I recently bought this and overall it's a nice upgrade over my Autel DiagLink. However, the one thing I didn't know prior to purchasing and it's quite important is that you can't monitor data pids and perform a bi-directional test both at the same time. So for example, if you want to see how the O2 sensors react while you turn on the evap purge valve...you can't do that. You can go into actuations and turn on the evap purge valve but you can't see the real-time o2 data stream.
Just ran across your video. Very nice! I was trying to figure out getting this one or the launch x431 Mostly like the bidirectional controls. And live data. Also like that you can check all data with it as well.
Yes it will do ECU coding, see the Amazon description amzn.to/3Jpuo2L I love this thing, it does so much for the price. If you want to enquire about a specific vehicle @kingbolenautoscannercenter is really good at replying.
I was looking for a easy to use, touch screen with buttons as options, actuator testing, and affordable scanner! I am definitely saving this in my wish list and buying it as soon as I can! Edit: wait… you have to pay for updates too?
It comes with 2 years free updates, so that is pretty good. The cheaper scanners (some of them) can have lifetime updates, but as you get into the better scanners they don't update forever. Remember the scanner will work without updates its just limited to the last update. We are 2023 so the scanner would be good scanning vehicle up to model year 2025. I love this scanner, used it on an Audi the other day.
They do have the feature that you can pick which PIDs you want, I may have gone over that part pretty quick. This one has a bunch of stuff, but it will vary car to car as each car will release different data. Thanks for the comment :)
I've been looking at countless videos about the launch crp919x, and this is possibly the best I've come across so far. It's definitely the best at highlighting the bidirectional capabilities! I was just wondering if you think the Bluetooth version is worth the money, or if the Bluetooth connection stability is anything to worry about? Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the vote of confidence !! I do like the Bluetooth as you can move the scanner everywhere, but some of the connections are not the greatest, and then certain functions won't work. With wired you have no problem, but with bluetooth you have to make sure you get an expensive unit. FYI - I have a bluetooth unit ($500 range) and I find I use the corded one more if that's any indication. I use the crp919x the most out of all the scanners I have tested.
@@GarageKing thanks for the quick reply! I suspected that connectivity would be a noticeable difference, but I didn't even think about a change in capabilities. Thanks again!
I would have liked to see it really check sensors or selenoids or relays and such instead of fans and idiot lights , also saw something in there with price tags, like what is it for? and how much do updates cost?
The price tags are for software you would probably never use, like Borgward, DR, JMC, Perodua (Malaysia). The only one I recognized was McLaren so if you have one of those manufacturers you have to pay, the cost was 39.72 for the vehicles so not much anyway. As for renewal fee Its usually a few hundred every few years after you use the free period which is 2-3 years. The scanner will still work, it just won't update after that point. I think for what you can get them for, and what they do, they are a bargain. If you want a dealership one, they are so expensive most manufacturers will put you on a payment plan.
Hey there, I think the 919E was just the newer version, it supports two more languages, but any differences would be very minimal if any. They both use the same operating software.
I don't see why not. This one is good, I use it for quite a bit. I haven't had a Volt to try it on, but I think it would work. The only thing is the active (bi-directional) tests vary between cars. You could always reach out to @kingbolenautoscannercenter they are really good and sell them, they are a major distributer.
Hello my friend Excellent quality and well done content. A most interesting video that I really appreciate! 😊 👍 You have as always all my support for your great and fabulous share my dear friend 👍 Take care of yourself and your loved ones 😊 Your good friend, Bekaa🌹 Like 16
Thanks for the video. Does the scanner allow you to code in a new module such as an a new ABS pump control Module to callibrate it. I installed and need to code it. Looking for a Launch device with this feature. Thanks
I'm not sure about that. I find the coding for each manufacturer, along with the bi-directional capabilities varies, so I really can't say. You could reach out to Kingbolen, they are a huge distributor and are good with getting back to questions like that. If they don't know then you cold try Launch.
I have refilled the additive fluid on my 2009 Volvo V70 1.6 diesel EcoDrive, but the car is still warning that the fluid is low. I have tried clearing the fault codes, but they keep coming back. I’m wondering how to reset the fluid counter using a LAUNCH CRP919X. Could you advise on how to proceed?
The issue with this and the launch scanners sold on amazon and not LaunchTechUSA is that they are not supported by Launch USA. You have to go thru who ever you bought it thru which could be and more than likely will be a pain. Thats why these are being sold so cheap cause you basically dont have tech support
Launch X321 CR919E might be over kill but I'm looking for a scan tool that would pull up actual mileage from BCM/Dash,Engine and ABS, not just from Dash. Would this one fit the bill? I'm driving a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. My first thought was to go with a THINKSCAN Plus S5 or S7.
