Winga and Dave show us how to launch from the sand with no fuss and takes a look at the new Savage A-Series trailer designed perfectly to do it. We bought and paid for this trailer with actual cash, not sponsored, just a thank you to Savage Trailers.

2different metals is galvanic corrosion. Electrolysis happens when current present.

Fully sic mate cant wait for a walk around vid of the boat ! Wouldnt mind a trailer like that up north where the tides are big and boat ramps are rare Thanks heaps !

Nice construct and the design for beach launching is nice and simple! I may have to do this with my trailer so we can hit Flinders...

I like ye boat, like ye trailer. That front wheel is ingenious! Mine is just like it, but stationary. Oh me, now I've got some modifying to do on my aluminum trailer! Mine looks very much like that but no rollers. I have an 18.5' SeaRay fiberglass boat, 125 HP Mercury. I'll save this video page as a reference on some things for mine! I'm in USA, and only use in fresh water so far. My trailer is also bolted, but some of the bolts are rusting just a bit. I change them all to stainless and use that stuff between bolts and aluminum. Nice rig you have there!!

Nice boat guys! Looks real easy but I know Flinders well and more often than not, even on a calm day, it's not uncommon for 4 foot breakers to hit that beach. It won't be that easy to launch or retrieve. I nearly lost my boat there and have seen many mishaps over 30 years.

Nice trailer. I tried a beach launch this morning, but no go. My trailer was completely submerged and my tailpipe was under water, but the boat wasn't floating. I've had the boat 20 plus years with no problem launching at a regular ramp. Maybe I can lower the bunkers which are 2 1/2 inches above the fender guards. Any other tips?

The wheel is a good idea, but instead of a square tube, how about a round tube with a pin that you just pull out and it swivels itself into position without having to undo and redo that bolt twice to put it down and then back up again? You’d probably find it a lot quicker to back the trailer to a little bit out of the water and then hook the boat to winch n just winch it across the sand and then up onto the trailer. Bit of effort with a hand winch but swap the hand winch for an electric would be heaps easier. Lovely boat though 👍🏻

Ahh the Duralack myth lives on it seems. To have electrolysis (& galvanic corrosion) electrons must flow in an electrolyte. Electrons flowing in an electrolyte is the very definition of a wet cell battery. Wet cell battery definition is 2 dissimilar metals separated by an inert spacer, immersed in an electrolyte. The least noble metal (the one with the lowest valence) gives up its electrons to the more noble metal. On your trailer, you have aluminium, stainless steel bolts and galvanised steel, black steel axle & springs & wheel studs & nuts. So 4 dissimilar metals (the zinc in the galvanising being the lowest valence metal in this case, the first one to give up its electrons to the other metals. So as far as your trailer becoming a wet cell battery - you have all the elements necessary;- 1. dissimilar metals. (aluminium, steel, stainless & zinc - take your pick of any two). 2. Inert spacer (Duralack). 3 Electrolyte (Seawater) Congratulations, you created a wet cell battery the moment you back it into the ocean. Electrons will flow and the least noble metal (zinc) will get eaten away. Just like the sacrificial anodes on your Mercury outboard (often called “zincs” but in the case of Mercury outboards a brand specific alloy called “mercatel”, designed to be even less noble than zinc). So in order for any sacrificial anode to work, ie be the least noble metal in the circuit, the metals all have to be “equipotentially bonded”. Placing Duralack between the surfaces as an inert spacer just creates the wet cell battery that provides the current flow to cause corrosion. If you had zinc anodes on your trailer & no Duralack - then the bolts would equipotentially bond all the dissimilar metals and the zinc anodes on your trailer could work & get eaten away to prevent the galvanising being the least noble metal and becoming the sacrificial anode by default. Duralack is the biggest con ever invented. Maybe it has insulation properties that are handy in the aviation sector but has no business in marine applications at all. My 2c You have a lovely boat & trailer & motor, your only weak link in the whole package is the Duralack.

Nice trailer looks incredible. Particularly like the fact you can retrieve your boat without your car coming into contact with water. Would it be possible to launch your trailer loaded with the boat using man power or too heavy?
@YouFishTV
@YouFishTV 5 лет назад
Certainly possible. 1 person can push the boat and trailer pretty easily.
@lmaox10

Although it looked like truck was in the water when launching, A drawbar extension would be good too, hinged close to coupling and can swing back against trailer when not in use. so truck doesn't get wet when launching.

Doesn't the engine cut out mean that water will come into the stern alot easier, I was thinking of buying a 4.88 m but it had a cutout like that one and I'm not sure about it now.
@YouFishTV
@YouFishTV 5 лет назад
It’s got an engine well on the other side of the transom with drain holes so would need a pretty big wave to get over than and into the boat. As long as you don’t reverse hard into a sea it’s no problem.
