Jamali Bai was a powerful voice among the women folk singers of Bikaner, Rajasthan. She sang traditional folk songs as well as the nirgun songs of Kabir, Bhavani Nath, Gorakhnath and others mystics, which she learnt from her aunt Shabana’s satsangs. She belonged to the Dholi community of musicians and drummers, who derive their name from the dhol (drum), who traditionally performed for their patrons to make auspicious the start of any new project. Jamali Bai was always accompanied on the harmonium by her husband, Ramzan Khan, whom she considered her primary musical friend and guru.

Jamali Bai sang this song on the 5th night of the Rajasthan Kabir Yatra - a travelling festival, which toured 7 villages with 13 singers of Bhakti, Sufi and Baul poetry in February 2012. The Yatra was organized by Lokayan in Bikaner (www.lokayan.org) in partnership with the Kabir Project, Bangalore.
