Alicia Alvarez, professor of law at the University of Illinois, Chicago, moderated a panel on increasing access to law and justice for Latinas. The panel featured Betty Balli Torres, executive director of the Texas Access to Justice Foundation; Luz E. Herrera, professor and associate dean for experiential education at Texas A & M University School of Law; Silvia R. Argueta, executive director of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles; and Alicia Sanchez Ramirez, supervising attorney of criminal defense practice at The Bronx Defenders. These panelists represented different aspects of the legal services delivery system that helps to facilitate access to law and justice in our communities. It engaged participants in a discussion about their roles as facilitators of justice and challenges them to think about how we may re-envision the current legal service delivery model to better serve Latinx communities.
Latina Futures: Transforming the Nation through Law & Policy took place at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center on January 20 and 21, 2024. The symposium was designed by a national, multi-generational planning committee and sponsored by the Latina Lawyers Bar Association, UCLA Chicanx Latinx Law Review, and Latina Futures 2050 Lab.