The CR919E is a Bi-Directional scanner, it does a lot, and its these scanners that save a TON of time when you are diagnosing. For example, if you car is over heating you can command the cooling fan relay on and off, a very easy and quick way to start your checks. Thats just an example of the many things. The THINKSCAN S5 and S7 are just readers with a few reset functions, and to be honest the Xtool IP608 is only about 40 more and it will do way more. Its not a CRP919E, but it will do quite a bit. To answer your question about the mileage, most scanners will pull the mileage from the BCM, as that feeds the dash. If you are just looking to read things with a few resets the S7 will do, but for about 40 more, as I mentioned earlier the IP608 is just way more ahead. Then there is a gap where you pretty much have to double your money to start getting into true bi-directional scanners, and they can keep going well over $1000 depending on how advanced you want to go.
Hey There, its on sale for 372 right now on Amazon amzn.to/3vhoOvC. You can also buy from Kingbolen and I had a code (GarageKing) that gave $60 off, they have good prices as well.
Hey There, I'm not sure as what it can do varies between vehicles. I would need a Mercedes to see if can. (the tests pop up once you are connected to the vehicle so its impossible to check without the vehicle) You could reach out to Kingbolen Auto Scanner Center, they are a big supplier of launch and they may know. They have a RU-vid channel and you can tag them @kingbolen_official Thanks
I have not had any issues with it all at. I'm in Canada and I would think the vehicles here are the same as the US. I checked the amazon link and it says compatible with Chrysler/Jeep.
I don't believe so, its just the OBD2. I think to use the special connectors you have to step up a bit. Then you can start getting into scanners that even have OBD1 connectors.
Hey There, that I'm not sure. It might. I do find it varies between vehicles where for some you get a certain function and some you don't. I guess it depends if you vehicle offers it.
The power balance function for Fords is excellent. It’s very similar to the factory Ford scan tool. The graphing makes it easy to find intermittent misfires when the check engine light won’t set. I’m not sure if it does the same for other makes?
Hey Thanks for the comment, I haven't tried it on a Ford yet so thanks for sharing that. I have used it on mainly Japanese cars and didn't need the power balance feature so I'm not sure how well it works on the Japanese. When you need it, it is an excellent often overlooked feature :)
If you have a code, to the left is a "code search" button and you press that and the browser will open up, its based on Windows so very good. I should have been more clear on that part and showed it. I'm not sure if you can get directly to browser, I think its only when you have a code, the code will be described and then you can research through the browser.
@@GarageKing hey brother, I really appreciate your response. I noticed you're great at responding - that's very cool. I bought this because a guy I work with has the Elite Mini and has the same Google code search function. The car I've been playing with didn't have any codes so it never gave me a search option. Thanks for clarifying that for me. My buddy's unit boots to a desktop-like screen and has the Google app there as well as the code search within the program - any way to emulate that?
@@thcguitarsrepairsandrestor8672 Appreciate the positive words. Many people reach out for various things, and I do enjoy the conversations I have with people. As for getting a different screen on boot up, I don't think thats possible. If you think of it, really all these higher end scanners are very similar, and its the preloaded software that sets them apart (there are other small things) so I think its locked the way it is. You are forced to buy a higher model if you want the different screen. But to be honest this one is great. Especially for the price, it does a lot. Happy New Year to you :)
You say you use it on your Japanese cars…do you have any Subarus? Specifically I need it to close the vent valve solenoid on the evap system so I can do a smoke test on a 2010 Forester…do you know if it would do that?
I haven't tried it on a Subaru, but I think it would work as the evap test is a pretty universal test. Things like static compression tests really vary depending on the vehicle.
As far as I know yes. I had a Launch CRP429 that expired after its 2 years and it still worked, it just would not update so it slowly went obsolete. So to answer your question, as far as I know yes.
Do you have to be connected to the internet to use it? Does it list what the common causes are that triggered a code like other scan tools do to help you find the solution? Can it monitor or reset tpms?
You don't have to be connected to the internet to use it, but you must connect to update it if you wish. It has a browser that automatically searches for the codes to let you know what the common problems are. Also it describes the code, not just a reading. Not sure what you mean about monitoring, but it can reset. Please not that all vehicles are not the same and some functions do vary between vehicle.
Did you buy it on Amazon? I’m concerned about warranty issues & receiving support on it cuz Launch USA won’t support it if it wasn’t bought through one of their authorized sellers.
