been watching the game for 30 years and Bonds is still BY FAR the best hitter. almost a 500% on base percentage. very few pitches in the strike zone, but capitalized when it was. He almost never swung at a ball
He should not be in Cooperstown and you probably can credit substance use for maybe half his HRs. However, steroids don’t have an impact on a player’s ability to see the ball and make solid contact.
Amazing! I've never seen Barry talking about hitting with such enthusiasm. When Ichiro played in Marlins with Bonds as hitting coach, Ichiro mentioned Bonds ``He is the first man spoke to me about the secret reason of my hitting routine.'' Ichiro showed the respect and dignity as ''Barry Bonds a genius''.
This video proves that these guys deserve to be in the hall of fame. Regardless of what they say, these two perfected the art of the swing. Small guys like Jose Altuve can hit bombs thanks to the evolution of the swing that these guys introduced. PERIOD. PED’s or not, these guys are the best hitters ever.
If you think because they use steroids they don't now what they doing my man that guy talking true the phone is one of the best hitters in baseball history. Learn how to encourage a kid how to hit the ball correctly. This is baseball 1on1.
Whenever I watch a game from a different era like the 80's, the early 90's, u see a significant difference in the game, the hitters, their approach at the plate. Significantly more balls in play, and hitting in all directions back then vs now. More action on the bases, it was a more exciting brand of ball personally.
Damn A rod charge the phone!! Lol!!A man with 762 home runs mentor was Tony Gwynn a man with nine batting titles! So combined the two and you have the best the baseball player ever!! A rod said” I have watched you for ten years and you never checked swing”
This is arod at his best New show idea arod- interview former players n get them to show their mechanics Roberto alomar Tony fernandez Rey ordoñez Barry bonds Ken griffey jr That would b dope I definitely would watch
The best of all time. We we will never see another player like Barry Bonds again. Everyone forgets his 500 plus stolen bases. 700 plus homeruns and 500 plus stolen bases. Besides Bonds no player has reached 400 HR and 400 SB.
If anybody somehow also gets to the 400-400 club, Bonds wouldn’t sweat it, as he’s also the only member of the 500-500 club. Simply the greatest of all time. And there’s no bigger Ruth fan than me.
@@TheVigorousWolf Im sure that there are thousands of bigger Ruth fans, and trying to qualify your argument by saying you like the other guy is a moronic thing to do.
@@oinkypiggy7754 It’s obviously just a figure of speech, don’t take things so literally. Btw, there was no argument to try and qualify, I was just stating that statistically bonds is in a league of his own, which just means that you’re just reaching to begin with.
Joe babe Ruth is the considered the goat better war , avg , obp , played less season then Aaron and first was a pitcher and good one too ... numbers don’t lie what is there avg season by season.. Ruth the goat 🐐 and that’s why almost every baseball expert have him number 1
Bro out of all the mlb players u brought Barry bonds ? A guy that did steroids and basically cheated through out his whole baseball career ? Ik he’s the home run king and all but he did it by cheating
There’s a big potential for a media niche you could corner with low overhead production costs with high ROI. That mid 90s - mid 2000’s nostalgia. Yourself, combined with any star from that era has the potential for high views per mile. Merch relating to that era, Jomboy style breakdowns of big moments from that era, and basically an entire media/merch apparatus relating to it. Make the fans feel involved (even though they might not be).
Alex thanks for posting these videos. It's always cool to hear the masters talk shop about their craft. A lot little details into hitting an object square-on at 100 MPH
This has to be one of the best videos on RU-vid!! Great instruction for any father trying to teach his son!!! #respect 🤝 you guys are in my hall of fame two of the beat to ever do it
Chris Millhouse Here you go folks!! Heard it from Pujols, Cabrera, now ARod and Bonds. Gotta get to the ball short, quick, compact and explosive. This is one of the best instructional videos ever out there and every kid should see and learn from this.
This is very cool... I can care less about the controversies surrounding these two! They by are two of the best to ever play the game.... They both belong in HOF but they probably will have to wait twenty years so MLB will see if anybody comes close to HR record again.... There's no denying that the Sauce rekindles your youth and that's the problem.... This was actually fantastic... Thank you....
