I hope you enjoyed the thrift haul (as much as I enjoyed treasure hunting it!)! Tell me what's your favorite item? What you would have NOT left behind either??

May I ask.....what solution do you use to soak fabric with stains? I have vintage 40s tablecloths and am afraid of ruining them.

I love watching your 'shows and tells'. I'm quite a bit older than you, but I also have been waging a war on plastic, I love thrift shopping and vintage items---clothes, kitchenware, etc. I framed true vintage laundry ads to hang in my laundry room, things like that. Next purchase has to be a Western Electric rotary phone. Modern clothes/items have no character, for the most part. Keep making these videos, they're so fun!

Your thrift hauls are always fabulous! I love the ethnic embroidered blouse! That was a find! Instead of going through all the work of unpicking the seams and re-sewing them to stop the fraying, consider simply enclosing them in seam tape. If the seams on the inside are wide enough, you might also consider folding them over and stitching them down in a rather faux French seam.

Those wood hangers are for holding slacks from their hems - so they hand upside down in your closet. Thx for the memories 😉

When I visit my mom in California I love going to the swap meet(flea market). I have been going to it since I was a teenager. One of my sisters will occasionally go with me. My mom loves sitting and listening to us talk about our treasures and of course showing her. It is so much fun. I love your vintage embroidered peasant blouse. I love anything embroidered, especially vintage.

What a treasure haul!! The sheets were my favorite -- I can see a dress with many pieces, the stripes running in different directions. Such a beautiful stripe!! The white top with red embroidery is exactly why I look for tablecloths with hand embroidery. So different/so fun to wear. Haven't seen those hangers for years. My mother would hang pants upside down, folded so the front and back the pressed creases in them. I hated them but I was a kid and didn't appreciate possible other uses. Hurray you on all your finds!

love the haul and your enthusiasm which I can totally relate to! I wish there were these occasions to thrift here too! so answering your question, the thing that got me the major wow was the pattern drafting board!!! WOW!!! I am still hoping to begin again sewing all over as it's been a while...those things are rare and expensive and fab! as for the rest I really loved the single crystal drinking glass, it has such a feminine shape, all the tops, and the belt does have a retro 30ish vibe to it! love your nails!!!!💜

Amazing finds, I wish that in the UK we had places to find these sorts of treasures. I love the fold away measuring board that's what I would have definitely not left behind and the belt but I think I would use it for hair decoration. As you like vintage and the 30's do you also enjoy the music and dances. I used to do Lindy Hop, Charleston etc before becoming ill but still love the music and look of the 30's
@Evelyn__Wood

I use my cardboard grid to protect my dinning table from pin scratches and from the scissors on laying out and cutting out. My kitchen table is round so it helps on laying out and cutting out. It also helps me to fold the fabric to fit the pattern piece. I hate putting a pattern piece on a fold and wasting the rest of the fabric so I can use the grid to fold over what I need and can use the rest of the width of fabric for other things.
@cynthiahowe8697
@cynthiahowe8697 5 лет назад
I will also trace pattern pieces in different sizes onto clear plastic sheeting and use the board for that as well. I have 2 grandsons and a son-in-law that I sew for and sometimes they like the same pattern so I have a 6'4" xtra large, a large, and a medium I need to cut out so I trace each smaller size onto the clear sheeting, transfer the markings and mark which size and which piece it is on all pieces then put in a separate zip type bag which I also mark. I do this for the shirt patterns I will be making over and over. I also sew for an xs and so need to trace that out as well. I buy me a size 18 as that neckline fits me best but must increase the bust line as I am over a DD and patterns aren't made for that large of a bust so I trace the neckline and do my adjustments on the plastic sheeting.

All for buying used/vintage and keeping things out of the landfill! Once a week I go to the pay per pound thrift store in my city, and I've seen a couple of those design boards there (just plain graph ones), but as an intermediate sewist at best, with limited space in my home, I passed them by. Maybe someday. Last week at a thrift store I found my second Silex vacuum (siphon) coffee maker for $5. I had one from the 30s, this one is from the 40s. Not the fastest way to make coffee but love how they look, and the coffee tastes great.

I'm normally not into haul videos in general (imho they promote unnecessary consumerism), but I think it's v important to support op shops, thrift shops etc by shopping from these items that already exist where possible, & avoid feeding the monster that is the 'fast fashion' industry. The less waste we send to landfill, the better for all of us. PS - I had that same pattern cutting board in the 80s!

oh, oh Check the tag on the inside of that little evening bag. If it says Made in Hong Kong, you can call it vintage, since the British gave Hong kong back to China, the tags say made in China and the quality disappeared. I bought some closet "organizer" things that were As Seen On TV fro a yard sale. you were to hang many hangers from one long vertical piece with holes in it. Great, except ALL modern hangers hated it. Fat plastic hangers, good velvet hangers, my grandmother's home made satin stuffed hangers would not fit. The vintage pants hangers FIT! and they allowed me to hang some seven pairs of pants or skirts in the space of two. My jaw dropped at the little bracelet. I believe I have a necklace similar, also from thrifting. That was very nice haul video. Congratulations to the gentleman on getting a chance at nice Cardin suit. Hope he gets to it soon. Last week I bout a Calvin Klein Tuxedo (jacket, tie, pants) for my grandson for $16, only to find it ring up at $12. It will last him for e v e r !

I would have definitely grabbed that pattern grid board too! My mom has one from the 80s (possibly 70s?) that she still uses from time to time. I _may_ have to talk her into letting me have it, haha. ;-)

Great haul, everything was lovely. The belt is going to make a great accessory. My favorite was the white blouse with pearls....I love pearls. Take care.

I bought one of those folding cutting boards just a couple of months ago. I keep all of my pants and skirts in that type of hangar.
