!! This is my first time watching your video and I have to say, you are now my favorite. Love vintage anything and I have a house full to show. Wished you could see the retro dresses and jackets, among other things, I have. I imagine what I can do with every piece to create art. Looking forward to learning from you.
Thanks, Kaz! Someone on Instagram just told me they have the exact one! Their granddad got it from Egypt during WWII and brought it back! I feel mine is even more special now!
Show and Tell is my favorite. I love brooches myself, so I was drawn to the cute trumpet, and the egyptian one. The black card is super cute, can't wait to see it with an outfit. Be good to yourself, Happy Spring!
Thanks Deb! I am told the trumpet is actually a bugle! Yes, the cardi is interesting, I will have to try it on with a few things first before I find how to style it right I think!
Love all your videos....but really love the Thrifting Videos !!! I love to hear how you plan to repurpose/redesign your find items ! My favorite piece was the green top...so pretty and please share after your redesign. Also, you nails are GORGEOUS !!!
Thanks Hope! I love the green top too! I think it is going to be q quick refashion, and so thought that I might not make a whole youtube video, just post it on Instagram, but it seems everyone wants to see! So I think I will have to film it for you!
Thank you for sharing your haul. I am hard-pressed to pick a favourite, as they were all so lovely! The bangles made me laugh. All I could think of is that scene in Auntie Mame where she creates a ruckus by wearing a jangly bracelet whilst acting in a play. Esme is adorable!
Loved your show and tell! That black cardigan is so unique and pretty and the fabric of the green top is very appealing. I'll look forward to seeing how you refashion your pieces. Thanks and regards, Deb.
Nice haul, Evelyn. My favorite outfit is the geometric print dress. Love the white Egyptian brooch and the Art Deco pin. Your clinking bracelets made me smile and brought to mind an old Joan Crawford suspense movie from the 1960's called Strait Jacket. TFS.
I just love your videos!, you have a fantastic personality, very optimistic and sweet, I bet you are a very happy person :) Thank you for sharing with the world your wonderful finds!, I love to thrift shop, it's my happy place too, I often think, these items were once loved and cherished, and now they pass on to me, and eventually, I will pass them on too. I believed I was born in the wrong era. Thank you as well for the wonderful sewing advise and tips, I have discovered sewing!!, I'm now 52, but I believe is never too late to learn anything that is good. Blessings to you, for bringing a little happiness and joy to the world.
This haul is just fantastic, and for the rare pieces that I don't love as much as you do... I love your enthusiasm mos of all and that is what makes it all worthwhile. You are just so very engaging! Now, as for the pin with a camel and the pyramids... THE PIN!!!THE PIN!!!!!!!! ....wish I had bought it..sniffle. But good for you.
Oh Evelyn! I love that blouse and scarf combination you're wearing. The scarf is so beautifully presented as well (is it held with a scarf ring?). From your haul, I loved the blue belt (wow!); the black "crocheted" top is very elegant. Your mother has such wonderful taste and is so generous in her vintage gifts to you. I'm an orphan. Do you think she'd adopt me? I'd love you to be my sister.
Thanks Dorothy! This scarf I tie at the neck and just put a dress clip over the knot! Mum has excellent taste and loves op shopping as much as me! We can all go thrifting together!!!
I think that peacock brooch is gorgeous, and it's wonderful that your mum knows your style so well. Make sure to give her a big hug the next time you see her.
I love the brooches!! I have tins of them. love'm yep yep yep. Evelyn I got a great score myself recently too three sets of leather clip on shoe bows. Now I can have cute shoes too. Love your vids xx
Actually this is an a line...... but my shape makes it look like a pencil skirt!! 🤣 I hope you do make one! This one is a 70s knit fabric that I love in it too!
Always find it amazing the things you find and what you plan to do with them. Never really refashioned much -- I tend to not really enjoy looking at tons of clothing for that one true gem. Such a Joy to watch someone who does! That neckless is absolutely gorgeous; that and the red earrings would be in my bag!! Ah, you tend to get a couple pieces that are stained. Try mixing peroxide with Dawn dish soap and let set for half hour or so before washing. Dawn was made to break down the food protein and peroxide gives it a boost. Saved many garments that I felt were done for after going through the drier. I was totally shocked it works.
Hi Ms. Wood! I like just about everything you got, however, the one thing I appreciated most is that you got a slip, women just will not wear slips . I love a slip. I wear them under every dress or skirt. (I'm glad ladies are really getting into shape wear, which II've worn since I was 8 years old) when you add a nice slip with that it makes your outfit fit beautifully and very feminine. It smooths everything out.
I don't know what it is but I can't bare second hand clothes. Even if they were washed I couldn't wear them. My son is the same right from a very young age. My daughter and grand-daughter however love a good rummage ! I love your channel and what you make out of your rummaging !
