Sup people! Here's what we think of This amazing LATIN MEDLEY by Katrina Velarde👌🙌😍👌✨ Watch our latest podcast here! • ITALIAN MUSIC SPECIAL🇮... Wlsk xoxo & Efra :) / wlsk15 / realefraherrera #KatrinaVelarde #COVER #REACTION
The drummer is Katrina's longtime boyfriend Mike Shapiro. He arranged the songs. We Filipinos are the Latinos of Asia. Spain left us their language, food, religion, music and last names.
Fun Fact: Latinos & Filipinos shared the same Cultural Heritage. Rondalla was introduced by Spain to the Philippines in the 15th Century. Since then, Aside from studying Spanish, We had Operetta and Drums & Bugle Corps in our Schools. Our folks used to dance the Samba, Rumba, Cha Cha and Tango during Fiestas and family gatherings and Men, belting the song "Granada". During house party, together with classmates and friends, We loved to dance to the tune of Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman by Santanna. I learned to play the guitar in school and my sister played the banduria...Just reminiscing the good old days!😍
Of all the reactors for this Katrina's video, it's only you whom I really appreciated the most coz you really know what you're reacting. Aside from the fact that your Latinos, you also really knows how to listen in every part and details of the song like in terms of technicalities, you incredibly gave your truthful and convincing reaction to it.
Katrina's fiancé who's the drummer..he arranged this..was Sergio Mendez drummer for years..and worked with a lot of other Latin artist. That probably has a lot to do with the authenticity of it. Great reaction.
Aiiiiiiiiiii! I misssss saaallsa dancing! I'm naturalized Filipino-Canadian, born and raised in the Philippines with Filipino-Spanish-Chinese blood and this gives me goose bumps and kicking my hips to dance! **BRAAAAAPPP** Katrina's theatrical stage performance and presence was on point, charisma and audience excitement built up made this live performance so wickeddd! Absolutely brilliant!
By far this is the best, most genuine, close-to-the-heart reaction/commentary for this video. This video made me realize that yeah, I'm so sensitized by the contemporary music styles I almost forgot how beautiful a complete live accompaniment sounded like. Thank you for making me realize that.
The influence of spanish/latin here in the phils is not just in the singing and playing instruments but also with our dances. We often are champions or a placer at a ballroom contests. God bless your chanel more.
Latin music / dance influence in the Philippines is VERY STRONG. We grew up watching our mom, dad, abuela and abuelo dance to cha cha and tango on street dance parties during fiestas. For an iconic Filipino jazz musician I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOBBY ENRIQUEZ, a respected piano virtuoso in the jazz community in America, dubbed as THE WILDMAN. If you WANT timbales and congas better watch Bobby Enriquez's band.
Katrina you are out of this world! You have the most versatile and beautiful voice!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Your band is fantastic! You're the whole package! I'm Filipino, indigenous Taiwanese, French, German, Dutch, Spanish/Portuguese, and Native American! My mother is indigenous Taiwanese, Filipino, and Dutch!. My father is French, German Spanish/Portuguese and Native American! I'm all mixed up and so proud of it. Love my Filipino brothers and sisters!❤️❤️❤️
@D Back then up to 70's it was an ELECTIVE class in senior high. Then in university I believe you need a 2 year required units to finished. Then it was totally abolished. I can't remember who the president was when it was decided to abolish it.
nah!.. it was in 70's spanish officially abolished in schools.. before that spanish was compulsory but after that, no single textbook was taught atleast in public schools and it was optional in some private schools
That don't you worry bout a thing was inspired by Tori Kelly's version in Sing movie, Katrina covered the song so good! The best of all who tried to cover that really hard song! Katrina is incredible, Filipinos are incredible😊💖we have once colonized by Spanish so a lot of Filipino words sound like spanish
There’s a dialect in the Philippines called Chavacano where more than half of the vocabulary is Spanish! You must remember that the country was conquered by Spain 500 years ago. It was named after King Philip of Spain. So Spanish very much runs thru our blood. Hence many of our surnames are Spanish. We are the only ‘unofficial’ Latinos in Asia.