I cannot be less interested in baseball, but I love to listen to Alex. All these principles can be applied to any and all areas of life. He teaches how to be a champ! 🏆
This was by far my favorite video from your collection here. Hitting makes a huge difference in a ball player. Thanks Mr. Rodriguez. Full of key points and great info.
great video and i think it is important to hear what barry said. He is talking about how you prepare to be a great hitter. i do think it is a difference in practice swings and game swings just because of the angle of the pitches coming at you and also how to keep yourself from getting into bad habits.
That was awesome...the passion, enthusiasm & expertise for hitting from not just Barry Bonds but you too ARod, was a delight to watch. And yes, we'd all love to see an in-person version with the two of you.
P.E.D’s have absolutely no effect on plate discipline. As a rod said, he never saw Barry check his swing and rarely swung out of the zone. There is no drug for that, that’s called pure talent.
Two of the greatest hitters ever talking about hitting. Gotta love it. And Barry Bonds is a great hitting instructor, not instructing guys to use steroids, so keep those jokes to yourself, doesn't add anything. Barry is the one who got into Christian Yelich's ear about hitting back in Miami. Look at the dude now. Great all around hitter with great power. Not just a one trick pony who really only hits homeruns.
Great video! I think the real gem is in what Barry said about a perfect practice swing v reality in game. I've yet to hear anyone verbalize that and consequently it's been THE arguement between the old and new hitting style supporters. Many short to ball haters argue that while the old time elite hitters think they are hitting down and staying short, they are really launching. And yes, video largely proves that true. What Barry said there was that elite hitters naturally launch. That it's easy to launch. So the swing thought of hitting down and the practice of hitting down, will counteract that natural game instinct to launch and therefore result in a more consistent swing rather than an uber launch swing. A swing that is on plane longer, which no one can argue results in more and better contact. I've found that slumps follow streaks because a player keeps doing more and more of what made them successful during that streak, resulting in flaws that are produced from doing too much of a good thing.
Barry had the best eye in hitting ever! He didn't even look at who he was about to face. I realize now it didn't matter. Barry knew if a ball was in his zone that he could hit didn't matter who or how fast
The one thing nobody says when teaching hitting is .... what muscles do you engage/use... when you figure that out, then you will be able to swing effectively and consistently
Wow love this conversation. it did feel a bit old school, but old school in the best possible way ! Lots of great stuff but loved Barry’s thoughts about bunting, Tony G, and of course being a complete hitter. Great stuff thanks for putting it out Alex!
Wow! Two great players in one video Awesome! 😁❤ A-rod one question even if I'm not an expert in baseball but I do like the game these swings Aren't they used to get players to home? Or are they swings necesarry to win? 😉 Love you keep on with videos like these 👌👍😘 Thanks and God bless.
Man this is crazy!! I’ve been coaching this for years!! Barry Bonds was my dude. Even changed my swing to hit like him and taught myself to bat left because of him (and to prove to my brother I could). I’ve been sharing this same type of education with my players along with other tools on my RU-vid channel MrCoachDJ. It’s crazy to hear him say this because I just emulated his swing as a kid.
Huge thanks to A-Rod and Barry for setting this up. I don't think people realize how lucky we are to have people sharing these tips. Alex, players like you seem to talk about how the "level or down swing" helps hit the higher fastball with velo. I'd love to hear the opinion of both you and Barry on how this "level swing" translates to the pitches low in the zone. Do you still swing down on a low pitch? Thanks
30 hrs 55 rbis a lot of players got their feelings hurt on that one. The analysis you get from true baseball guys is unlike any other sport. Awesome stuff.
When you and Barry re-do this video in person. It would be a dream to be there. Cmon Alex.. Make this amazing fantasy come true for this old guy. Por favor .. and Please and thank you. Always a big fan.
Love it!!! This is how I swung and my philosophy when I played… I never even played High school baseball walked on a D3 team, got scholarship to a D1 school… so in 4 years I had a combined 500 abs with. .372 BA, hit 55 doubles 10 homers 11 triples, and struck out 26 times! Was ranked 18th in the nation toughest to strike out in all of D1 baseball in the nation. I got to play 4 more years at the semi pro baseball where Batted low 400 each season.. then I quit baseball because I got a real job … 😢… I can’t stand the new technic and launch angle it is ruining the game of Baseball. Great video
Imagine the audacity of RU-vid commenters critiquing Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds on their approaches to hitting, and saying that those two guys are WRONG!? The absolute best hitter of ALL-TIME said he's a down angle swinger and explains what he means by that (1:50).
