My recent Aerial Silk piece from "One World, One Show",a benefit performance for YMCA youth programs. Most ambitious routine yet at 7 min. I must say I am very proud! Music: "Tango" by Chris Murphy chrismurphymusi...
Laura, your story has inspired me so much. I want to learn aerial silks so badly that it hurts! I keep being told that I can't do it because I do not have the ideal body type and there are no places to learn the art around where I live. I hope to teach myself (keeping safety in mind of course). I have also been told this is impossible to do...but I just can't help feeling the deep-set and burning desire to do it! Your videos make me smile and often cry because I can see the pure joy on your face when you perform...more than anything I want to feel that for myself. Your performances are my favorite to watch and I wish there were more videos!
+Mageira Alexstrasza Just went to my first class, and I can tell you its really, really hard. I have always been in good physical condition, still, this is the hardest thing I have ever done. So my respects to all aerial ladies. I bow to them!
+Mageira Alexstrasza Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad to hear that I inspire you! I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I would NOT recommend trying to learn aerial silks on your own. Without the proper equipment, a safe place to rig and a knowledgeable instructor you run the risk of seriously injuring yourself. Even a fall from a very low height can lead to sprains and broken bones (I have witnessed this myself). Please be safe! I encourage you to find a creative outlet such as dancing that gives you the same sense of freedom and passion.
So happy to hear that I inspire you. 13 is a great age to start aerial training. Make sure you work with a knowledgeable, qualified instructor as aerial arts are very dangerous. And if you can, take dance classes as well, which will help with your grace and flexibility.
I've been doing aerial silks for around 10 months now and my first performance is coming up! I'm watching your videos for inspiration. Any tips for a first performance?
Good for you! Yes, I do have some advice: don't try to fit in every trick you know! Quite often I find myself trying to cram in too many movements in my choreography. Simplicity can be beautiful when executed clean, controlled and precise. Pick some of your best/favorite skills and give your self plenty of time to transition between them. Sorry I saw this so late......hope your performance went well if it's already past.
Laura, wonderful exquiste performance, love how you rest your head against the silk, and the drop you make, scares me everytime...very nice performance as always :-) :-)
You are so good!! I have been an aerialist for about 5 months now!! Thank you so much for sharing with us your art!! Sorry if my English is bad I'm Mexican
I had seen this video when I started doing acrobatics and I thought ir was Magic. Now, after a few years of training, I think it's poetry. The Magic is in what you transmit!
Your performances are so mesmerizing to watch! I'm a pole dancer currently but I'm looking to get into aerial silks as well, and you've definitely become an inspiration to me! Were you always that flexible or was it something you had to work on?
I am just starting my silks journey, and I must saw you have the most stunning video I have seen. If only I was about 15 years younger. Stunning, so strong, graceful, and such an inspiration.
+Jennifer Phan Thank you! This is a re-post of an older video which I edit to take out some narration in the beginning. Still on of my favorite routines to perform. Hoping to do this live with the violinist/composer of this song someday.
I have been taking classes for over a year now and I always turn to watch your performances for inspiration and motivation that anything is possible:) I have wonderful instructors (and myself) who would love to meet you some day!
Laura Dasi Hello! I'm only 14 but the studio is Central Oregon Aerial Arts located in Bend, Oregon. Check out their Facebook page for more info, you are so inspiring!