Top reaction once again. I enjoyed that. Latinos listening to my favorite Filipina Katrina (said that in a Spanish accent). Just a fan from South Africa here
i remember back in school growing up, you can't avoid taking an instrument what ever it is or have knowledge on any art since almost every subject in school makes you exercise your knowledge about it. like singing or perform about science or mathematics etc. lol it sound weird but works some how. i remember performing a play about mathematics when i was in high school back then lol XD
@so amazing lol, Katrina doesn't need his money though. Hahaha, Katrina has raised her family by herself and her fiance has no fucking contribution! (FYI)
Latin/ Spanish songs are sexyyy... love the beat as well.. nowadays, i tend to listen to more Latin songs i feel like it sounds refreshing away from all the nonsense current songs that lacks substance. Latin songs more often is just like ours, passionate, talks about courtship and sentimental❤️
The telenovela that the girl meant where she learned to pronounce or have some Spanish phrases might be Maria del Barrio, Marimar and others. They were so famous in the Philippines.
Wow! Just finally finished the video. She really took her time and took it easy vocally for most of it, and I was like she's got to bring some high notes toward the end, and she did and she brought the fire! That was fantastic. So much charisma, so much confidence, so much sexiness. Both from her and from the arrangement. Those musicians are fire! Thank you for doing this reaction.
Hi, Latin music is kinda innate with our roots, we know it deeply by heart. maybe because we share same hispanic heritage and in the early 2000's latin music is kinda popular here in Ph and there is this sense of connection among filipinos. it's like , yeah we know the language but we cannot understand but its familiar like that hahaha. anyway Filipinos are music genius, they arrange pieces so well, world class!!!
Yes we have more Spanish telenovelas here in the Philippines specially in the 90s... I was 14 when I saw Marimar...and now I'm 37 and they just televised again Marimar of Thalia this 2020. . 😅
@@jjbbiagcong 😂😂😂 as i have mentioned .. again and again...I'm pertaining with the language used in the telenovela not the origin of telenovela. And I've been in Mexico 4 times and i know it's a latin country.
These two are really good reactors. I mostly skip when a reactor is getting nonesense but these two can speak and they know what they're saying esp WALESKA! She's brilliant! You keep surprising me girl. She's speaking with substance! ❤️🤗
Finally you reacted to this💙 and yah, we are colonize by Spain about 300 years, so don't be surprise guys if lots of Filipinos can play and speak Spanish.💙💙
THIS IS SO AMAZING...LATIN MUSIC IS ALIVE! WHOA, IT GIVES YOU BETTER AND BETTER VIBES TO FEEL THE BEAT! THE WHOLE BAND PLAYS SO WELL, OF COURSE, ADDING KATRINA VELARDE'S TALENT. KUDOS TO BOBBY VELASCO FOR THIS AMAZING ARRANGEMENT. JUST GENIUS!
The Philippines is considered as the "Asian Latinos" because our culture are highly influenced by Spain. We celebrate Dia del Muerto every November 1. Most of the Filipinos are Catholic and we celebrate Christmas from September until 2nd week of January, much like our brethren in South America.
It reminds me of my Uncle's latin jazz band in my place, Zamboanga City,Philippines, where we speak Chavacano which is a language that came from Zaragoza Spain
By far one of the best reaction videos I've watched. This is how it should be done. No offense to others who makes reaction videos as well, but this one is like a master class. As a viewer I felt so satisfied watching this because not only that they're both likable but they really know their stuff. They dont just make faces and use power words and call it a reaction video but they appreciates and presents facts worth knowing. Bravo!!!👍👍👍👏👏👏💙💙💙
Just to update you. Katrina’s husband died last month Nov 2021. The drummer is his husband. He also arranged this medley. He is very familiar with Latin music because, he was the drummer of Sergio Mendes and Santana.
