Same here, never understood folk songs, although i used to watch rug rats as a kid in the 1990s

@Helēna Brodere As a Latvian myself, who has attended the song and dance festivals, who has worn the traditional dress, and who has a vainagi sitting across from me right now, I know how much time goes into these dances ;) But that doesnt stop me from thinking they can look silly, and I dont mean that in an offensive way, but a joyous way because we knew how to let loose and understood that everything didn't have to be so serious all the time.

I don't think they look silly at all, I find it rather beúatifúl ..find the Latvian culture fascinating. Such beautiful people, would love to visit and immerse myself in their lovely culture someday..,

People love enjoy life and do fun stuff, you can't always be serious. It is indeed meant to be funny, not all Latvian dances are like this though, this is just one of the few ;)
