Yes, that is absolutely correct. in all subjects ...German, History, Art, Geography, Values & Norms etc.. our responsibility and Nazi time was taught...starting from 5th class till 13th class. All students had to visit a concentration camp It was a bit annoying at the end. We, students , asked for lessons about the post war time to better understand current politics. The wish was ignored. My generation X is pacifistic till today.
Yepp totaly agree with that. History Lessons stop at August 1945 (Hiroshima & Nagasaki) Never were we taught about Korea,Vietnam or how the new Germany was founded or that there was a second German State. I have an old Atlas version with GDR(DDR) aso. in it^^
Yes, I was born in the 60s. We were reminded almost daily that we were guilty and that we should be ashamed. And we were told that when we met strangers we always had to behave correctly so that they didn't think there were Nazis in Germany. It sounds crazy but what Michael Mittermaier says was what was taught in our school at that time. Of course, it may have been different in other federal states because schools are a federal state matter.
@@ChriDDel well we had some greek and roman times as well. What history lacked was post war Germany. It basically stopped with the election of Adenauer.
Guilt? Its till today. Every day someone comes along demanding reparations. Mostly Greeks or Poles, who have already received Pomerania and Silesia as compensation. Recently, there have been some from African colonies. Bismarck was Chancellor at the time. We still had an emperor, three classes of voting rights and parliament had only limited influence against the emperor. 1880 - 1918. 38 years. The British had the first colonies in 1583 and still have some today. That is not a problem. But the fact that the Herero were driven into the desert by imperial soldiers during an uprising in Africa is our fault. And the Dutch and British have acted in a similar way during uprisings. If anyone in the world doesn't get what they want from us, they remind us of the crimes and the war. Unless they want weapons from us, then the war was not a problem.
Nice video! Danke! - As far as the topic of "guilt and shame" is concerned, these videos explain very well how Germany deals with our dark past and give a good insight into how this topic was and is dealt with in schools, society, but also in private.