Very good reaction. True! Filipinos are not only familiar with strings, wind, drums, etc. They sing the song with the exact lyrics & pronunciation so crystal clear without dragging the lettter "R". Thank you for expertise in music instruments. Great appreciating of our similarities in music 👏 Katrina practically harvested all the greats here: great high & lows voice, amazing rhythm, her placement, incredible tone, her runs, growl, energy, and she whistle too! My gulay! In this performance, she is the only one has the right, promise! Kainis sa perfection! She is one in the world! Mayamot na si mariah, aguilera, etc. Walis na kayo dito! Uwian na!
Lol My Mom is Crazy about Tele- novelas she goes Crazy over Thalia, they are very popular hear in the Philippines and we even have a lot of Remakes with Spanish filipinos and Filipino mestizos as cast.
Music is very much part of my area here in the philippines, it is sort of normal to hear videoke or ur neighbors singing during the weekdays & mor so during the weekends. We also have a thriving guitar or ukelele making here. Jamming sessions tend to help people an instrument in which guitar & beatbox & shakers r easily become part of basics. I can remember back n skol we use our school table as sort of congo drums. Thats how i learned it & even using my ballpens as drum sticks. There are also music schools that tie up with schools to teach music & create school bands. There are schools that have their own glee clubs, bandurias, etc. There are quite a few music schools here in my city that have recitals n big malls n sort of a concert.
Thanks for this. It’s very entertaining. I love this! Kat and the rest of the musicians are incredible. Mike Shapiro is referred to have “worked with the likes of Sergio Mendes & other great Brazilian musicians like Dori Caymmi, Ivan Lins, Toninho Horta & Caetano Veloso. He also performed with the legendary trumpeter, Herb Alpert.” It’s absolutely fascinating. Thanks again. ciao! 👍🏻🤗🎶
*She was just having fun with this as something different but as usual blew it out of the water at the end.* Do you know she has done a duet with Gary on the 1st song & Gary was her 1st solo concert producer?
We still have RONDALLA in Philippines. Try to listen to our folk songs, it's mostly Latin in rhythm. Even when it comes to our dances we have Jota Manileña and a lot of Jota variations from different provincias y ciudades.
Came upon your reaction looking at Latin Medley. Several facts that might illuminate: Mike Shapiro is the drummer and her husband. He is involved in production. God rest his soul, he died in November 2021. You would find it of interest the read his bio, all of your speculation will be answered. Quite a portfolio of artists he had worked with of Latin fame. I mean A LOT!! Thanks for your thoughtful reaction. Hope I can help with filling in the blanks.
80s-90s cha cha or ball room dancing were the trend in the PH. Guess what?most of the music filipino play were latin music. And every day filipino also watched latin telenovelas in that time
just a bit of background, the Philippines was colonised by the Spaniards for about 333 years. So, you could just imagine the level of influence of Spanish and latin culture and music to the Filipinos.
We have part of the Philippines called Zamboanga speak spanish, they speak Chabacano, chabacano is latin one of hundreds languages in the Philippines. Remember Spain take over our country for 5 hundred years, that is why most of our last name is spanish or latin.
Music schools in the Philippines are expensive, so most singers are just self trained and belters dip their bodies in water til neck level then sing to strengthen their lungs. Also, Waleska reminds me of the RU-vid baker Rosanna Pansino.
Filipinos have their own original songs, but our 'harana and kundiman" songs were inspired by the spanish songs, thats why filipinos are very familiar with latin songs and instruments. Our lolos and lolas sing LATIN songs in the PABASA, a filipino tradition during holy week. And when karaoke was not yet invented, our titos and titas sing latin songs during celebrations or gatherings using guitar, marakas and any available latin instrument there is. They used to sing the songs of "Trio Los Panchos". The most popular Latino Singer here in the Philippines at that time. They also composed a song "FILIPINAS" which they played during their concert here in the Philippines
You're more likely be introduced to music, specifically playing instruments in HS through Drums and Lyres. Guitar is a natural progression from singing accompanyment but you learn music in the Philippines through percussions.