Yep I did. The thing is there is a launch store on Amazon, but that aside you have to look at the cost of the software. Its like 500 to renew, so really what are the chances of it breaking after a few years?? It still works when the software expires, it just slowly becomes obsolete, so I'll run it for a few years and then get another. I have owned a lot of scanners and never had one break on me.
Good info & I really appreciate that! I heard you say in another comment that you own other scan tools but you keep going back to the Launch cause it’s your favorite. I’ve been doing tons of research & it seems to me Launch & Autel are the best for the money. Do you own an Autel or do you have an opinion about Autel?
@@8683roy Hey There, Autel is good as well. They are a good value. I also find Xtool very easy to use. To be honest one of my favs, if not my favorite is the GM Tech 1 Scanner. I have three of those. Too bad they only go up to the early 2000's. They are great for 80's and 90's cars. They use cartridges and are super fast and bi-directional. They can reprogram computers, odometer. If you think about it for a scanner that old they are amazing. Not for fixing new cars, but anyway sorry to go offside, how can you tell I like working on cars. To answer your questions Autel is good.
So Im new to these scanning tools. When you have a check engine light and you have a scanner hooked up to read what codes its throwing where do you go to find out what that code is. Does the scan tool actually tell you what the code is. If not then do you have to google the code. Just wandering where you get this info at
Hey there, the scanner will tell you what the code number, and what the code means. The scanner will also open its own browser and search for the code problems on the internet. I did another review of the X431 Pro Elite and its a step up from this one, but its a few hundred more.
That is the one thing I wish it had, but then it would be a much more expensive tool....... Just an OTC scope without any scan functions is 1500 bucks amzn.to/40a7L8O
I don't have the Bluetooth one but why does it keep on saying connecting to Bluetooth how do you reset the TPMS on your car it just says connecting to BT but mine is not a Bluetooth
Hey there, its because the scanner needs the TPMS tool, and that tool is bluetooth, you have to buy it separately. The Launch bluetooth TPMS tool it not cheap. Same thing with the battery tester, you need the BST360, and that is bluetooth as well. For TPMS its just cheaper to get a TPMS specific tool that works with your car. See here amzn.to/3XU9txj you can see a lot of people bought that TPMS tool. Just search up the one that is right for your car.
I bought it off amazon and paid 465, its currently on sale for 372, I actually can't believe its that cheap amzn.to/3vNDinc There is a Launch store on Amazon.
"Will this LAUNCH X431 CRP919E do a active test to demand max fuel pressure on the cp3 injection pump to test?for a 2005 gmc sierra 2500hd with a 6.6L duramax?if not do you know what bidirectional scanner will? thank you
Good question and I'm not sure, the problem is I can't even tell you because I would need your vehicle to plug in to check. Once you connect to the vehicle you can get into the menus and the menus change depending which vehicle. You could always check with Kingbolen, they are a major seller and distributer and are pretty good with answering, they also have a RU-vid channel @kingbolen_official
Yes, that's the bi-directional features. So you can do specific activations tests like turn the radiator fans on and off, test the door locks, gauges, wipers, horn etc.
Hey There, I'm not sure. You could reach out to www.kingbolentool.com They sell a lot on Amazon and are quite knowledgeable. The scanner may do it, but it may not do all cars.
You can graph many things, but I find they are limited to what information the ECM supplies so on actuation tests it varies between vehicles. If your vehicle is a newer one most likely I would say it can, but the only for sure way to know is to try it.
Hola, asegúrese de completar todas las actualizaciones. muchas veces cuando compras la herramienta no esta actualizada. Tienes que ir a wifi y actualizar. Si eso no funciona, puede comunicarse con Launch
Go to kingbolentool.com/?ref=garageking they are a distributor of launch, they may ship worldwide. If you use the code Garageking you will get $60 off. You never know.
I like this one the best (Launch), I find the menu is good and easy to navigate, but that could because I'm just use to the menu??? The K7 has a good menu as well, but it takes a bit more for some functions (I was fixing an Audi the other day and it still did the job, but too a few more steps) and its fairly quick. I do like the bluetooth on the K7. I haven't tried the Mucar V07, but it looks just like the K7. In terms of actual functions I think they are all pretty close. I think it comes down to which one your are more familiar with. If you haven't used any of them, then I think you would be happy with anyone. If you have used a Launch before then definitely go with the 919.
I'm going to try the K7. In the end the decision comes down to cost- if the specs are comparable. Mucar sends from China, so there will be taxes and handling fees. Launch is slightly more expensive, so it looks like the K7 is the best deal right now (which may change over time of course).@@GarageKing
@@demil3618 Hey there, you can't go wrong with the K7. I used it today on a 2012 Traverse, and a 2015 MB diesel and it worked great. Right now we are in 2023 so in 2025 it would stop updating so if you had a 2026 car or newer it may not work depending on what you are scanning. Have you tried doing an adaptive relearn for a Ford Focus transmission with this Launch tool? I was unable to . It failed at the very first step. I am not a fan of this Launc model.