I also love green. I saw a lovely black evening dress in the charity shop this morning but I didn't get it!!! Why did I leave it? And it was only £6.50. I'm going back tomorrow to get it, if it's still there.
Love your videos! You could always attach the necklace to a short (choker length?) string of pearls to add length to it without having to permanently extend the chain. Also, the "trumpet" is actually a bugle because it has no valves.
Clip on earrings can also be turned into cardigan clips to keep a cardigan in place when slung round your shoulders, just put a short piece of chain between them
Oh I was just thinking when you find your treasures you should take suggestions on what someone would like made out of it and sell it in your Etsy store..i would love that kimono shirt🤗🤗😘
I was wondering if you've ever done refashions for clients! I feel like it's such a cool niche in terms of vintage-lovers and sustainability! It'd be hard to figure out sizing when thrifting, I suppose, though.
Hi Evelyn. Great video! The enameled broaches would have come home with me too. And the trumpet! I can never resist pins and wearing them on everything. Do you have any thrift to vintage makeovers coming up?
Love your style. I am an avid thrift store shopper but do not know how to sew. I'm awesome with a glue gun though.. can't wait to see what you do with your finds.
Katieintraining I have a cabinet that I think for for CDs, it is about a meter wide and above my waist height. I have decked out the shelves with all sorts of glass bowls to store my jewellery in!
I love all the items you managed to find and get gifted. I love these type videos from you where you kind of spark my imagination with your own talent. You are the only person like you that I follow on You Tube. I am not a sewer, but I wish I had learned years ago. I especially adore the videos you have done that show the before and after of your finds. You are truly gifted with imagination and being able to see the final picture of what you want. I think you look like you have lost a little weight....and, no, you were never big to begin with....but your small waist before now looks so tiny! Ahhhhh, to dream of being there! LOL You have the knack of making yourself some of the most gorgeous items out of some of the most pitiful befores that I am thrilled to see the videos as fast as they come out! I hope you never tire of making and sharing these videos for I am sure there are thousands out there that enjoy them as much as I do.
Aww Sharon thank so much! I really appreciate that you take the time out to keep watching my videos and leaving me such a lovely comment! I am glad to hear it as I hope to inspire others to learn to sew and to do some 'make do and mend' my refashioning old clothes that would have gone into landfill otherwise! Also I just this morning put on some pants that I think are looser than they used to be, so you might be right! Aaaand, it never too late to learn sewing! Think of all the fabulous things YOU can create! xx
hahha If I see a flower print fabric, I'm like 'nice flowers'! My beau is much more specific like you, and is 'what kind of flowers are they?' So it is probably not a peacock at all! x
Great to see another op-a-holic :) the peacock broach and the green square top I definitely would not have left behind. And esme is adorable! Did you name her after someone? One of my favorite fictional characters is called Esme.
Me too! My partner and I got to go see the exhibition in Salisbury museum end of last year. Granny, Nanny and Tiffany are my favourite characters. I still have one or two Discworld book left to read, then I'll have read them all. Mindygrace
I rather like the green kimono top. You could use some of the black stripe to make a headband of some sort. Maybe even add the cream colored fabric flower!
Oh that is a great idea with the buckle! I could use it like a cardigan clip type thing with the chains!!! Thank you for the idea! I think that black cardigan will be just perfect with some little pearls on those fans!
I find that almost all of the items I thrift are in good condition and I just out through a regular wash cycle. I use a delicate cycle alot and for soaking I use a product called Napisan.
Yes they are definitely 80's larger than life clips earrings, and they definitely have the 40's vibe to them! Fashion goes in 20 years cycles, or in this case a double 40-year cycle!
Hay Evelyn. Lovely haul again. Adore the pins & earings, I especially like the Egyptian pin & fish earings. Have you ever stumbled across a find that you or someone else has noticed that it either has a good story to tell & or is worth anything? Look forward to seeing what you create with the pieces you got, (I catch up with u on Instgram, me being fuzzybabyseals.) Thank you for sharing. XX
Hi Anna! its funny you mention this, on Insta someone told me that they had the same brooch. and they their grandad brought it back from Egypt with him in WWII for her grandma! Cute right!
Vaga bones il y a 1 seconde Hi there, congrats on your founds, especially that amazing pleated blouse ! You got the eyes ! I'm a vintage hunter myself, I do that all over the world for work. I'm actually doing a video series "CALIFORNIA THRIFT TRIP" of my last vintage hunt in USA, you can access it from my channel, I will be very happy if you can have a look on it. Cheers from Paris, Victoire
It feels like showing off. Especially when you turn around and sell online for a lot more. Better if you just show us outfits we can get ideas from. And keep up on the sewing tricks.
Hi Sandra. Perhaps, if that were the case, but better off you check first as I don't sell any of these, they are my purchases for my own wardrobe, and gifts from my mum, which I am obviously not selling!
