Laura Dern and Kyle MacLachlan honor David Lynch at the Governors Awards on Sunday, October 27, 2019, in Hollywood. #HonoraryOscars #LauraDern #GovernorsAwards #KyleMacLachlan
@@ruly8153 i hate the word cringe..like, it was real and sweet, fiction made us believe that there are moments perfectly executed and how they are made ... That's how in real life moments are perfectly executed, being imperfect
yes and in the end Laura Dern finally won an Oscar the year a cow was the focus of Joaquin Phoenix's best actor speech at the Oscars...coincidence? I think not!!
Absolutely. I'm a fairly recent David Lynch fan. I discovered him in 2015. I was lucky enough to watch Twin Peaks for my very 1st David Lynch film/series. After I finished Twin Peaks: Seasons 1, 2 & Fire Walk With Me, I immediatly looked up the rest of Lynch's filmography, and watched all of his movies over the course of the week. I'm actually kind of glad I didn't discover him until 2015, because at least it was only a 2 year wait until Twin Peaks: The Return came out.
Yes! I was 13,when in my country was for the 1st. time (september 1993) presented Twin Peaks. Since then,I´m trapped in Lynch´s art and psychedelic WEB! 4 years later I was in art cinema and watching ERASERHEAD on big screen. Undescribable!
I was like 4 years old when I watched Twin Peaks for the first time (in the 80s) and I remember how mesmerizing Badalamenti's soundtrack was, but the episodes were really dark for a kid of that age. I rediscovered Lynch with 20 something years old and watched his best movies. Since then, I am in love with his style.
I think every person that has met David and isn't named Anthony Hopkins or Michael J. Anderson love him. I was reading his book and was surprised to see how kindly even his ex-wives speak of him. Three ex-wives and you're still on good terms with all them? A guy like that has to not just be a class act, but some sort of beacon of positive vibes.
Excuse me? Ron Howard is amazing, sure David Lynch is a one in a million creative mind who can’t ever be replaced or compared to. And Lynch’s ability to evoke emotion through every method of cinema is unheard of. BUT Ron Howard’s last name Is Howard so he’s obviously a genius and better in every way.
Evan Devries I agree. I’ll never see Laura as anyone else but Diane from Twin Peaks or Sandy from Blue Velvet. Same with Kyle, he’ll always be Agent Dale Cooper to me.
@@StringSun Agreed. Couldn't stand her bitchy, feminist character on The Last Jedi. But that wasn't her fault. That was all Rian Johnson & Kathleen Kennedy. I love her as an actress. She did an amazing job on Twin Peaks, Inland Empire, Blue Velvet & Wild At Heart.
Honestly, Laura and Kyle could have broken down sobbing during this tribute and I would have completely understood. This must've been so very emotional and sentimental and stirring for them to do. They really maintained composure, and focused on the deep abiding love they have for this great man. Nobody paints cinematic imagery and sounds like David Lynch has done during his career in film and TV. He revels in creating a place where there's such intense beauty, such stark evil and danger, such whimsical comedy, and such tantalizing mystery. I am proud and grateful to live in a world that is lucky enough to have the gift of his films and television programs.
My hands down, all down favorite writer/director of all time. Kubrick, Tarantino, Anderson, Aronofsky, Polanski, Bergman, Bertolucci, Scorsese, Leone, Hitchcock and Park Chan-wook: All brilliant. All masters. But they’re art is not my favorite. That hat is worn by Mr. Lynch and only Mr. Lynch. For all time, he’s my favorite. When I share this with someone for the first time, I immediately know if we’re compatible or not. If they say “OMG I hate his films. They make no sense”, or “He’s amazing, I love his work” or “Who’s that?”, I automatically know if we’re to be close friends or not 🤣 it’s the “Lynchian Test” 😂 Because no one else makes the kind of art that David Lynch makes. It’s so distinct, so original, so mind warping, so authentically Lynch, not only does it tell me a lot about a person finding out if they like his films or not, I can compare his singularity to The Beatles even. When you hear The Beatles, there’s no doubt that it’s THE BEATLES. There are imitators, but their distinct sound and signature cannot be duplicated. They are the one and only one that’s THE ONE. Much like The Beatles, DAVID LYNCH IS IN ANOTHER LEAGUE ALL HIS OWN. The fact that he did not win any Emmy’s for Twin Peaks or Twin Peaks:The Return, well that’s just utter blasphemy. The fact that he’s never won a competitive Oscar is also complete and utter blasphemy, and goes to show that it’s very hard for anyone making truly original art to win over “The Academies”. They’ve ignored brilliance and originality many times over and are not the real authority on deciding what’s “worthy”. History and the test of time are. And as time goes on, I believe David’s works will come to be regarded more and more as genius, as genre bending impossible to classify masterpieces, as art that changed the rules of what was possible, and as the work of a very brilliant mind light years ahead of most people’s. They will be hailing him long after we’re all dead and gone, including him. History has showed us time and again, that most genius is not recognized in it’s own time. David Lynch is no exception. But when I ponder the fact that his films and projects are so cerebral and existential, so inventive and imaginative, so brilliant and intelligent in how they require the viewer to actually think, so boundary pushing and unique, it’s no wonder his mastery is sometimes not recognized, understood, or appreciated. His brilliance is not often understood by the mainstream. Not to sound elitist, but I truly believe he’s a high level thinker with a brilliant mind...who in turn makes art most often understood by high level thinkers and brilliant minds. And for those that love him, those who are blown away when watching a Lynch project, those of us who “get it”, well aren’t we the lucky ones? 👍 LONG LIVE THE MASTER.