I haven't worked on Fords with it, I use mine mainly on Japanese and German vehicle, and it performs well on those. Are you fully updated? Perhaps for the the transmission relearn you need a higher model.
Yes, I am fully updated. The 919E is my second Lauch product, purchased based on a good first experience with Launch. However, I have now twice tried to do the adaptive relearn on 2 different Ford Focus's, unsuccessfully. Forscan worked perfectly on both occassions. I don't have any other issues with the Launch 919E but the product should be able to do what it has been touted to be able to do. Less and less impressed by the day.
@@francoisoosthuizen6663 Sorry to hear that, and I feel your frustration. For me its been great, but I haven't had to do the transmission relearn on Ford, so I guess I'm lucky there.

Good question, and to be honest I'm not sure. I find that what it can do varies between vehicles so even if it can do that on one vehicle it may not be able to do it on another.
Hey There, I don't believe it can do that. For that you would need an actual oscilloscope with test leads. Most mechanic use a secondary oscilloscope as scanners with them built in are quite expensive, Autel sells one but I think its around $4000USD. The CRP919e will give you some live data on the sensors, but I don't believe it will be in the oscilloscope pattern.
It should as I found it does A LOT !! But I find its manufacturer specific so you never know. I would think you would be fine for the ABS. I know Kingbolen sells them and at one time I had a coupon code for 60 off, not sure if it still works. The code is Garageking
Hi There, I'm not familiar with crp349 as you don't see it much in North America so I'm not too sure. I know there was a 919x and then it was updated to the newest 919e. I think the 919e may be a higher model than the 349.
I have a question, why do some 919e/x models come with smaller box, yours is way bigger and holds the scanner more nicely, while some boxes have only 2 straps to hold the scanner in place and that is it?
I surely hope so i ordered mine yesterday, should come in a week, there were no photos of inside of the box, i got the newest 2023 model, i hope i get the same box as yours.

It needs wifi to update, then you can take it out and use it where ever. Once your free subscription expires you can still use it, it just won't update.
@@FairladyS130 When you use it for the first time you must go on wifi to update it. You can click on wifi, and then enter the password for the wifi. The password is whatever the person who owns the wifi sets it at. So if you are at your friends, click on his wifi and ask him for the password. If you are at a Starbucks, Mcdonald's, open wifi etc. I don't think it will work because even though you don't need a password, you must accept the terms and conditions and the launch has no way to do that. So it must be done on a wifi network where you know the password, so at a home is best. Hope this helps.
Yes, kind of.... You still need to have one key working, it will NOT DO ALL KEY LOST functions meaning you can't reprogram a can with no keys. This prevents theft. Also its only ONLY available for Asian vehicles with early IMMO systems. NOT intended for AUDI, Benz, BMW, or VW which have advanced IMMO systems. Hope this helps.

Actually this scanner will probably still work if you have a one key, what it can't do is ALL KEYS LOST so it should just program the replacement key to the existing one, then do another key. I'm not 100% sure but I think it would probably work. I've never reprogrammed a GM so I'm not sure if it needs a signal from the other key when its doing its thing, if it doesn't then it will work. Hey there, the model above this one might be the one with topography mapping, which is a really cool feature (but I don't know how much you would actually use it) I guess I would have to get it to see. I know the 919 does a lot, but if you have been around for a while then you pretty much know the more you spend the more you get (generally) but I hear what you are saying. Is it worth it, and are those features I will use. The 919 can add keys, but it varies on the car manufacturer.
@@GarageKing I read it works with cars that have a weak security, guess to do it all I'm probably gonna need the extra add on key programmer. That is surprising as P0430 is a common code for catalytic convertor efficiency. Did you fix the problem? if the problem is a hard fault you can clear it, but the code will return right away.
@GarageKing I believe that the problem is the scanner, because even though it scan the right vehicle VIN. When I try to clear it, it says wrong vehicle or subfunction not supported or invalid.
I find that very odd as clearing a code is a basic function. It does not require bi-directional action so I would power it down and up and try again. You could also go into OBDII instead of doing the health report and full scan. both ways will get you there. I just find it odd. @@ericflores5748
Yes it is suppose to, but I would check with the Launch specifications as it is manufacturer specific. Also it does not have all keys lost function. I believe you have to have one key working, and then it will program another.
