The story of "the Fence Engine". Harald Wiklund was a man full of ideas. He was Volvo Penta's leader from 1949 to 1977. At the beginning of the 1970s he and Volvo Trucks executive manager Lars Malmros were neighbors. These two gentlemen were also good friends and often discussed over the fence as neighbors usually do. It was here that they came up with the idea of a joint, compact lightweight diesel that would be just as well suited for leisure boats as for Volvo's middleweight trucks. The result became known as "the Fence Engine".