David will be always in our minds and in our hearts! He's not only two or three things, like Kyle and Laura made clear, he is a visionary. He's that kind of light that shines immensely bright to everyone that gets to know him and his work. Congrats, our hero!!
I think he's done with the hollywood entertainment system after The Return. I don't blame him. Basically unless a studio wants to give him a blank check for $20 million and final cut, he'd probably say no. Now there are health concerns.
Lynch deserves this award 100 times over. Seeing Mulholland Dr for the first time at 16 years old literally changed my life forever. Shame Jack Nance couldn’t be there to present as well. RIP.
Congratulations, David, on an honor well earned. I met David several times through the years and was always astonished by his gentle and calming personality even when recalling a story of when he got lost in a morgue in Philadelphia and discovering the smiling bags of death. I was at his art opening at the Castelli Gallery in NYC and I was, once again, amazed at his creativity. David is America’s gift to the world and he is truly a gift to the arts. Bravo, David, on receiving an award that was a long time coming and so well deserved.
No better person to hand the oscar to david than kyle maclachlan and also Jack nance and harry dean stanton would have been so proud of him, rest in peace
Kyle has aged so well here. And I love how unabashedly honest and spontaneous this speech is. Just speaking from the heart. David is an amazing man and it's great how positive everyone's experiences with him are.
This entire video of David Lynch's favourite's actors congratulating him, is from a David Lynch film. We are all in a David Lynch film. Run, someone said: fire? Yeah, you are feeling ticklish too, aren't you? No worry, it's a lost highway to somewhere. Are you? You are still in a David Lynch film.
I'm justing picturing David saying Kyle and Laura beforehand something like "You go there and make a long speech for me, I stay on my little chair, taste a nice glass of fine Bordeaux and finally get up there to get my Oscar and go home thinking about polyester resin"
David Lynch is simply the best director of our time. I hope he continues to direct films for us to enjoy because no one has as much original style as him. Absolute genius, even if he'd hate being called that.
i mean he isn't lying, but he is lynch, and im sure that if he wants to make another film nobody will say no. still, if he does another one and wants full creative control I'll say a24 is the way to go. i just hope he doesn't expect to have big budget
I watched Dune ever since I was 5 years old. Later, I became a drug addled madman and discovered David Lynch through a weirdo friend of mine. Imagine the surprise when I learned that Lynch made Dune. I saw Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Inland Empire before I learned that fact. It all made sense when I learned. David was going into my head since I was a child. Father! The sleeper has awakened!
Jack P I suppose you mean weed and maybe some psychedelics. But coke is definitely one of the most popular ones among people in the industry. (Doesn't make it any better tho)
When I was around 11, watching "Eraserhead", it was the beginning of an amazing journey! A couple of years later I've watched the first episode of Twin Peaks with my mom. When it finished the second season, I could say since then the way I see any series or movies has never been the same. I always want more, deeper, not so obvious, that allows me to travel anywhere, with no right or wrong, ..., Thank God "Twin Peaks - The return' happened, 25 years later. Oh, my! No one else could make me happier than David's productions. It was so special each episode on the first day of its release. After a long shift, I'd come back home, turn on the TV, grab a good mug of coffee, watch Badalamenti's tune for the opening while I was seeing that waterfall, the water running, that peaceful and unique place, and tears of happiness. "Am I dreaming? 25 years later. Is it really Twin Peaks back?" It's unexplainable. Sorry for the mistakes in the sentences. I wrote with my heart. Thanks, David.
Just tearing up from the genuine respect and love they have and show so freely to David. Authenticity rules! And yes everyone remembers the first time they saw a David Lynch film!
Every time I see David Lynch in a screen I feel this enormous need to hug him and tell him all the beautiful words I know. I just love you very much! Thank you, dear David for everything you did in this world!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
He deserved Best Director in Mulholland Drive and Naomi Watts deserved Best Actress. That non-dialogue scene alone in the last 30 minutes of the film ended any other performances.
