I'm surprised how fast aircraft carriers can go! Of course it's part the mission. Acts as virtual runway but the fact that such a huge ship can outrun many smaller ships is truly impressive.

Not sure how fast a Nimitz carrier can go, but I will absolutely guarantee you that if it can't outrun it's escorts on top speed, it will keep it's flank speed up for day after day, week after week long after it's conventional powered escorts are floating in the ocean out of fuel. The last carrier escort we had that could keep up with a Nimitz class carrier was the USS South Carolina CGN-37.

@@dundonrl A Nimitz can do over 30 knots. 55 km/hr. Some super yatchs top out at 23 knots. Carriers are fast.

@amorosogombe9650 I know they can do at least 30 knots because the ship I was on (USS Halsey DDG-97) was doing 30 knots as plane guard for USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72 in the GOO in 2010. How much faster that I don't know!

If f35 carries external loads it’s not stealth anymore. F18 hornets are still the big boys carrying the big loads of missiles & bombs.

The 3 variants were designed for 3 different uses by the Air Force, Navy, and Marines. One variant is used by Marine pilots on LHA and LHD without the need for a tail hook and need for VSTOL operations.

15K payload on F-35B vs 18K on F-35A and C variants. F-35B carries 13,500 lbs fuel and F-35C carries 19,750 lbs fuel making the range much longer on the C variant and carrying more munitions to use at that longer range.

One detail the video never covered is the cost of one F-35, which is $75 million without the engine. With the plane and engine, it's $155 million. How many students could get their university and college degrees with that? The total problem is over $1 trillion. What's more important? A pilot looking for an aircraft carrier somewhere, or students building futures for themselves and their families?