Best reaction video so far. They literally know exactly what they’ve talking about music, instruments, like even appreciate and notice the minor details in it.
I always love how you guys talk about things relevant to the video, it feels more sincere rather than just saying a thing or two complimenting the videos. Nice to see that you two enjoyed watching her sing Latin songs.
Here in the Philippines playing musical instrument is not really pushed that hard but this is being taught from primary schools up to secondary & in the university, many offer degree in music. I also believe many Filipino musicians learned music thru self study esp if they are so much into it. !
Wow!! She was sooo amazing the band as well. What I needed today. Loved also your enthusiasm towards the performance. As for the music, I think the similarities may steam from both Latin American countries and the Philippines being under Spanish colonial rule. With perhaps the Philippines longer than most. Makes me wonder who then is more “Latin”? What makes one “Latin”. Hmmmm. I get what you mean when your voice changes. When I speak Japanese my voice definitely higher, but also my whole body and mannerisms changes too.
Spanish , Latino's Really Share a lot of similarities when it comes to Attitude , Feelings , Vibes and Tastes on every aspect ☺️ Hola Como estas from La Isla Filipinas 🇵🇭Ayudemos a que este canal de youtube crezca más ♥ ️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Music in the Philippines has been uniquely shaped (for better or for worse) by all the cultures that not only surround it but also by those who have occupied it. Our food, language, music, dances, traditional clothing, musical instrumentation (eg. the prevalence of the guitar), and our musical tastes have been influenced by Asia, Indomalayan, Pacific Islands, American/Western (from WW2 occupation), and, most relevant to this video, Spain (from the 333-year colonization). And that’s what makes Filipinos uniquely Filipino. ❤
I remember my parents, my uncles and aunts, they were musicians and they always include Latin music when they have jamming at home. Also, I remember my grandpa and his sisters, Spanish was there spoken language at home. Spanish was part of Philippine school curriculum for a long time until nitwits in the Philippine education department removed Spanish subject from school. I am told that the Spanish subject has been reinstated but a lot of Filipinos now can't speak and understand Spanish. There is still a place in the Philippines that broken or corrupted Spanish is spoken. The dialect is Chavacano.
Nitwits indeed. I'm living in a country that had two major colonial powers, the British and the Dutch. During the apartheid years, we had two official languages. English and Afrikaans (basically Dutch but easier). If you failed any of those two subjects you failed the grade. Since we became a democratic country in 1994, English remains compulsory, with Afrikaans and a further ten (I kid you not) indigenous languages being optional at school. The reason I mention this is because there's more flavour/spice in the other languages especially Spanish that you just do not get in English. Seems a bit of a shame that you guys have taken Spanish out of the school curriculum, especially seeing that it's made you guys so different to the rest of the Asian nations. I'm making it my duty to get out there someday, cause you guys just look like a great bunch to be around
Actually, her husband, is the drummer/producer (sir, Michael Shapiro who used to play professionally with Tito Fuente, and a lot of other singers, etc.) did the arrangements; collaborated with the musicians as well as Katrina, now his wife! They got married after 5 years of courtship about 7-8 months ago!
Her name is in Spanish. Us Filipinos can speak some Spanish, we borrowed some Spanish words to the Filipino language. We were colonized by Spain for 333 years. Majority of the Filipinos is Christian, mostly Roman Catholic.
I'm a huge fan of Latin music as well as R&B. I'm a huge fan of "Hurricane Katrina!" Her husband, Mike Shapiro is the drummer/producer. Together they collaborated and created this video. I believe they tied the know about 8 months ago.
Thank you for reaction video of Katrina velarde. We appreciate for reactions her videos and thank for spreading the talent of Filipinos. I hope we see more reaction videos of our Filipino talented...god bless! ❤️Kim from philippines
Filipino just naturally born to love music, and our love for music makes us wants to learn more instruments that makes the song so beautifullyyyyy made 😊😍😘
